delete this post before people get my tickets, you jackweasel!!!

You're probably safe with it being discussed around this bunch.

Why is that quote all messed up? I didn't do anything to it. In fact, it showed up that way the first time and I deleted it and tried again and the same thing happened.

raconteur \rack-on-TUR\, noun:

One who excels in telling stories and anecdotes.

I assume the clever Jack White came up with this name. I've heard this word used in conversation and on television more regularly since I found out this band was formed.

did you guys ask ilovemustachios if it was ok for you to like this band?

My local "alternative" radio station played the single the other night. I may have to stop liking them before their album even drops in the US.

It's tough being a hipst-a!

New Releases, May 16: The Raconteurs

The Raconteurs, "Broken Boy Soldiers"

The Raconteurs are an indie-rock supergroup featuring vocalist/guitarist Jack White (The White Stripes), bassist Jack Lawrence and drummer Patrick Keeler (both from The Greenhornes), and singer/songwriter Brendan Benson.

The band will hopefully tour to support this debut album. Thus far, the group has only slotted a handful of UK and European festival dates and announced that it will play one US gig, on Aug. 4 at Lollapalooza in Chicago.

The Raconteurs map summer tour

May 16, 2006 12:39 PM

by Jim Harrington

The Raconteurs (tickets | music)--the heralded indie-rock super-group featuring Jack White of The White Stripes--have announced details for their highly anticipated summer tour.

The young band, which also features bassist Jack Lawrence and drummer Patrick Keeler (both from The Greenhornes), as well as acclaimed singer/songwriter Brendan Benson, will kick off its tour July 17 in Denver. The run is currently scheduled to wind up Aug. 6 in Cleveland, OH.

Tickets for most currently confirmed shows go on sale this weekend. On-sale dates and other show information is listed below.

The Raconteurs are touring in support of their debut CD, "Broken Boy Soldiers," which was released today (5/16) by the V2 label. Initial reviews from both fans and the press have been very positive.

White, of course, is the best-known member of The Raconteurs. Many indie-pop fans, however, consider Benson to be the band's biggest selling point. The Berkeley, CA-based power-pop star has released a trio of solid solo records: 1996's "One Mississippi," 2002's "Lapalco" and 2005's "The Alternative to Love."

As a way to generate publicity for the new album, The Raconteurs will perform a free show May 18 at Tower Records in New York (the 4th and Broadway location). Passes to the show will be distributed to those who buy a copy of "Broken Boy Soldiers" at that Tower store today starting at 9 a.m. EST. First come, first served. See store for more details.

my quick review:

decent, but too short (with ten tracks clocking in at just over half an hour). never gets to where it wants to go. unsurprisingly sounds like the white stripes with a few session musicians thrown in...shocker. some of the melodies are very beatles-esque...but who doesn't drive down that road now and again. fun for a side project, but obviously nothing more.

6.5 out of 10

...that's after only one listen.

Wow, that was a perfect review. Essentially the same exact way I feel about it upon my 1st impressions.

definetly too short: Jack never really gets to go nuts on the guitar. and you're dead on about the melodies sounding alot like the Beatles (not that that is a bad thing)

i like a couple of the songs but was underwhelmed by the album. there's a couple slow songs that really did nothing for me. and with only 10 songs and 33 minutes of music thats a big letdown. i was hoping for more Jack Guitar here

The Raconteurs have made a new video for their debut single 'Steady, As She Goes' - starring Pee Wee Herman actor Paul Reubens.

The promo follows Jack White and Brendan Benson's band on an old fashioned soapbox car race, with Reubens as a devious pit boss stooping to low levels to ensure a win for his racer.

It's the second video was made for the track - a clip directed by Jim Jarmusch has been airing regularly since the single's proper release in April.

The luckiest boy in the world! :argue:
