The Mets had a 120 losses in 1960 in only 160 games to set the modern era record.   The 2003 Tigers came close with 119 losses.  Currently, the Sox are on a 18 game losing streak (and had a 14 game losing streak earlier in the season) to bring their record to 27-85. They are on pace to finish 39-121.

Also, they have a chance at breaking the 1961 Phillies who once lost 23 straight, the American League record is 21 by the 1988 Baltimore Orioles.

What say ya?

While yes they do suck, I’m still pulling for them. A kid that plays for them is my old coach’s son, Brooks Baldwin

That's neat, I don't think I've ever been 1 degree of separation from a pro-athlete.

Update:  Tied the American League record for most consecutive losses.  Against the A's tonight they have a chance to be #1 in futility for the A.L.

Thankfully, the 2003 Tigers got hot a bit at the end of the year (or more correctly "just lukewarm enough") to both finish respectable and prevent them from catching/breaking the Mets record. Now, with the 2024 White Sox breaking their AL record, we can all quietly forget about that year and instead talk about those 63 Mets and this Chicago team the next time things get this dismal again for some sorry franchise.

There's no forgetting Matt Millen's 0-16 Lions. The math surrounding the number zero makes it impossible, but at least with a 17 game season, someone will eventually come along to bail them out of last place. They didn't deserve 0-16. They kept the final score within a TD more than half the time and as I remember it, had actually outplayed Chicago that year but lost anyway.
