Real draft going on right now

Recommended Posts

Just picked up David Akers

Battle, Booker, Justin McCareins and Reggie W all still there, so can definitely still pick 2 of them. DT, K run going on so it was good I got Akers (my #1 PK target). We get 5 pts for 50+ and Akers and can kick it with the best (assuming healthy this season). Also Eagles will move the ball but will not score many TDs without TO.

All I need is someone for week 3 really (so Samie Parker/Eric Parker is out since they have bye week 3 too)

Marty Booker (my #1 choice for WR #5....can have huge upside with Culpepper in a PPR league)

Arnaz Battle (garbage time catches for a team playing catch up all the time)

Bobby Engram (PPR league this guy can be solid for one week which is all I will need - week 3)

Pinkston/Greg lewis (again, week 3 the Eagles play San Francisco and week 3 is all I will need them for anyways....but who is the #2? Lewis or Pinkston?)

Reche Caldwell (#2 in NE???)

Justin McCareins (#2 with Jets.....might play catch up a lot in 2nd half means some catches .... PPR league)

Cleveland Browns #2 WR (who the hell is he? Assuming Braylon is out in week 3, who will be opposite Jurevicious?)

Marcus Robinson/Travis Taylor

Bills #2 WR (Price? Who is that?)

Michael Jenkins just got picked so scratch that.

The above are more solid. The ones below are ones I have to take a chance and hope and pray:

Reggie Williams - Jax

Charles Rogers - Lions

Mark Bradley/Bernard Berrian (Bears - but who is #2 here again?)

Patrick Crayton (#3 with Dallas....not sure he is worth anything unless Glenn goes down)

Battle

Booker

Williams

Without knowing bye weeks, I like these 3 the best from your list.

I think DaBomb hit it on the head by saying go for upside here in lieu of week 3 matchup games.

If you want to go Philly WR, Stinkston looks like a less smelly turd.

if u choose reggie williams...i think its a mistake, the guy is the worst, a huge letdown in jax, and they are starting to lose faith and put the ball in the hands of matt jones and wilford.

i know, i was just having some fun. i thought about posting his lineup with only backups in there to refute the guy, but it wasnt worth my time. some people, lol.

RB Tatum Bell DEN 0.00 4.12 4

RB Ahman Green GBP 0.00 6.12 6

RB Fred Taylor JAC 0.00 7.01 6

WR David Givens NEP 0.00 10.12 6

WR Ashley Lelie DEN 0.00 13.01 4

WR Troy Williamson MIN 0.00 14.12 6

TE Dallas Clark IND 0.00 12.12 6

not too bad for back up schleps...and the phrase i used was "could beat half"...which i don't think is too far fetched.

looks like it would be pretty tough to get the "w" in week 6...

not if denver scores 80 that week. of course even then, it might be cedric cobbs for 10 TDs.

s34 - love the akers pick. very solid kicker, good upside for distance, you know its points.

Not only that Da Bomb, the man will have many opportunities. With TO gone, Eagles do not really have a red zone threat....I see many stalled drives in the redzone forcing them to kick it. Akers will be cha ching this year .....and you can get him after Rackers, Vinateiri (who sucks at >50 yards for last 3 years.....he is 0 for 8 or something like that), Vanderjagt

Randel El? Jenkins or White?

Engram if he isnt injured is always underrated and in a PPR i assume he's valuable. He loves being a #3. Taylor is cabable of doing some damage too. I still like shooting for upside like RegWilliams too.

What about the #3 in Ariz? Bryant Johson or whatever. If one of the other guys gets banged up he's in a great situation.

Anyone take Norwood or Duckett yet? I still think you should grab one more QB. Volek?

Randel El, Jenkins, WHite, Norwood, Duckett all gone. Battle just went too.

Shooting for 2 (hopefully I get 3) out of Reggie Williams, Marty Booker, Corey Bradford (he is #2 with Det right now), Mark Bradley (Bears), Justin McCareins.

Volek is gone. Will take one out of Rivers, Rex Grossman, Chad Pennington (has upside if he comes back healthy) and maybe Kyle Boller though he might not start anyways.

i would definitely take a flyer on philip rivers this late. i mean, the guy was a top 5 pick and hes been learning. thats been proven to be a good way to bring along a QB. and even though his throw is awkward as anything, some guys out there assumed he had enough talent to be a top 5 pick and to let a pro bowler leave san diego to make room. i wouldnt expect anything amazing, but this late? cant hurt.

