BennyAndTheJets 0 Posted April 21, 2006 TE seems to be the most FF position most in flux. I missed out on some of the top TE's in the draft last year and spent the season rotating in and out a bunch of garbage. Was wondering if people think Vernon Davis will make an immediate impact in FF this year? Will he be a product of whether a decent team picks him up? I feel like if he goes to the 49er's I'd have some concerns based on Alex Smith's lack of TD's last year.

I feel like if he goes to the 49er's I'd have some concerns based on Alex Smith's lack of TD's last year. Another way of looking at it is that Alex Smith had no posession receiver (Bryant >>> Lloyd) no TE, and no OL to give him time to check down his targets. So getting a true stud playmaker like Davis with his size, hands and speed could boost Alex Smith's production significantly - one could even argue that having a young inexperienced QB could be the best scenario for VDavis to land in fantasy-wise becase he'll be so heavily leaned on. luckdogg17 0 Posted April 21, 2006 i think davis should be a good option this year and possibly a ff stud for years to come. a lot of his production could depend on the team he goes to though. i would think that whatever team that uses a top 6, or whatever, pick on him will throw him the ball a lot if for nothing else, to warrant their picking him. then you throw in his assumed amazing talent and it seems like a recipe for success. i'd expect to move him up or down some if certain teams draft him. off the top of my head, sf seems a little scary because i'm not sure that alex smith will get it done but davis should still be a top ten te even in a bad situation. purely specultion, but i see him becoming one of the elite te's in the league. RamslovaMartzhata 3 Posted April 21, 2006 On whatever team he goes to, no... on a great deal of teams yes. He does have blocking technique issues that he was able to get away with due to superior athletic ability in college that is definitely a concern. It's too early to tell though. sharkie22 0 Posted April 21, 2006 A productive TE is definitely an impact player for any fantasy team. With his speed, hands and over all athleticism, Davis should be huge. In a dynasty or keeper league he might well be worth the risk with a pick typically reserved for WR 2's. He probably won't produce to that draft selection as a rookie but watch out after his rookie year. I did the same thing with Gates using my 6th pick in '04 and have been lovin' it ever since. esoitl 0 Posted April 21, 2006 i dont think it matters really TE is a position with little in the way of top players Gonzo really faded last year so whos there to compete with Gates? i think he leap frogs so many players no matter the team, SF especially with a lack of WRs Smith will love the guy and while it wont be so easy, he has some sick moves and speed for someone his size, not to mention he can power over defenders he will definately make some plays by himself
Raider 84 29 Posted April 22, 2006 This guy is a stud and any decent qb should be looking his way all game because of the mismatches he causes.
Enoch 1 Posted April 22, 2006 I am very high on him. I think he will an NFL & FF stud. Now will it happen in his 1st year? don't think so,but no matter what team he plays for he will be a key part soon.
adam smitty 0 Posted April 22, 2006 In a dynasty, yes; but in a redraft its too iffy right now. He could end up like Winslow JR his rookie year but I doubt that. NFL rookies are very hard to predict unless they get in a very good situation.

NFL rookies are very hard to predict unless they get in a very good situation. I personally am eyeing him for the TE spot. I feel he could be gotten late and put up top 5 numbers. Comparing him to Winslow is pretty dumb: Kellen was injured. Any player, rookie or veteran can get hurt.
49ER MAN 0 Posted April 22, 2006 Yeah, he will make a nice imapct for whatever team he goes to with perhaps the exception of the Pack seeing as they already have Franks.
geb 0 Posted April 23, 2006 If N. Orleans picks?? V. Davis, it will give Brees the big target he had in S. Diego, which he used quite effectively.

jerryskids 6,789 Posted April 23, 2006 The thing about TEs in a league which requires them (like mine) is the huge drop in production between the top (Gonzo, Gates in recent past) and most of the rest. In other words, if you tier by position, there is a huge gap, vs. RB and WR. I'd be surprised if Davis makes it past the 5th round in my (12 team) league. That's the problem in my local 12 teamer redrafts...in the SF Bay Area, someone will reach for Davis if the Niners take him - it'll be no secret. But I don't think it will be 5th round....waaaaay too many proven options at WR and even RB or QB sitting there in the 5th. I see VDavis going somewhere around the 9th-11th round. In keeper leagues, I could see him going as high as the 5th.
