schentai 0 Posted July 24, 2006 First off, I'm not worrying that LT will have a horid season because of Rivers, just wanted some thougths on this. I'm sorry if this has been posted before, I just got onto the forums for the season. I've honestly never really had a chance watch Rivers play on any level, nor am I aware of what his progress is thus far. Because of that I really don't know what to expect of him, and what effect he may or may not have on LT's numbers. I'm currently sitting at #3 in our draft and am pretty sure LT will come to me based upon the owners picking before me (They'll go LJ, Alexander) and I've been given the opportunity to trade down via a pretty decent offer. Are we looking at another 1800 yard season from LT or better due to more dump-offs coming his way (ppr league) or will the presence of Rivers limit him in the running game due to defenses stacking against the run? I'm not looking for extremes here, just some perspectives.
SmartassBoiler 0 Posted July 24, 2006 I don't see any reason why LT can't post top 3 numbers with Rivers there. Brees didn't really extend the field or pose a huge threat as a QB, but he was a smart player who executed the gameplan well. Rivers will have some growing pains, but I don't see any reason why he can't come somewhere close to what Brees did while there. That being said, LT will probably be given more carries this year as a result, which is something that should help his fantasy value. While Brees was there, all teams were focused on stopping LT anyways.
Camisado 0 Posted July 24, 2006 i think he will have a decent year but defences will put 8 in the box andsee what he can do
remote controller 143 Posted July 24, 2006 He will be relied on even more, especially at the start of the season.
Mack 1 6 Posted July 24, 2006 Like 'Boiler stated, LT still produced even when Brees stunk up the joint during his first couple years as a starter. Rivers being the starter should have no adverse affect on LT's production.
Ilov80s 0 Posted July 24, 2006 At this point there are only two things that will diminish LT's value and production: an injury and physical breakdown from the incredible amount of work he has received in his career.
desertfire 4 Posted July 24, 2006 The person I'm worried about is A. Gates. I don't see anyway that he comes close to the numbers he put up the last two seasons.
JT 137 Posted July 24, 2006 The person I'm worried about is A. Gates. I don't see anyway that he comes close to the numbers he put up the last two seasons. I would tend to disagree with this. Gates is a beast, a matchup nightmare, and TE is often the safety net for a young, inexperienced QB. I wouldn't touch a Chargers WR, but I don't see Gates missing a beat. SD trusted Brees near the goal line to throw the ball when necessary. It'll take a little time for Rivers to earn that trust. Thus, he'll be closer to the 2nd tier TEs than he's being drafted. Parja 0 Posted July 24, 2006 The person I'm worried about is A. Gates. I don't see anyway that he comes close to the numbers he put up the last two seasons. Gates has really hurt LTs receiving numbers...a trend I don't see changing. With Gates around, he's got a ceiling of about 50-55 receptions. Sure, nothing to be ashamed of, but I think some people are having dreams of the 100 reception, nearly 2400 total yard season of 2003.
