Round Seven-Ten Commentary - July Mock 2025

Recommended Posts

Thank you sir 😂

Etienne - straight up home pick! 😂😂😂

JK.  I think there will be a RB that thrives in Coen’s offense like Bucky last year.  There are two RBs on the Jags roster that fit the outside zone run scheme the best.  One being Etienne, and the other being a rookie that seems to be the sexier pick.  The deciding factor for me is two-fold.  The rookie was plagued with fumbles in college, and needs work (according to camp reports) on pass protection.  Etienne is one season removed from being the PPR RB3 in 2023, and he’s been Trevor’s RB since college…so there’s trust there.  I could be totally wrong on this gut feeling, but at this point he was the highest upside, proven at the NFL level, option for my RB2.

The ankle injury/second surgery worries me, but prior to the injury last year Godwin was the number 2 WR in points per game in PPR formats (behind only Chase).  His week one status is up in the air, but when he returns he should be a WR1/2.  I'm, obviously, betting on an earlier return.

Jeudy: Solid 4th WR/FLEX. Volume based, but he proved last year he can produce no matter who's throwing him the ball.

Robinson: For how long I've waited on RBs in this draft, I felt like I've found solid value.

Wow!  You guys really flew through a lot of picks last night.  I wasn't expecting it to be my turn this morning.

We definitely got on a nice roll yesterday!

I picked Jakobi Meyers last night because I saw 2 QB's I would be interested in selecting with only Ralphster needing a QB between my 7th and 8th round picks. I was hoping Bo Nix would be available but I will settle for my 2nd choice. There is part of me that wants to wait but part of me that wants to draft a bit differently than the June Mock.

What a mess!  This is why I like two RBs early, but here we are.  Tuten was purely an insurance pick.  I expect Etienne to be the guy in Jax as I said earlier, but if he’s not I feel like Tuten will be.  The goal was to solidify a RB2.

The Judkins pick is pure hope.  Who knows what will happen with this kid at this point, but I expect to get at least half a season from him as the workhorse he was drafted to be.  YIKES!

I've got Jayden Reed ranked higher than most, so I like the value nobody got from him @ 8.08.

As it turns out, I didn't need to take Kyler at 8.07. I had 3 QBs I would've been happy with and I knew three would be taken before it got back to me in Round 9. I didn't want to risk it, so I took Kyler but one of the QBs remains on the board. 😏

Njoku will be someone I target in a lot of draft this year, I suspect, with a certain QB back in town. I debated waiting but V4E does not have a tight end and has 2 picks before my next. I suspect there will still be some of my targets remaining at RB/WR.

Also I am glad I took Mayfield where I did as Fields is the QB I intended to pair with someone else had I waited. Though I will say there are still a few options at the position that I think are either tolerable or in some cases undervalued.

I liked that pick by nobody made.  That was going to be my next pick.  Great value there.  It pretty much made my decision for me whether to take the WR depth vs double dipping on my RB disaster by reaching.

After seeing you comment on your RB room a few times I went in and sorted the results by mocker to see how your team was shaping up. This is by no means a negative on you but after seeing your roster from the #1 spot, It sort of reaffirms my belief in taking an RB there, because I prefer to take one in the first 2 rounds but by the end of round 2, it feels potentially forced.... OR going super heavy at WR.  Granted, I went WR/WR from the 8th spot, but it felt like the tier of RB that started BEFORE your 2.12 pick ended up lasting through round 3. So i'd rather have Kamara and Swift than Brown and Etienne and for as great as Chase is, your top 3 WRs ended up as Chase, Wilson and Sutton.  I might argue my preference for Nacua, London and Ridley.  Though you did go QB and TE before I did.

Again, just an observation on pick 1 and where those RB tiers seem to end.  It's a spot where I might take Garrett Wilson and Brock Bowers and where I would have liked Higgins but not with the cincy double dip. So it is tough. Hindsight I think Bijan/Wilson/Higgins would have been interesting or RB/RB with Bijan/Brown (or Taylor) and Wilson.

