NE Signs Reche Caldwell

Recommended Posts

this is par for the course for NE.

they will pick up a stable of mid grade WRs and see what they can throw against the wall to stick.

Especially after the June 1st cuts, there will be more of the David Patten type guys available.

Isn't he coming off an injury?

Not last year, but the year before, I believe he tore his ACL. I'm not sure if he was fully recovered last season though.

When Caldwell is healthy, he's pretty darn good. I like this signing quite a bit.

On a side note, it would seem that San Diego really needs to look WR in the draft now. McCardell is pretty old and Parker is better as a slot receiver. They need some help for Rivers at that position.

6'6" 235 lbs

POSITIVES: King-sized receiver who may ultimately grow into a tight end or H-back. Offers the quarterback a nice target, uses his large frame to outmuscle opponents and displays both focus and concentration. Extends and then snatches the pass out of the air, displays good eye/hand coordination and is relatively effective running after the reception. Moves well laterally, finding the soft spot in the defense. Sells his routes, comes back to the quarterback and adjusts well to the errant throw. Physically beats down opposing defensive backs to make the reception. Experienced as both a punt and kick returner.

NEGATIVES: Lacks the deep speed, acceleration and more of an underneath or possession wideout. At times goes down easily after the catch.

ANALYSIS: Ultra-productive the past two seasons, Jackson offers good potential at a number of spots in the NFL. Could be used as a king-sized possession or slot receiver for an offense, and is also viewed as a .move. tight end. His ability to handle a big step up in competition will determine whether he is a practice-squad prospect or a final roster player.

Caldwell, A perfect pick for the Pats. Will always have a little tweek during the week. With The Pats you will never know if he has practiced or not or if he will start or not. Yet if you don't use him he will have 50 - 60 yards and a td. A perfectly frustrating Pats wr.

Anyone else unimpressed with NE's free agent pick ups/players picke up in trades the last couple of years?

Monty Beisel, Chad Brown, Chad Scott, David Terrel, Andre Davis, Tyrone Pool, Duane Starks.....etc, etc. But a pile of garbage.

Is Bellicheck losing his touch?

Fantasy impact = 0. I can't think of a Patsy WR who has been on my draft board in 10 years. It's ok to draft them if you play in IDP leagues as one never knows, they might end up playing D and help there. Brady just spreads the ball so much that none of them are worth anything.

Branch is good, if fairly inconsistent.

He may amount to nothing, but at least he is fairly young with upside rather than an older has been / never was type of pickup. They needed depth bigtime, so any warm body is a needed addition.
