Fireballer 2,643 Posted October 16, 2024 I’m looking for a reliable system to track my dogs over our property. I’m reading that an Air Tag has to be with approx 100 feet of an Apple device to get located. So a dog out in the woods can’t be located with an Air tag? Any other first hand experiences with dog GPS trackers?

Any other first hand experiences with dog GPS trackers? AirTags are worthless for pets. I first tried that as well. This is what I have and really like: https://www.whistle.com/pages/compare-gps-trackers

While they stay on my property 90% of the time, there are still occasions when they chase an animal or the battery dies on the shock collar. It's a huge relief knowing that I can find them easily with the GPS on. Well worth the $99 a year.
supermike80 1,930 Posted October 16, 2024 I don't know much about air tags...But I see articles about how people toss them on luggage or whatever and can track their suitcase around the country. Why dont they work on something close like a dog?

Why dont they work on something close like a dog? I never had luck getting an accurate location when I used them. I think they can be located by pinging off other people's phones or something like that. It was pretty much worthless when I needed to know the exact location of my dogs.
