Stole this from a Bears board - pretty funny ...

[before pick 26]

JA: Alright men, Lovie's sent me a list of needs for the team, and I think we should really go over them before we start picking. Jenkins - what does Lovie say the team's number one need is?

Jenkins: ...A tight end sir. We really need one.

JA: A tight end? What is this, some sort of perverse prank? When I hired Lovie, I figured he was WAY more mature than that. Who's on the board right now, Clipboard-Holding Man?

CHM: Well, Chad Jackson is on the board - our wide receiver corps isn't the greatest - I mean, Muhsin Muhammad is our number one guy, but he IS 34. Bernard Berrian and Justin Gage really don't strike fear into anyone either. Leonard Pope and Marcedes Lewis are available as well at the tight end position.

JA: Tight end? This seriously needs to stop. From my vantage point, there really aren't any first round players worth drafting, so check to see if someone like Denver or New England wants our spot.

Jenkins: I uh... hear that Buffalo wants it, sir.

JA: Perfect. Get their 2nd and 3rd round picks in exchange for it. I'm sure they'll make good use of it like they did their 8th pick *snickers*

[before 42nd pick]

JA: Alright, who's left on the board now, Clipboard Guy?

CGM: Well, Leonard Pope is still on the board. We have a glaring hole at tight end.

JA: That sounds like a contradiction in terms. Regardless, it doesn't matter. I just had a stroke of genius.

Jenkins: Really?

JA: Yes - we gained our first super bowl victory thanks to Walter Payton, a Division I-AA superstar. I figure - drafting all these Division I-A players doesn't get us anything, so we should go one BETTER and draft a Division II guy! I can't believe I didn't think of this earlier!

Jenkins: But... 21 of the 22 starters on the team WERE Division I-A players, Mr. Angelo

JA: Yes, but not ALL of them. I've got just the guy in mind, too. This defensive back out of Abilene Christian. Our defense needs work, right?

Roberts: Well, actually - with the exception of Tank Johnson, who's injured, it really doesn't need a HUGE overhaul.

JA: Right.

[before Pick 57]

JA: What's next on the board?

CHM: Well, inexplicably, Leonard Pope is still available. I suggest we draft him, because I seriously doubt he will reach us at pick 73.

JA: I'm not Catholic, and I don't have need for a Pope. What else is out there?

CHM: Well, you could draft a DIFFERENT tight end.

JA: This 'tight end' gag really is annoying me, men. I don't think it's funny at all. Hey - is that Vince Young guy still available? I heard he was pretty good.

Roberts: No, sir. I'm afraid not.

JA: Oh! I just realized what we needed. You saw in the playoffs - our cornerback situation is abysmal. Nobody could cover Steve Smith! We need to draft a cornerback, and I mean now!

CHM: Are you sure? We could be able to pick up a steal on day 2.

JA: Preposterous. You know, there's a guy in Miami of Florida who could be a wide receiver slash kick returner guy. Replaces Jerry Azumah. He did retire, right?

Jenkins: Will you promise to draft Pope if he reaches us in round 3 then?

JA: If I must.

[before pick 72]

JA: *on the phone* And I REALLY need you guys to do this, okay?

CHM: Who are you talking to, sir?

JA: Just some guy I like to call Mr. Green. You know - that guy from Clue?

Jenkins: Uh... yeah.

Roberts: Arizona just drafted Leonard Pope! NOW who are we going to draft?

JA: Phew - I mean, crap. Well, we need defense, right?

yep, I personally think we came out of Day1 with WAY less than we should have...considering everyone that fell.

Including Manning Jr, we spent 3 of 4 picks plugging the minor holes in the D and the 4th pick helps us in the KR game.

Offence is apparently fine - cruise control that light show. :argue:

I know this is all just a funny joke but jokes aside, Safety was clearly our #1 upgrade need outside of a nickel CB

Without Mike Brown at the end of last year, the Bears D looked very average for the last few weeks and then in the playoffs too. (Not sure if you remember but Favre was marching up and down on us both at Chi and at GB and if not for some timely ints, we would have lost to them despite them not having any real offensive talent outside Favre).

Now take into account that Mike B has had some injury issues and the fact that Chris Harris gets burnt in the cover 2 since he lacks speed, it is obvious we needed a S with speed.....and we got one

We got a project CB (awesome for developing) who, again (this is the key word) has speed. You cannot teach speed, you can teach everything else. And he can return kickoffs/punts too (agains something we sucked at last year)

We got a DT who, again, has speed for his position and can play the one gap scheme and penetrate on passing downs. With our need to continuously have fresj legs on the DL for this D to succeed, this is a great pick too, even after Tank J comes back.

As for TE, look out for Jai Lewis tomorrow. I have had a hunch the Bears will take him some time tomorrow if they can.

I'm not too concerned about them not taking a TE. I would have liked Jackson, but the more I look at the deals that teams made in the early 2nd, we just had no shot.

Cleveland gave up Faine and 43 to get 34. Washington gave up 53, their 6th, and their #2 next season for 35. And the Packers weren't going to trade with us, even if they were they get 52 and 75 for 36...

I guess you could argue that we should have taken Sincore Moss with the 1st second and probably gotten Manning with the later 2nd, Hester with the 3rd, but I just don't think there's any guarantee we would have gotten Manning with the later 2nd or Hester in the 3rd. If those are the guys Angelo wanted and couldn't live without, we'll see how they play on the field...

WHat is sad DrJ actually when anyone whones about how the Bears did not get anyone on O WITHOUT realizing that we have 3 rookies from last year (Benson, Bradley, Currie) who rarely played last year and will all be playing thjis year. Yes they are unproven, but so would the rookies be that we drafted today. I prefer that Jerry drafts defense (he rocks at his defensive talent eval), and if needed, get O in FA. Simple.

What I'd give to read the script from the Bills war room!

I generally am the most philosophic Bears fan of all after all the NFL drafts. I thouht the Benson pick last year was okay. I did not love Mike Williams.

I have no clue what they did yesterday. I don't mind them trading out of the first. The 2nd second rounder and the third round pick baffle me somewhat. They added no one to a terrible offense. Guys like Pope, Fasano, Justice were all available to add depth and pitch in. Listening to Angelo's and Smith's press conference was maddenning. It sound to me as if they thought Chicago had a prolific offense last year. They love their curent WRs and TEs. Apparently I slept through most of the season and missed their great success. Reminds me of last year as we prepared to face Carolina in the playoffs. They kept saying how they handled Smith in the earlier meeting when he caught something like 14 for 169 yards. They were ecstatic they kept him out of the end zone. Maybe these 3 guys drafted will keep him out of the end zone in 2006. Soooooooooooooo cocky. We'll see!

Very disappointing. I hope I am wrong.
