edjr 6,740 Posted 6 hours ago Quote Dear GPS Families and Staff, The School Committee is writing to announce our plan for identifying Gloucester’s next superintendent that will be both inclusive and transparent. As a Committee, we are committed to finding the best leader for our schools, and we believe that a strong candidate may already be among us. We are pleased to announce that at last night’s open meeting, the School Committee voted unanimously to consider promoting Assistant Superintendent Amy Pasquarello to become Gloucester’s next superintendent. This approach is common across the state; a third of Massachusetts school districts typically consider a highly qualified internal candidate first before engaging in a broad external search. We feel this is a rigorous and prudent first step to ensure a seamless transition of leadership. Our process will be designed to gather a wide range of input from across the district and the community. The process will include three components: Staff and Community Panels: We will convene panels of stakeholders who represent a range of roles and perspectives including staff, families, students, and community members. These panels will have the opportunity to interview Assistant Superintendent Pasquarello. Public Meet & Greet with Ms. Pasquarello: Community members and staff will have a chance to meet Assistant Superintendent Pasquarello and ask her questions. Public School Committee Interview: Ms. Pasquarello will also participate in a rigorous public interview conducted by the full School Committee. The School Committee will carefully consider all input from the staff and community panels, along with the results of our reference checks, to determine if Ms. Pasquarello is the right person to be Gloucester’s next superintendent. The process will be supported by the Massachusetts Association of School Committees who presented to the School Committee at last night’s meeting about options for a superintendent search. You can review this presentation here. At our regular public meeting on September 24, the School Committee will finalize the exact timeline and the specific steps of this inclusive and public process to select our district’s next leader. We are confident that this transparent and robust approach will help us make the best decision for our students, staff, and the entire Gloucester community, ensuring a seamless and effective leadership transition. I will follow up with additional details about the timeline and how staff and school community members can participate in the process after the School Committee meeting on September 24. Anyone want to bet they will not hire, a straight, white male?

Now and forevermore, only the most qualified person gets these jobs, regardless of skin color, religion, gender, or sexual orientation! Or at least that's what I've been assured. Huge step forward societally, honestly.
