It moves the 70th week of Daniel out to the future, as opposed to the 70th week following the 69th week, like Monday following Sunday (non-dispensational). It originated from a Jesuit commentary (Ribera) at the end of the 16th century to take the moniker of antichrist off the pope (the one at that time). Most of modern understanding comes from the notes in the Scofield reference bible. Again, from the notes, not the bible part of it. The "Left Behind" series adheres to this notion.
