Deshaun Foster

Recommended Posts

I don't believe the Deangelo Williams hype at least this year because Foster was given starter money. My only concern is will Fox pull Foster out at the goal-line? Oh yeah, the injuries are another concern but that's not the question i'm asking.

not sure, we will have to see i guess. I assume it will go to foster or maybe even goings.

Foster is definitely big enough and I think Goings is the fullback. I heard Shelton was in danger of being released so I doubt he will have any effect on Foster. When I look at the players I want, I look at teams first. Carolina is going to be real good this year, that is what makes Foster look so enticing on a run first team.

With his injury history and the presence of capable guys in Shelton, Goings, and D.Williams, it makes sense that some of these guys will be worked into goal-line, short-yardage, and third-down situations. Foster just isn't a 300-carry, feature-back guy. I'd take him as a Flex or RB3.

I think Foster will do his work between the 20s. Shelton or Williams with get goalline/3rd down. Foster just can't hold up on 300+ carries. This season he'll get the yardarge but the TDs will be weak.

I disagree, Williams for sure will not be the goal-line back. Deshaun Foster is bigger than Deangelo and Shelton might not make the team. Personally, I think Foster runs them in with Goings as fullback. My only thing is if I drafted Foster, Williams would be my next pick to have a lock on that running game.

Probably means nothing now, but... back in May the Panthers were talking about having Shelton fill the role of goal-line and short yardage back.

1. Brad Hoover is the FB in CAR. Don't look for him to steal anything from anyone though, Fox doesn't really utilize the FB as a playmaker in his O-scheme.

2. Shelton is NOT in danger of getting cut from the team, at 6-3 and 248 he is the biggest RB on the team. He had a foot injury that kept him out all last year, his rookie year. He is not in favor w/ the coaching staff right now though, but they are not going to cut their 2nd rd. pick from just last year w/o seeing what he can actually do. He will most likely be a reserve back that gets limited action unless there is a major injury or he can manage to win the gl job that SDavis performed last year. He may also be used as the backup FB ahead of Casey Cramer. I wouldn't draft him expecting anything at this point.

3. Goings may be used as a FB occassionally as well, and has proven that he can produce on the field when given the opportunity. But there is a reason CAR drafted DWilliams in the first when they already had Foster, Goings & Shelton on the team. The job is Foster's (for now), w/ DWilliams playing 2nd fiddle until further notice.

4. DWilliams may wind up returning punts and kicks unless SSmith lobbies hard to keep the job. This would be the most immediate way to get him touches during a game until Foster goes down.

bottom line, Foster is the only guy worth drafting to be a starter at the beginning of the season. Obviously DWilliams and Goings are next in line, with Shelton only having value in TD only leagues....

They did have 7 RBs w/ playing time last year, so it's not unreasonable to believe they will be going in w/ 6 on their roster this year. Just cross off He Hate Me, Jamal Robertson and SDavis and insert DWilliams and EShelton...

Good assessment. again i've been seeing Foster going in the 4th with D.Williams going in the 5th or 6th rounds, saying if I were to pick D.Foster, then picking D.Williams would come right after that.

unfortunately i think DWilliams is another product of the rookie hype machine that people are going to be taking way too early... Personally i may be willing to spend a 4th on Foster depending on what falls to me and how things play out because i know he can put up big numbers if he stays healthy. However, i don't like reaching for DWilliams even in the 6th, where you'd be lucky to get him. In a redraft format i just don't think he has that much value this year until Foster gets hurt. Most of my leagues are keeper/dynasty, so i'm really hoping someone else takes DWilliams early and then gets tired of waiting around for him to get the pt needed to make him a viable FF option so i can trade for him for slightly less than what i think his value will be next season...

Problem is, that's alot of wishful thinking. I'm in a keeper league as well with this year having Alexander as my keeper. We can only keep 1 player for 1 year. I'm hoping having both Foster and Williams will guarantee me a good keeper for next year with the hopes of the situation playing itself out this year. Kinda what Priest owners had to do with LJ last year. Someone said that Foster wasn't a 300 carry back. He did have something like 236 last year. Also, I think this is Foster's last chance to prove he is a featured back that can stay healthy, if he does that Williams will be in his shadow as long as Foster produces.

Shelton is a beast, he's making the team, and he'll be the goalline back....let's not beat his value down too low......for God's sake, how late do people want to get the guy?

I think alot of you guys are counting D Williams out a bit early. This guy was drafted in rd1 for a reason and I seriously doubt it was to warm the bench for a very fragile foster.

I can't see them giving him the goal-line work. They'll want to keep him fresh for the end of the season, so they should avoid the pounding he'll take on short-yardage and goal line situations. Why subject him to that? He hasn't shown that he's a great short-yardage back in previous years (granted Davis was around), and there's plenty of other bodies on the roster to take the pounding.

I can see a Warrick Dunn type of year for Foster, which is pretty good. Lots of yardage, not many TD's.

I agree, no way I am taking foster in the 4th or earlier, that said no way I am taking Williams in the 6th either. They can basically cut foster next year with the contract he signed and not lose much at all, Williams will see the field alot more than some people are expecting imo.

I have to decide between keeping Foster for a 6th round pick OR Willie Parker for an 11th round pick.

:first:

No brainer, keep FWP

FWP, as i expect both to see the same amount of TDs and probably yds too. Why not take the cheaper option?

Foster will produce like an absolute BEAST...

:shocking:

...for 4 games, then he'll go out for the season w/ his 4 consecutive season ending injury...
