GhostofMeanMachine99 1 Posted August 30, 2006 This has just been reported by Gary Cobb, who is speaking from Eagles camp on 610 WIP. Todd Pinkston and Koy Detmer have been cut. It's also being reported that AJ Feeley could be returning to Philly as their #3 QB. And no, Miami doens't get their 2nd round pick back.
mggoilers 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Is it news when a placeholder gets cut? or a well below average WR? Wastes of roster space anyway
jocstrap 8 Posted August 30, 2006 Stallworth - Movin' on up
josh wiley 77 Posted August 30, 2006 now i am an eagles fan, but how did stinkston and detmer avoid workouts and remain on the team that long. i have larger biceps than stinkston and i know that aint saying much.
Force of Two 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Eagles signed Feely to a two year deal per their website. Not that Feely is a world beater but he is better than Detmer so I like the move....
MDC 8,128 Posted August 30, 2006 I read today that the Eagles gave Pinkston permission to seek a trade. My first thought was, "Who the fock is going to trade anything for Pinkston?"
GhostofMeanMachine99 1 Posted August 30, 2006 I read today that the Eagles gave Pinkston permission to seek a trade. My first thought was, "Who the fock is going to trade anything for Pinkston?" That was Pinky's agent telling Len Pasquarelli. If the Eagles were actually letting him seek a trade, then they only gave him about an hour and a half to do so. It's also a rumor but the Eagles will also be cutting Jabar Gaffney. If that happens (along with Bloom being IR'ed), here's what they got: Stallworth R. Brown Baskett G. Lewis J. Avant D. McCants I think they keep McCants because he's a good special teams player. Since they traded Simoneau, they're moving Jason Short back to LB. They also cut Adrienn Clarke and Greg Richmond (both guys had back surgery). Richmond's a LB, which probably means that Gocong may be on the active roster when the season starts (even though he's hurt).

That's all it took for 31 GMs to tell Reid they're not interested. Still not wild about their receiving corps but it's better with Stallworth than it was without him. Maybe it's Reggie Brown, but sooner or later they've got to develop a young WR who stays with the team for awhile. Philly has had bad luck with that position and it seems like McNabb gets an entirely new WR corps every few years. Simoneau was good depth but they more than made up for his loss by adding a WR. One of these days Reid needs to learn to respect the RB, WR and LB positions.
Byars41 0 Posted August 30, 2006 if they bring back Feeley does that mean Tommy Chang will be cut too i think Gaffney will get the axe as well, as noted, at least McCants is good on special teams.
gottabesweet84 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Good post, What's the deal with Avant how is he looking.
shasha 0 Posted August 30, 2006 They added depth with someone that I don't really like, but I will agree that it is a major upgrade over Pinkston. Gaffney is pretty craptastic too, I was surprised that he was in camp at all. But the only thing that I have to say about them getting rid of these two is that it is about time. Detmer has never played well at anytime and Pinkston has just been an anorexic bust. I did hear that Andy Reid was seeking a ham sandwich or burger for Pinkston, but nobody thought that he was worth it.
famousb 11 Posted August 30, 2006 Simoneau was good depth but they more than made up for his loss by adding a WR. wasn't Simoneau their emergency kicker too? nothing better than watching an LB run up and kick a ball... think Reid will carry 2 Ks to every game this year, or does their punter hold back-up field goal duties now? Byars41 0 Posted August 30, 2006 Good post, What's the deal with Avant how is he looking. i've heard Avant has been solid in camp. he'll be on the roster but don't expect much from him. he may play some in the slot.
famousb 11 Posted August 30, 2006 But the only thing that I have to say about them getting rid of these two is that it is about time. Detmer has never played well at anytime the best part about Detmer was watching him flop around like a fish a few years back when he dislocated his elbow. Not that i wish injury on anyone, or enjoy watching someone get hurt, but that was just funny...
GhostofMeanMachine99 1 Posted August 30, 2006 i've heard Avant has been solid in camp. he'll be on the roster but don't expect much from him. he may play some in the slot. Avant will be a good slot receiver once he completely picks up the offense. He runs good routes, has very good hands, and more importantly, works hard and plays hard. He basically outplayed Gaffney during camp.

Wait, who now? Timmy Chang or Tommy Chong? How much would it suck to be 25 years old and people still refer to you as Timmy?

One of these days Reid needs to learn to respect the RB, WR and LB positions. I agree to an extent. The RB situation really scares me. If there was a promise that Buckhalter will hold up, I wouldn't be as concerned as I am. With the LBs, I disagree. The defensive scheme says that the front four needs to be the strength of the defense. The front four's responsibility is to keep guys off the LBs, and to get a pass rush on the QB and take the pressure off of the DBs. That was a glaring fact last year. Trotter and McCoy will be fine this year. Barber as the nickel backer will be fine. The questions surrounding the LBs are Dhani Jones and the depth. No one has any kind of depth at LB in the NFL thanks to the cap, so it really boils down to Dhani Jones. If the dee-line plays up to expectations, Jones will not be exposed like he was last season. Byars41 0 Posted August 30, 2006 speaking of RBs, i wonder if the Eagles would take a look at Eric Shelton from Carolina once he gets cut. i know he's been nothing but a disappointment for the Panthers but he was good enough for them to use a 2nd round pick on last year. and at 246 lbs could be short yardage back. according to sportsline - he's sure to get looks from other clubs if he is cut (Jacksonville and Indianapolis are two possible destinations).
