WR Draft Gems

Fox Sports has an article about draft gems in Saturday's draft. I'm curious about on of the receivers they listed:

 

Wide receiver:

1. Greg Jennings, Western Michigan, 5-11, 195, 4.51

2. Willie Reid, Florida State, 5-10, 188, 4.44

3. Delanie Walker, Central Missouri, 6-1, 240, 4.49

4. Brandon Williams, Wisconsin, 5-10, 179, 4.49

5. Travis Wilson, Oklahoma, 6-1, 208, 4.50

 

Has anyone heard of or seen Delanie Walker play? That's some freakish speed for 240 lbs...

I saw Greg Jennings play this season at Western, and I have to say that I think he is going to be a very good NFL WR. He's got that quick speed even though his fourty times aren't blazing. Hands are great. Made circus catches all year. Shifty kick returner.

 

He really was a leader for the Broncos this year too. In one game he passed, ran, and caught for a TD. Just a good all around football player and a good-character guy.

Of all those, I think Willie Reid might have the most potential to be a randel el type wr

Brandon Williams was terrific at Wisconsin. Great all around athlete. Very elusive player, who really excelled in the return game. Can make people miss and does great things after the catch. You'd like him to be a bit heavier, but I think someone will be getting a steal in Williams. He's a play maker.

I really like Brandon Marshall, out of Central Florida. He's 6 ft 4, 230 and runs a 4.5 40. He caught 5 passes for 101 yards and a td in the Hula Bowl. Even though he's raw (he only pleyed WR for 2 years) he has Terrell Owens like ability, but not the attitude. I'd love to see the Giants grab him in round 3-4.

It's almost embarrassing how high I graded him after scouting the top WRs. I like him WR2 in the whole draft.

Orr and Williams were both underutilized at Wisconsin. Tough calls on both. Orr seems to be getting more love from scouts in the offseason, whereas Williams was the higher rated during the season. Orr has size and speed. Williams is a more gifted athlete. I think I pass on both.

Yes. I negotiated some film on Walker. I was very intrigued. He was a high school phenom here in SoCal and had BIG academic issues. He continued some fine play at a local JC before going to Missouri where slow learners are allowed in college. He has a learning disability, but his coaches swear as long as he's playing football, he's fine. He didn't run that fast either, 4.5 something was his combine time. He didn't wiegh 240 either, 232 was official. That said, he looks interesting on film, but he was playing very weak competition. Hard to say if it translates. 6th 7th rounder, and I wish him well.

I would say he is similar to a Derrick Mason type-player. A little undersized, but has great hands and runs great routes.

Having watched every game of Travis Wilson's for the last three years, I think he would be a steal in round 3 or 4 where he's now projected. When they were all together, I rated him behind Mark Clayton but ahead of Mark Bradley and Brandon Jones.

 

Strengths: runs great routes, knows how to get open, can take a hit, has a nose for the end zone.

 

Weaknesses: not convinced he fully recovered from last year's injury and when he returned did not have good communication with or confidence in our awful freshman QB, and that wasn't all Bomar's fault.

 

I believe when he is surrounded with NFL quality players, the confidence issue will evaporate. Not sure about the health issue, because he only had the one injury and it is rare for any player to avoid that entirely.

I was happy to see Marshall land in Denver...a good place forhim to learn behind one of the best in Rod Smith. With Walker now on board, he can be a solid #2 in a few years. Keep your eye on him!

Don't forget about Hagan. He has size and skills, but not big breakway speed. He could very well end up being a solid possession receiver.

Brandon Williams I have watched his entire career. He just got better and better. He is a football player, great speed and great attitude. He will be starting soon in the NFL.

From the little I have seen of Hagan, it looks like he has some real concentration issues. Too many drops.

Funny Denver landed him after we were talking about him...I was hoping they'd get a big receiver they could develop. He certainly has two good ones to learn from. I had never heard of him but he certainly has some fans here. Rotoworld already started calling him "Baby TO"

That's what I like to hear. Seems like me just might be polished enough to offer some kind of help right away, ala Terrence Murphy last season (prior to injury.)