Pennington? you're crazy, not with your squad.

I like Phillips or even Losman.

Leinart?

Fry isnt still there is he? He's the pick if he is.

frye has good upside too, but i like a QB from san diego a heckuva lot more, just because of who he has to throw the ball to.

Just picked up Reggie W, but Rivers went 4 picks later & Grossman went 3 picks later. Might have to settle for Chad P, Frye, Alex Smith or Losman for #3. Without Braylon E though, I have doubts on Frye.

All kidding aside Sweet, I wouldnt hesitate to grab Matt Leinart at this point. Youve already got Warner, whom youre planning on riding while/if Palmer is unavailable. Is anyone else in the league going to be throwing to Fitzgerald and Boldin besides Warner and Leinart?? Did I miss a meeting? Id rather have Leinart any day, rookie or not, throwing to those 2 guys vs Pennington or Frye or any of the other lower tier QBs that are still available. Think outside of the box on this.

Update - got myself Reggie Williams and Reche Caldwell (can be #2 for NE I think this year).....still got 2 more picks to go

Booker got picked one pick before Caldwell (darn it). Battle went earlier.

Some other WRs I might consider with next pick:

Peerless Price - could be #2 with Bills again

Dennis Northcutt - #2 with Browns in absence of Edwards at least for 1st half of year

JUstin McCareins - #2 with Jets

Corey Bradford - #2 with Lions right now in mini camp it seems

personally none of those guys really excites me with too much upside. are any green bay WRs other than driver taken? what about a flier on ferguson or even rod gardner? it used to be that brett favre would have a new favorite receiver every year, so maybe this year driver gets double teamed all season while one of these guys puts up good numbers.

also, agree with the leinart comment. youre better off making sure you have the zona QB. leinart will be bad and the cards will lose if he plays much this season, but he'll still put up solid fantasy numbers every game. if you get him, i think youre fine at QB. honestly, could you ever see yourself playing frye or pennington over palmer and the arizona QB?

Green Bay receivers are all gone, including Gardner and Ferguson

I already have Reggie Williams/Jax (I thought Da Bomb you said that would be a upside pick) and Reche Caldwell (he could be the new David Givens in NE.....Brady has to throw the ball to someone and with Branch's fragility, Caldwell could be a nice pick up)

I have 2 more picks to go and if any of these fall I might consider it:

WRs:

Justin McCareins (#2 Jets)

Dennis Northcutt (with Edwards out, he will be #1 or 2 depending on how well Jurevicious picks up the O), Corey Bradford (he is considered #2 in Det right now)

Bryant Johnson (#3 but canhave huge upside with any injury to Boldin and even as #3 he has some decent days).

Mark Bradley/Bernard Berrian - one of them will be Bears #2....but who?

Greg Lewis: Eagles #2?

Ronald Currie: This guy was a very good PPR receiver as #3 before his 2 injuries....not sure what he has left right now and I already have 2 Oak Wrs (but in sense it is a handcuff if Porter or Moss get injured?)

Marcus Robinson: The clusterfuck of Tyrone W/Travis T/Marcus R/Koren R means who is #1 or #2???)

Peerless Price/Josh Reed: Who is #2 with Bills?

RBs:

William Green (this guy could have huge upside given how many carries Droughns has had last 2 years....chances of injury.....also, with Droughns assault issues?)

QBs:

Charlie Frye

Brad Johnson (this guy has no weapons at WR and new offense worries me or he could be a solid #3)

Chad Pennington/Patrick Ramsey (I just read Pennington is throwing well at OTAs ..... at www.nfl.com)

Alex Smith (this guy could be decent with Vernon Davis and hopefully Eric Johnson coming back too, to go with Battle and Bryant)

Thoughts????

with the QBs... sure guys like johnson, pennington, and frye are decent. im surprised johnson is still there, even with a weak WR corps. he is a very solid, steady backup fantasy QB. i still think, though, that you would never play any of those guys over palmer or warner/leinart. so i dont think its worth bothering.

the WRs dont look entirely exciting to me. i like the two you grabbed as good upside guys. of the ones you listed...

