I'm heading down for a work function next month. Flying in on Friday and will have a few hours to kill before the evening festivities. I'll also have pretty much all day Saturday to do whatever before the dinner that night.

Any suggestions that won't get me fired? We'll be in the Gas Lamp District.

I was staying at the Hard Rock. In the gas lamp about a month ago.  If it's a Padres game night. It will be packed. They shut down the street.   If not.  You still can't go wrong just wandering and seeing what you stumble into.  The trolley system is super cheap and easy to navigate if you wanna go to Old Town, Seaside, La Jolla, Little Italy (Tiajuana maybe not if you're avoiding trouble) Coronado you would have to Uber.

Thanks! I haven't been to Diego in forever. I won't have a ton of free time but I'll have enough that I won't want to just hang out in the hotel.

Just find a few things you really wanna see.  The trolley system is like $2 each way wherever you wanna go. And super easy to use. There is a station right at the end of the gas lamp. Between the hard rock hotel and the convention center.

Gas Lamp tends to be overpriced food and a lot of bars and nightlife.   I would Uber out to Shelter Island and eat at a place called Bali Hai.  Excellent food, best views of the city, and strong drinks.  Probably a 10-15 minute ride.  If you walk to walk somewhere, go to Little Italy or Seaport Village.  Better eating options there, IMHO.  There are also some decent brewries in the area.  Going on the Midway is worth it if you love old fighter planes.   A short hike from Seaport Village and a nice walk along the shoreline.

Yeah. If he wants to kill some time during the day.  Wander Gas Lamp.  Take the Trolley to Little Italy or Seaport.   I dont think he needs hard plans.  He will find something to stumble into.

One of my real close friends lives in San Diego. His wife is a former pro beach volleyball player and they took me to this one placed called Werewolf that I ended up loving. I suggest that place

Not sure if it still exists… used to be decent:

kansas city bbq downtown. It is where they filmed the piano scene in top gun.

Ocean Beach has a really laid back surfer/stoner beach vibe to it with some nice bars and restaurants and then you can wonder down the road and watch the sunset at sunset cliffs, some of the best shoreline in Sothern California.   Probably does not fit your schedule, but for people there longer it is a scene worth checking out.

Yeah, unfortunately that wouldn't fit in the schedule. I'll be at the hotel Friday & Saturday evening. Fly out early Sunday morning. I'll have a few hours Friday afternoon and all day Saturday to check out the sights.

There will be a group of us. I'm sure we'll find something to do. Thanks for all the tips fellas!

Landed about 1:30 yesterday. Sat on the tarmac until 3:30 waiting for a gate to open.

Staying at the Omni. Had a team dinner at the Union Kitchen & Tap. The ribeye was fantastic! Did a bar crawl around  the Gaslamp until midnight. Woke up at 4:30 this morning, hungover. I'm old. :(

We'll see what today has in store before the big shindig tonight.

The Gaslamp looked like Bourbon Street at Mardi Gras last night. I can only imagine what it would look like if it was a Padres home game.
