***Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers***

Recommended Posts

Its Bears/Packers week baby.....

Lets kick the season off with a bang. Thumbs up to the schedule makers for making the opening weekend so great with this great rivalry.

Now for the truth: Bears will lay the smack down on the packers. I actually feel bad for Favre in this one...

I don't think Favre will have a bad game because he'll be passing a lot. I can see his passing yardage totals being decent with at least 1 or 2 Td's.

I also think this is a game where T.Jones should put up very nice numbers.

27 - 17 Bears

Well, there is definately cause for concern by any Packer backers. I was optomistic until I saw the preseason games. Colledge was brought in to start at the guard position and after one preseason game was demoted to backup. Tauscher and Cliffton on the ends are veterans and should be fine if healthy. However, Moll, Wells, and Spitz in the middle is very scary. Moll and Spitz are rookies and Wells was a fill in for Flanagan last year at center. Ferguson was demoted to the 3rd receiver. He can't be happy and there is alot of pressure on another rookie, Jennings to perform. Only four wide receivers on the team and 2 are rookies. Why keep four tight ends? Who is managing this mess? Also, why cut Najah Davenport when he filled in nicely last year until he got hurt. If Green goes down via injury, Noah Herron is the #2 man now. Herron is cutable material. Gado is 3rd on the list and we've already seen what he can provide. Maybe Arliss Beach will produce and he can catch the ball out of the backfield and he doesn't fumble. But can Beach stay injury free?

Was demoting Ben Taylor to 2nd string linebacker wise? Ben Taylor did a pretty good job with Cleveland last year and was somewhat proven. There is rookie punter with no backup and a 2nd year kicker with no backup.

I don't think the Bears are superbowl bound, but the Packers look like a mess. So, due to poor decision making and lack of organization, I'd say the Bears will beat the Packers in Lambeau this Sunday.

You sure look at things differently than I do. A 4-12 team better have a lot of rookies and new faces on it. Najah Davenport could not be counted on, Ferguson is lucky he is on the team, happy or not he got his butt kicked by a rookie. I am looking for steady improvement from the team this year nothing more. The pressure is on the Bears, if they lose to GB it really puts a damper on their season. Is anyone really picking GB straight up?

By the way, best rivalry this year will be Philly - Dallas.

Couldn't believe this so I did some searches

Packers started in 1919

Bears in 1920

Raiders in 1960

Cheifs in 1963

Unless your talking about the AFL the Bears and Pack have been around a lot longer and are the best rivalry in football.

GO BEARS!

Washington Dallas? As far as rivalries, Cowboys and Redskins have been fighting much longer then Bears and Packers. Packers only emerged in the late 80's

Washington Dallas? As far as rivalries, Cowboys and Redskins have been fighting much longer then Bears and Packers. Packers only emerged in the late 80's

With 168 regular-season encounters to date behind them, the Packers and Bears are "partners" in the most prolific rivalry in NFL history, having met more often than any other two teams in league annals.

The Bears--who still lead the series (84-78-6) despite Green Bay's 19-3 advantage over the past 11 seasons--also are involved in the second most prolific series in NFL history.

The Monsters of the Midway and the Detroit Lions have clashed on 152 occasions, the Bears having won 85 of those, the Lions 62 and there have been 5 ties.

Next up numerically are the New York Giants and Washington Redskins, who have met 145 times, followed by the Redskins and Philadelphia Eagles, who have squared off in 141 games.

Just for the record, the Giants lead their series with the Redskins, 82-59-4...and their series with the Eagles 74-65-2.

The Bears, incidentally, own a share of the oldest rivalry in NFL annals. They launched their series against the then Chicago (now Arizona) Cardinals in 1920, the year the league was founded as the American Professional Football Conference.

Maybe they haven't been fighting as long but this is off of packers.com. I'll let the numbers speak for themselves.

Still the best rivalry in football, no question. It would be nice if both these teams could be good at the same time, though. It's been a long time since the two teams met as equals. It seems when one of them is up, the other is down.

Packers / Bears is almost always a great game regardless of the respective teams' record / expectations. I'll never forget when little Chester Marcol ran a blocked FG in for a TD to beat the mid-1980's Bear juggernaut!

Unfortunately the Packers' opening day roster is over 50% rookies and first year players; like several posters in this thread they'll have no idea of the importance of the rivalry. I'll keep my chin up, but I'm hard pressed to predict a Packer victory. :pointstosky:

P.S. Wasn't SD supposed to stay out of all Packer-related threads?

a few years ago the Bears won the division at 13-3 and the Pack was 12-4 and beat the Bears twice.

are you kindly ignoring gale sayers and ###### butkus?...paul hornung and ray nitschke?..

jim mcmahon wearing a bears jersey to the White House with the packers? the packers ignoring anything Jim said or did?

charles martin slamming jim mcmahon to the ground and ending his career?...ken stills running matt suhey out of bounds and over the bench?...

it was the first thing that lovie said he was set to do...beat GB...its #1 on McCarthys list as well...

the 20s my friend...no rivalry tops it....

i wouldnt worry about favre getting hurt..he hasnt missed a game ever..and hes been at it since 92...

grossman and griese are the 2 that Id keep an eye on..grossman could get hurt on a simple run and slide and griese could get drunk and trip over his dog at home again....

Yea, some people in this thread are picking GB straight up. I'll admit the pressure is on Chicago, and Green Bay has had the blue print on how to beat them the whole offseason. Delhomme and Smith completely depantsed Charles "Burnt Toast" Tillman. I don't see why Farve and Driver can't do the same thing. But there are so many other question marks on Green Bay that even if they get the lead, it'll be hard to play consistent for 4 quarters without making huge game busting rookie mistakes.

If we had the O Line of a few years back I think we'd win the Div.

The Bears shred every O Line and ours will be like a chainsaw through hot butter....

If they play anywhere near decent i think we have a chance....

for two weeks--which ended 10 days ago. try to keep up ;)

look: i'm not a bear fan, either. i hate that any one of these teams will win a game sunday. but i'm telling you that the bear d-line against that awful o-line is going to be UGLY. i wasn't kidding when i said it'll be a victory for the packers if the favre simply survives this game.

the only remotely remote hope is for the packers to run quick slants all game--cause anything more than a 3-step drop and favre is going to be drilled. every time.

if you had the o-line of a few years back--and the running game, and the wrs, and reggie, and the good and young favre, and the kicking game, and the coaching, and...

well, you get the idea. there is more than a couple of guards and a center that separate the packers today from the packers teams of "a few years ago."

This is laughable...

I will tell you why Favre and Driver cant do that, because Favre wont be able to see Driver from the bottom of the pile.

Also for future reference please dont insult Steve Smith again by comparing him to Donald Driver thx....

That Bears team was a fraud. They caught lightning in a bottle and the next year they were exposed for what they really were.

I think this Bears team is actually fairly good. It may be a couple years before the Packer can catch up. Hopefully the Pack can steal one though.
