Financial Geeks....recommendations

Recommended Posts

I have a CD maturing in March....been re-upping it for 5 years now. Been adding to that fund for that time & it's up to $60k. I'll have another $7k+ to add to it when it matures & similar amounts for the next 3-4 years, getting me to around $90k. I'll be using the money as a down payment on a small place down south when I retire in that time frame. CD rates are coming down & I'm wondering what better options I have. I need something with zero risk & will need to withdraw the full nut when I retire. What should I be looking at?

What apy are you getting on the CD? I have long preferred high yield savings accounts over CDs. I recently found one paying 4.10 through Raisin who was also offering a 1k bonus on accounts opened with 100k+ with the bonus paying out after 3 months.

even if it’s a slightly lower apy than the CD, the liquidity makes it preferable, imho.

4.5%. Local rates are 3.5 to 4 now.......not sure where they will be in March.

Synchrony Bank is pretty good for online CDs and makes it easier.  I know people clown on CDs but for a small portion of your assets or money you have for a down payment you need stability on, they can make sense.