bryant johnson - yes, good upside, and thats it. as a 3rd WR for arizona, hes worthless. if boldin gets hurt again, johnson is starter quality as a WR3. hes pretty talented and would start for many teams, but theres no room for him with edge, fitz, and Q getting looks first. the best upside of anyone you had though, for sure.

mark bradley - was good in limited action for the bears last year and should be their #2 probably... but what does that mean? seriously, do you really want the #2 WR for most of these teams? chicago, philly, buffalo, cleveland? i dont see the value.

minnesota WRs - too many for any of them to be worth much. travis taylor and mrob are the obvious options, but they were there last year in a similar situation and both were worthless. krob has upside but is good. i like billy mcmullens upside, but hes not worth drafting. if troy williamson is there, he could be worth a stash as upside, in case he ends up starting by the second half of the year. ridiculous speed.

others to consider, if theyre there:

chris henry - excellent upside, freakish talent, one injury away from being a star

samie parker - surely hes gone, but if not, hes an easy pick

eric parker - ditto

sinorice moss - longshot gut feeling. toomer sucks, and the new quick WR has become a fad. with plax, tiki, and shockey to stretch the field, i could see moss being a decent WR3 by the end of the year.

jabbar gaffney - most talented philly option. behind pinkston and lewis probably right now, but theyve both had their chances and failed. he could be utterly worthless, but could turn into their top receiver

keary colbert - flashed talent two years ago and disappeared afterward. smith is injury prone. if he goes down, maybe colbert is this years smith 05 or muhammad 04.

kevin curtis - im assuming hes gone, but hes an excellent chioce. was like top 15 last year, and is starter quality if he ever gets a chance to start in st louis.

bobby engram - you mentioned him before. seattle plays 3 WRs, so he will score a couple poitns each week. and with your team, he steps in for djax and you dont miss a beat if djax goes down.

*shrug* for whatever all that is worth...

Chris Henry, Colbert, Gaffney have been added to my list too.

I like the idea of Gaffney because he has decent talent, a solid QB throwing him the ball and in week 3 he plays San Fran :argue:

william green is a good longshot upside guy too. former first round pick, playing behind an improved line, maybe the only thing between him and a good season is another legal problem for droughns. doubtful, but you never know.

im very surprised that chris henry is still there. he would be at the top of my list. last year in limited action, he had 31 catches, 422 yards, and 6 TDs. hes already shown hes a big redzone threat, and hes not an awful guy if you had to play a bench WR one week because he might score a jump-ball TD. those numbers arent great, but for a mid round rookie they are solid. henry, to me, already looked to be taking catches from tj housh by the end of hte year, and hes clearly more talented than tj. imagine the gold you might have struck if henry ends up becoming a starter by the end of the year and you get tj-type points, plus doubled since you have carson palmer.

pipe dream maybe, but the upside is definitely there. i would rank them chris henry, william green, bryant johnson.

gaffney is a longshot, id put him after those 3. week 3's good matchup may be negligible for him because hes the WR4 right now, and it would be hard to see him move up that much by week 3.

Before my 19th round pick, the following players got picked up:

My 18th round pick - Reche Caldwell

Matt Stover

Jeb Putzier

Lawrence Tynes

Najeh devnpoop

Brad Johnson

Josh Brown

Gaffney

Anthony Thomas

Corey Bradford

Charles Rogers

So since Gaffney, Brad Johnson, Bradford were all gone, I went ahead and picked Chad Pennington. I just do not like Charlie Frye since Edwards will be out until Nov and even if he comes back then, after an ACL, he will not be the same this year. Also, Joe J is learning a new system and is a great #3 but not a great #1. And Dennis Northcutt is Dennis Northcutt. Winslow is there but again, who knows how he will be this year ....in short I prefer Chad Pennington's upside with the new OL than Frye's.

Here is an article on Chad that makes me optimistic. Also, I can pick up Leinart off the WW if something does happen to Warner or if training camp reports show Chad P as not being the guy. If Ramsey becomes the starter, I can still dump Chad and pick up Leinart off the WW.

Great feedback on Chris Henry....will keep my fingers crossed to get him with my last pick. Huge upside, you are correct sir!!!!

Jets QB Pennington throws in passing drills

NFL.com wire reports

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (May 31, 2006) -- Chad Pennington threw for a second straight day at the Jets' passing camp May 31, another encouraging sign in his comeback from a second major shoulder injury.

