This is a great signing, goes hand in hand with the Ted Washington deal. The Browns now have two veteran, championship players who are very experienced in the 3-4. Both are short term deals that won't break the bank. Both players will bring leadership at the Browns weakest links on defense (NT and pass rush OLB) and will help bring younger players along.

The Browns are clearly having the best offseason out of all teams, IMO.

Very nice signing for the Browns.

This is gonna help them from a leadership POV, at this age I dont know if McGinest could have been productive in any other defense than the Pats or Browns this upcoming season. If Charlie Frye can continue to improve on his late season starts this team could push for the 6th playoff spot, it's a long shot but they are starting to gather enough talent.

Man that's a great deal. McGinest is still a powerhouse on defense with a couple good years left. Now the Browns can focus on an interior LB in the draft to pair with Andra, hopefully a speed guy like Abdul Hodge. The Browns have been impressive this offseason, and are due for a good run to the playoffs. Plus, Frye looked good at the end of last year. Should be an interesting season for the Browns.

Can any Patroits homers chime in here? How well did you see McGinest play last year? Does he have much more left in the tank? Was he strictly a situational player?

Good for Willie!

It will suck to know he is playing somewhere other than here next year, but, that is life. He was a great player for the Pats, and will help the Browns improve, both with his play and showing the young'ins what to do.

Willie is a good signing for CLE.

He's a locker room/team leader type guy who has a great understanding of the 3-4 scheme and how to play in it as a DL/LB "tweener".

Romeo is building in CLE and McGinnest will be a great assett to him in getting the message/philosophy across to the rest of the team.

Physically I'm not sure how well Willie will hold up. He's got a lot of miles on him. He was solid for NE last year... I don't think he missed a game. But I can't imagine that will happen again at his age (and with all the extra time he's put in during the playoffs over the last few seasons).

Another bonus with Willie is that he's a big game player. Come playoff time, he's one of those guys the really steps it up. As much as Vinatieri has a knack for making clutch kicks, Willie's got a knack for making big plays at critical times.

In the end, I believe this was the right move for BOTH NE and CLE. NE has plenty of "locker room" guys. What they need is to get younger, faster, more athletic at LB. And as mentioned above, CLE needs more guys who know and can sell the system.
