Deadpool 0 Posted April 17, 2006 Not going to copy over the entire article, just a few execerpts. If you would like to read it all, click the link below........ It also talks about McNabb vs. Owens, like we need more of that drama. Linkage Smith not counting on Keyshawn factor Panthers star unsure of addition's affect Jaymes Powell Jr., Staff Writer Despite his decade of big plays, big talk and big hype, newly signed Carolina Panthers wideout Keyshawn Johnson is no replacement for Muhsin Muhammad, Panthers All-Pro receiver Steve Smith says. When asked if the addition of Johnson, who signed a four-year deal reportedly worth $19 million, would help the Panthers' offense, Smith said he was not sure. "I don't know. Everybody wants me to speculate. I can't speculate," Smith said at the annual Holt Brothers Celebrity Golf Classic. "The natural thing to say is 'yeah he's going to help us', but time will tell." "Nobody plays like Moose [Muhammad]. Nobody ever will play like Moose to me," Smith said.
yostevo 0 Posted April 17, 2006 I'm not really sure that you can say that Steve Smith is "not impressed" with Keyshawn after reading the article. That's kinda putting words in his mouth. It sounded more like he was giving big props to his old teammate and was moreless sitting on the fence about Keyshawn. "The natural thing to say is 'yeah he's going to help us', but time will tell." I think it's a well thought out statement actually. He's not dissing Keyshawn but he's moreless challenging Keyshawn to fill the big shoes that Moose left behind when he left. Exactly what I was thinking. How is this a slap at Keyshawn exactly?
Deadpool 0 Posted April 17, 2006 No, the thing that he should have said was this....."I think Keyshawn is a good addition and is going to help us win. He will bring to this team what we have missing since Mushin left." Guys that are team players that don't want to start any controversy say things like above and are supportive of new teamates, regardless of how they really feel. During a celebrity golf tournament April 7 at Brier Creek Country Club, Smith said Johnson is a good player, but not on the same level of Muhammad, who left Carolina last year for Chicago via free agency. I didn't mean to put words in his mouth, but if this isn't the same thing as saying he's not impressed, I don't know what is. This probably won't go over well because now you just gave the media something to feed on.

Again, I think you are reading a little too far into the statement. To say he's good but not on the same level as a former teammate isn't necessarily calling him out or dissing him. It's just saying that he feels that Muhammed is a better receiver. He's going to be biased. (Obviously) Keyshawn calling out Wayne Chrebet years ago was dissing another player and I would say he wasn't "impressed" with him.
Deadpool 0 Posted April 17, 2006 You're right, I probably am reading too much into it. But my take on the article is that he is not impressed with him. Then again, it could just be media hype as well........................like that never happens.
