This is a man who came up through the ranks of an institutionalized system of guns and state sanctioned murder and said, "For me, that's not enough."

 

This is a man who forced his way beyond that, till he could be alone with no one but his God, his gun, and a little bit of shrubbery for concealment and get paid for it.

 

This is a man who, while saying to his higher-ups, "It's okay, I don't need to know anything about these people, as long as I can shoot them," was able to subjugate every basic human social instinct in order to pull the trigger and slaughter people who for all he knew might have been saints or republicans, not once...not twice...but over 150 times.

It wasn't just one gun but shooting another. The guy who was with him was recovering from PTSD, one method of therapy is to bring them to a range an get used to the noises and smell of gun powder, etc.. They try to get them reacclimated to normal life by exposing them just a little of what they're used to.

 

Sounds pretty stupid, but I've heard it actually works. Apparently it didn't work on this guy and he went back into war mode.