Pennington participated in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills May 30, the first day of organized team activities. He did the same May 31, indicating he had no major setbacks from his first team practice since last September.

The franchise quarterback is taking small steps in his rehab from his second right shoulder injury. He started throwing in March, but the organized activities provide him with a chance to do some live action drills with teammates.

A bigger test comes June 15, when the Jets start their veteran minicamp. Pennington has said he will be ready for the start of the season in September.

After tearing his right rotator cuff in November 2004, Pennington played through the injury and had surgery the following February. But he got hurt again last September and missed the final 13 games of the season.

It is unclear if his arm strength will ever be the same or whether he will be the starter in 2006. The Jets traded for Patrick Ramsey and also drafted Kellen Clemens in the second round.

Running back Curtis Martin, coming off surgery on his right knee in December, also practiced.

The Jets made several moves, signing veteran cornerback Ray Mickens, along with wide receiver Reggie Newhouse and cornerback Rayshun Reed.

The 5-foot-8 Mickens was selected by the Jets in the third round of the 1996 draft but was released by the team last August. At the time of his release, he was the longest-tenured member of the Jets' defense and trailed only wide receiver Wayne Chrebet (11 years) for the longest stint with the team.

He played the 2005 season with the Cleveland Browns, recording 30 tackles, recovering one fumble and defending 13 passes.

The Jets also waived quarterback Kliff Kingsbury and cornerback James Taylor.

Again, I disagree with your pick. As you were busy building your case against Charlie Frye stating that you didn't like the weapons he had around him, did you bother to think of the guys Pennington will have? Also, Pennington is done in this league. I don't see his shoulder ever being the same.

Why at this point in the draft are you passing on an up and comer for a never was?

Wow - so you think Leinart will be on the WW in a 20 round draft? didn't you just get through telling us in that league topic that EVERYONE who has potential will get drafted?

And as for Pennington, I think you're doing exactly the right thing by selecting yet another injury prone player with very little talent around him, who's coming off of a second rotator cuff surgery when one is usually career ending, and had a noodle arm to begin with.

I think the most difficult thing about fantasy football is the lack of predictibility - you've solved that here nicely with Pennington, since we know exactly where he'll be by week 4....the PUP. :( nice going, and I applaud the pick - after all, when I look at a roster with Palmer, DJax, CMart, RMoss, and Warner, the 1st thing I think is, "wow - now if only he can add one more guy who's arm or leg is holding on by a shoestring, he'll be a shoe-in for a championship run."

Why, Palmer's upside is so great they're already preparing his rehab schedule for after his 3rd surgery.

What a waste of a pick.

One man's opinion.

I prefer Pennington's weapons - Coles, McCareins compared to Joe J/Dennis N. It is crap vs crap, but he is more proven. And like I said, I can drop him and pick up a Alex Smith or Leinart if I really want.

And scooter - no, Leinart is not yet drafted. Neither is Alex Smith, neither is Joey H (you know the person who will start most likely in Miami because Culpepper might not be ready). Lots of crap still left at starting QB :(

And there is one more, if Palmer's schedule to start is delayed, I can always still pick up Anthony Wright (Bengals starter). He does have weapons too....better than any of the others.

Scooter - BTW this was posted on FBG bored, but by someone who is a qualified person wrt ACLs. Just pointing out what people feel about Palmer.

==============

This is a thread about a QB returning to the field of play by the beginning of next season. I was merely saying that the average ACL rehab for an athlete is 6 months before they can return to full contact sport. A return to sport does not necessitate a return to previous abilities, only that they can return and play without any additional risk. By additional risk, I mean that (in football for instance) there is always a risk, even when their is no injury history. When someone can return to sport, their body is ready to go, they then need to expand their own specific skillsets via practice and time spent on the field to return to the levels of performance prior to the injury. Whether or not you believe that 6 months is a reasonable amount of time to rehab an ACL injury is entirely up to you. However...

