Boston 0 Posted August 20, 2006 Very pleased so far: *Dillon-Maroney-Faulk really has the potential to be a top tier backfield. I'm interested to see how the Cobbs kid looks in the second half. With Pass banged up there's an opening. *Watson is going to have a big year. *Very encouraged with Banta Cain's play. If he can play well it would greatly aid their biggest exposure. There's been some recent hype about him in the media and it's good to see it translate to game action. *The longer the Pats wait on extending Samuel the more it will cost them. CB's always get overpaid in free agency and Samuel will be no different next year if the Pats don't take care of him now. He's not an All Pro but he's a quality player who knows how to make a big play. *They weren't long ones but there was no doubt Ski's FG's were going down the middle. *Overall the Pats WR corps really needs Branch and Jax there. Caldwell is in over his head right now. He can help but he's nothing special. Even with those two this unit will not blow up but they really lack depth without those two. *I've been intrigued by Childress since last preseason. Good to see him make a few good catches. He could stick as their #5. *Only been a few plays but Leinart looks very comfortable out there. Especially for a guy who's missed most of camp. He's got some wheels too. *That Arizona O line won't be doing Edge-Fitz-Boldin-Warner any favors this year.
TD Ryan2 316 Posted August 20, 2006 Bam's a little guy but it'd be nice to see him make the team. Did Leinart think the play was over after he slid on that second scramble? As he was getting up one of the NE defenders did tap him but Leinart really looked like he thought the play was over before being touched... he was getting up completely defenseless. Dillon has more "pop" back this year. It was nice to see Faulk hold on to the ball. Making big plays like this is nothing new for Kevin and did they line him up in the slot once or twice?\ Also, Troy Brown isn't playing. When I was at camp, Troy was clearly the #1 WR. Does Reche wear contacts? Are they all dried up or something because he kept giving a wide-eyed, no-blink stare early on.

He's running much harder than he did last year. Last year he didn't have that "pop" you're refering too. Unlike last year even his runs that aren't productive are physical. That was really missing last year. He probably won't be the 04 Dillon but it looks like he won't be the 05 Dillon either. Something inbetween combining with Maroney and Faulk is just fine with me. TD Ryan2 316 Posted August 20, 2006 *Leinart probably forgot it's not college and the play goes on until you're touched. exactly. I saw him getting up like it was over and I was cringing... agree with Dillon being somewhere in between '04 and '05. I really think he's enjoying the twilight of his career now; he's enjoying football. The chip is gone for the most part.

That's a big plus because that could have been a problem. *The Pats should have a veteran QB on their roster. There's no reason not too. I like Cassell's potential but I can't say I'm comfortable with him at #2. Even if I was I'd still want a veteran at #3.

TD Ryan2 316 Posted August 20, 2006 I think Garrett Mills and David Thomas are the same person. yup. big white guy.\ vacuum cleaner hands. this is how I remember: Dave Thomas = Tim Dwight (#86)

TD Ryan2 316 Posted August 20, 2006 nice to see some sp. teams play. it's often overlooked, but SP teams in one are where NE should be improved. They used to make a living off big sp teams plays and that's gone away a bit over the last couple years. maybe we'll be back to more of an '01 style here. ETA. also file under big white guys who can catch... Heath Evans.

TD Ryan2 316 Posted August 20, 2006 On a fantasy note, Im thinking Troy Brown is a great sleeper #5 wr. I'm not ready to say great sleeper, but he's worth a spot on a roster. His odds of staying healthy aren't too great. but right now, I agree that he's been overlooked. He's the #1 WR in NE until either: Branch or CJackson shows up or Reche "gets it". DBZFan2K 0 Posted August 20, 2006 Yup, Belichick is going to torch Warfield alive for that fumble.
Boston 0 Posted August 20, 2006 Can't ask for much more than that out of a preseason game. Nothing but positives.
z00g 0 Posted August 20, 2006 it's often overlooked, but SP teams in one are where NE should be improved. Oh really? Define "improvement upon Adam Vinatieri" and I'll believe you. I can't speak for the rest of special teams, but the kicker position has got to have HUGE ??'s coming into the season.
Ignignokt 0 Posted August 20, 2006 Very pleased so far: *Dillon-Maroney-Faulk really has the potential to be a top tier backfield. Seriously...forgetting FF for a moment, between Dillon's power (which he s/b able to maintain w/ Maroney & Faulk keeping him fresh), Maroney's burst, and Faulk's underrated 3rd-down play (showed nice burst last night too), the NE backfield looks really strong so far. It's a really nice mix. All three bring a little something different. Between those three and a healthy O line the Pats ground attack should be pretty potent this year. It will help compensate for what looks right now to be a pretty average WR unit.

Boston 0 Posted August 20, 2006 you should suffer the consequences of a permanent lifetime ban for ever uttering that statement... If he had even dared to mention a RB's blocking skills or ability to pick up a blitz the fantasy police would have knocked his door down by now.
jerryskids 6,798 Posted August 20, 2006 *Leinart probably forgot it's not college and the play goes on until you're touched. *The play was over when he slid. When the QB gives himself up the refs call it. Also, any player can intentionally go down and call timeout without being touched.

This is huge. I am loving the running game this year. I hadn't bought a Pats jersey in a while, so I went and picked up a Maroney jersey last weekend. I'm happy. Patriotsfatboy1 1,432 Posted August 21, 2006 Some observations sitting in the stands: - Dillon looked much quicker than last year. Probably injury-related, but you never know - Maroney looks quicker than Dillon and very shifty - Faulk is quicker than the both of them, but no one trusts him to hold onto the ball - Gostkowski looked good on kickoffs and FG's - The run defense looked MUCH better than last week. Not sure whether that means anything - Nice hand for Seau when they showed him on the Jumbotron - WTF is the poll for a new theme song when a TD is scored. Gary Glitter molested little kids and they want to pick a new song. I think that they will be disappointed regardless of what they choose - It is much better to be watching the Pats in preseason than the Sox in regular season