:dunno:

I totally agree.  I’m more of an old school RB guy.  I firmly believe that it’s easier to find catches than it is to find a true workhorse RB.  That said, I wanted to test out the anchor RB strategy by taking Chase, then following it with the best RB available on my list.  Unfortunately my draft looks more like a zero RB strategy with a disappointing second round RB.  I will say that Chase/Wilson/Sutton are high on my list for PPR scoring.  But the way this draft has played out has made me uncomfortable and I’ve reached on RBs to fill a void.  Which also made me take a QB earlier than I like, but I felt I needed strong QB to offset the RB position.  Regardless of which strategy you pick, you’re going to have to get lucky with stretch picks at some point to be competitive.  This is probably a strategy I won’t try when it counts because I’m not comfortable with it and I’ve proven that to myself with this draft.  I’m having a blast with you all doing this, and learning things that will help me get better at a game that I absolutely love!  And I very much appreciate your thoughts on this.

There were about 5 guys I wanted in the 8th and 9th.

That 9th rounder was tricky.  My plan was to wait until the 10th or beyond for Fields, and take one of the other guys I liked.  The thing about Fields is he's not a good real life QB, but I'll be damned if he isn't a dang top 10 fantasy QB when he plays.  Even the first part of the year before he got benched by the steelers, he was killing it in fantasy.  Well the Jets don't really have another option at QB unless they're going to bench him for tyrod which means he's got a clean runway for the season to put up empty rushing stats on top of his 14 completions for 128 yards.

I figured Fields would make it to me in the 10th, but at the end of the day, I was also thinking I'm going to be real disappointed if I didn't get Fields since he has the running stats cheat code, but I can live with losing the other guys who I also think have a reasonable chance to still be there in the 10th.

The Bills gave Khalil Shakir a fat contract this Spring and he is all but locked in as Allen's #1 WR.  While that amounted to a WR3 finish last year, I suspect that that is closer to his floor than his ceiling.  Any improvement will push him toward WR2 territory and that's all I need from my fourth WR.

For my ninth round pick I wanted to go in a different direction.  There were three QB's left that I would be comfortable with as my starter.  With two other teams QB-less I almost passed on QB.  But in looking back at past drafts, the 10th round is generally where back up QB's start to come off the board.  I couldn't take the chance that the two teams without QB's wouldn't take a QB (they did) and no one else would pick a back up.  So of the three QB's I targeted, I felt Purdy was the most consistent (he's finished as QB8 and QB9 the last two years on a per game basis).  The 49er defense also lost six starters this year and, I suspect, with a weakened defense Purdy will be called upon to throw more.

I really like Pittman as a bounceback candidate. His QB is still a question (either Richardson or Jones isn't ideal), but his back injury is healed.

Would have picked him if I didn’t go TE. Agree with you

Mike - I really don't know what to do with Reed, or all of the other "good" WR's that GB has. Between the lack of elite talent and similar WR's on the team, I just think that it is going to be aggravating trying to decide which one will have a good week that week. I don't like headaches like that during the season.

I tend to agree here. I like Reed as a WR, but fantasy wise, I'd rather gamble on someone else later and hope they break out.

Well, I thought that I would just take all of the San Fran players, apparently. 🙄

I do like, Pearsall, though. I watched him in college and was hoping that my Pats would take him in the draft. The man catches EVERYTHING WITHIN 5 YARDS OF HIM.

At this point, TE is throw sh*t against the wall and see what sticks.

I like that Kraft pick.  He doesn't have a super high ceiling, but he's consistent.

If it's any consolation you sniped me with Ridley so I'm happy to return the favor.  Pollard too.  And Mike sniped me a bunch as well.

I agree. I was looking at him for my last pick . I think that he, by far, has the highest ceiling  of all the TE’s that are left available.
