The Fantasy GM Rules

Recommended Posts

1. NEVER BENCH YOUR STUDS.

2. Know the rules and settings of your league.

3. If you can't play, you can't play for me. (Durability is important).

4. RB's must play everydown, especially your RB1. SA is an exception

5. Don't fall in love with players, know when to cut bait.

6. When in doubt, pick TE's with good running games. (Gates, Gonzo, Crump, Cooley, etc)

7. Draft Best Player Available, sort it out later.

8. No WR deserves to be a WR1, if they haven't done it for at least 2 years.

9. Stay away from RBs over 30 at your RB1 spot.

10. If one of your 2 RB's is over 30, draft a good backup. If you have 2 over 30...PRAY.

11. Oustide of yards and TD's at WR spot, Targets are a very important stat.

12. Have 2 good QB's, not having a decent backup can kill your season.

13. Tom Brady is the only NE player worth drafting.

14. Corey Dillon is a fantasy heartbreaker, soon to be replaced by Kevin Jones, Dom Davis, and Chris Brown...see Rule #3.

15. Draft is winding down, you have 3 picks left...draft your K and Defense.

16. The only matchup that matters late in the season...Weather.

17. Stay away from RB's coming off major leg injuries. QB's with arm/shoulder injuries.

18. Never trade into a RBBC.

19. Do your homework

20. Disinformation is king in all leagues, plant seeds of doubt.

21. Try to come away with the best player in all trades.

This is a start, please add yours...

22. Wait on drafting a QB. There's plenty to go around.

23. Matchups. Pay close attention to schedule (and weather) when making lineup decisions.

Used that logic last year. Passed on Tiki at the 1.10. Regretted it all year long

odds are against RB's over 30. Tiki had a career year, skipping on one player shouldn't kill your season.

Factor Offensive Line Changes into your RB rankings....it matters

Don't rely just on last years stats...coaching changes, schema changes and personell changes all change the stats of every player on the offense

One Injury filled year does not equal injury prone 2+ years start to worry

Strength of schedule matters

There are no hard and fast rules for successful team building.

Be smart and be flexible. People who don't draft QB's early were burned when they passed on

Culpepper in '04 for a underachieving runner. People who hate RB's over 30 would have missed Barber in the past and several good Emmitt Smith seasons.

I make projections for each year, and then build a cheat sheet and a VORP strategy based on that.

Weather is overrated. Only talke weather into account in hurricane conditions and for kickers.

The point is not to overthink matchups late in the season. Weather should be the only thing accounted for late in the season.

For kickers and position players: a few games come to mind

ATL @ CHI last year

Always take a QB from a team who's defense is terrible. Those teams tend to shoot it out, which only means more opportunities for the QB to put up monster points (see the early years of Daunte Culpepper).

Helps to have an uber-stud WR like Randy Moss, too.

So you started Alex Smith, JP Losman, and Brooks Bollinger on most of your fantasy teams last year?

Might want to change that to QB's with terrible defences that have some kind of supporting cast to throw to (and some talent of their own).

Even worse, you could have ended up with Donovan McNabb last year given their crappy D.

That's for you Eagles fan.

dont forget aaron brooks and joey harrington and even trent dilfer. david carr also. well Ghost i know what u are trying to say, and sometimes ur theory can work greatly...but most of the time, it doesnt.

alot of the time bad defenses = bad team, so ur theory couldnt work. but with the old daunte culpepper and even the marc bulger (when health) this was true. Teams with bad defenses are never always a bad team, but definitely dont make their teams QB sky rocket in fantasy value.

ashley lelie will NEVER have a breakout season

fred taylor is guaranteed to break your heart during the season

rookie RBs will breakdown during the season

sit back and smile when the run on Ds and Ks starts in your draft

goaline backs are better free agent pickups during midseason then a weekly replacement for your starting RB

There are 3 consistent TEs in the league, the rest are as interchangeable and variable as Ds and Ks

The worst pick in a draft to have is the 1st pick

Go with your gut because in the end a lot of this game comes down to luck with injuries, matchups, and NFL parody.

NEVER make fun of another owners team out loud or your team will be cursed until you apologize to him. It happened to a guy in one of my leagues!!
