When I was like 7 years old, the neighbor kid, who was like 18, gave me all his Elvis singles, most likely original pressings.

I wore out those fockers on my cheap turntable and still have them.

I went and saw an Elvis tribute artist last year, and he did a version of "Poke Salad Annie," which I'd never before heard. It was a hell of a performance and got me listening to his later work, and some of that stuff blew me away.

Some of his best songs are in his later work.

It really wasn't until his last year that he got all fat and gross.

Suggestions on the later work.

I love the Moody Blue album. His covers of Olivia Newton John are great.

See I love orchestra Elvis the best. Even the fat stuff. Go check out him doing Unchained Melody at the end. Still awesome.

He did A LOT of covers, but he did them great.

I think my favorite song of his is "I'm Leaving."

A very well-contructed song full of heart and emotion, almost an answer to Led Zeppelin's dynamics, particularly "Babe I'm Going I'm Gonna Leave You."

If you've never seen Elvis That's The Way It Is I would recommend it. There's the original version and a special edition. I would go with the original version. Just fast forward through the rehearsal stuff and fan comments and get to the concert. It was filmed about a month before I saw him in person for the first time, so you're seeing pretty much what I saw.

My favs of Moody Blue are She Thinks I Still Care and the one Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice wrote for Elvis, It's Easy For You.

With this so-called Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, it is somehow fitting that Paul Rodgers' earlier and better band Free has not been inducted while Bad Company has been (It is true that Bad Company had some great songs and Free is considered on this side of the pond, a "one-hit wonder" but still I can't see how one could be inducted but not the other).

White Stripes?

I mean I guess they were popular, but I don't think that should be a reason to be in the R&R HOF, although it's a HOF I don't even care about. Wasn't a fan of the White Stripes myself.
