kilroy69 1,251 Posted June 23, 2024 Anyone following this shittshow? Never heard of him before the trial. I picked up on the trial when his lawyer was sentenced to 10 weekends in jail for contempt(at which time the attorney, dragging his giant set of balls to the podium to address the court, asked if he could do his time in the same cell as his client) . The contempt charge came from the defense lawyer calling the judge out for holding a closed door meeting with just him, the prosecution and a witness that they leaned on to testify. The GA supreme court stayed the contempt charge and the judge refused to recuse himself. This seems pretty crazy to me. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/young-thug-ysl-rico-trial-judge-lawyers-1235043560/
EternalShinyAndChrome 4,107 Posted June 23, 2024 yeah, I've been kind of watching it too. I don't know how this judge stays on the case and how any guilty verdict does NOT get thrown out by the GA Supreme Court.

It seems like there would be a mechanism in place to stop a trial when a judge is clearly out of line.

Maybe they have to let the entire case play out before they have to intervene, but I don't know how it's possible with a CLEAR violation of a defendant's rights like that. I mean, that's a whole level of corruption on the Judge/DA's part that you would think they would HAVE to intervene immediately, no?

Anything less than an acquittal is going to be immediately appealed and overturned. It should be a mistrial and the judge should be censured.

I feel like this is a huge violation that should probably cost him his job. I mean, the judge KNOWINGLY violated the defendant's Civil Rights. And we don't even know what went on yet behind those closed doors, do we? just that there was a meeting w/out the defendant's attorney present?

Which is bullshitt, does not contain all the information they talked about and did not allow his lawyers to be present. At this point we have to take a court at their word this is what was said when they clearly have made it a point to go outside of the norms of law and cast doubt on the courts ability to be impartial

kilroy69 1,251 Posted July 2, 2024 They paused the trial so another judge can rule if the current judge should be forced to recuse himself or force a mistrial.