I am a physical therapist and I have anywhere between 3-5 ACL patients at any given time. I did work on a 13 year old who injured her leg in October '04, surgery in November, and was playing soccer when the snow melted in the spring. Was she as agile and as confident in her leg as she had been before? Of course not, but she was playing and probably took another few months to gain the agility she once possessed prior to injury. Her leg was fully healed, stronger than before her injury and she was ready to play. This particular girl was discharged from therapy after 5 months and 1 week post-op. The average patient at my facility is returning to previous levels of function after 6 months. Laugh all you like, but it happens. Here are some protocols that I found via Google. I am not in favor of protocols personally as they are inflexible, but they provide an outline of the rehab schedule after surgery.

"But you aren't working with professional athletes"

As far as athletes are concerned, you need to remember that rehab is their FT job. They are not like the traditional weekend warrior who busts up their knee, but still has to put 50-60 hours of work weekly and sqeeze in rehab 2-3 times per week. For people to compare their own experiences on this board with their own knees is applicable, but not effective. The quality of surgeons, rehab personel, and the time that professional athletes are afforded to rehab their bodies is unparalleled. The competitive athlete can make it back in 6 months.

The difficulty in postulating how well they will perform on the field after rehab, because there are so many different factors that contribute to that players success. These include confidence, psychology, work ethic, and especially the requirements of the position they play. Those whose positions rely more on agility (i.e. RBs) certainly seem to have more difficulty returning to "form" and need more time to get back to where they were....but they are still on the field in approx 6 months.

My contention is that Carson Palmer will likely be ready for next season (following 6 months of rehab). I do not think that agility should be a large factor in his success in the pocket, and therefore I wouldn't hesitate to take him in a re-draft league.

Hope this is helpful to those pondering the Palmer question moving forward into the 2006-07 season.

If training camp/mini camp reports say he is done or that Ramsey will start anyways, then I can drop Pennington and pick up one of:

Alex Smith

Matt Leinart

Charlie Frye

Wright (Palmer's back up assuming Palmer's reports say he is delayed too)

Ramsey himself

Maybe one or 2 more of these options may disappear with one round to go in the draft. But I will have 1 or 2 options still.

If training camp/mini camp reports say he is done or that Ramsey will start anyways, then I can drop Pennington and pick up one of:

Alex Smith

Matt Leinart

Charlie Frye

Wright (Palmer's back up assuming Palmer's reports say he is delayed too)

Ramsey himself

why take a risk on pennington? he can only throw about 15 yards, and has no umph behind the ball. i would have taken another position player that was more likely to succeed. i dont like chad's chances.

i recognize that these last copule picks will probably be dropped and added a number of times, but i just dont see the upside with this pick here. i dont see anything that will happen that could possibly make pennington valuable in fantasy football this year. but with guys like green, bryant johnson, and henry, all it takes is one big injury or bust and they are starting and suddenly top 6-7 round value. i would just much rather have something like that on my roster over the summer, but just a diff of opinion here. finish these last picks strong. and thanks for sharing, its been fun. if youre interested, im in the 5th round of my own draft and have been posting some stuff about it on my own post. take a look if you like.

I cannot believe you just passed on Matt Leinart for Chad Pennington. Im changing the name our league now to the "Chad Pennington is the 7th injury prone player Ive chosen for my team" league. My goodness. Sweet, I hope youre not sandbagging at this point just to mislead the rest of us into thinking youre going to be drafting this poorly in our league. Here are last year's wk 4 and 5 stat lines for the BACKUP QB in Arizona .......382yds 2TDs, 397yds 2TDs. Weeks 4 and 5.....Sam Houston State's own Josh McCown.....the golden boy of SH State. He was a BMOC there I bet. Seriously, do you think Pennington can drop those #s throwing to Coles and McCareins?? Im gonna pencil you in as a great ally to make trades with come week 7 or 8 in our other league, as your season begins to wind down. Keep me on the short list of guys to deal away atleast one of your top running backs. Just saying the name "Chad Pennington" makes me want to go soak my arm in ice and eat a possum salad.

........Pennington?

Wow you just picked the least durable QB. Guess you didnt care for anything most of us said huh?

That's ridiculous. You been boozin' it up man?

Picked up Chris Henry with my last pick....THANK YOU VERY MUCH Da Bomb....that was very good advice....6 TDs as a rookie and he was the guy who caught that 66 yard bomb against Steelers

Also, Matt Leinart is still available. So is Alex Smith. So if Chad looks like he is done in minicamp etc I can still get the other QB.

Final rosters are set....here ya go folks. What do ya think?
