Waiver Wire Darlings after week 1

Recommended Posts

Michael Jenkins - I don't think we can count on Vick to be consistent every week, and his TD was after breaking a tackle and burning down the sideline. Running the ball is still the first option in the redzone. I recommend a pass on Jenkins.

Jerricho Cotchery - Not only did he catch 6 passes for 65 in a touchdown but he was targeted 12 times and had a second redzone TD called back. 3rd year receiver. This could be Marty Booker of a couple years ago. Warrants picking up, but temper the enthusiasm. This performance was against the Titans, so no need to drop someone good for him. I'd consider dropping guys of a Keenan McCardell level and below (disclaimer: I'm assuming Shotty will continue to keep RIvers on a tight leash), a third QB, a backup kicker/defense, or something like that.

Reggie Williams - I wouldn't go to crazy over Reggie. He caught his TD on a fade route, but all of the Jags receivers are big so that fade can go to anyone. Plus the Jags offense just isn't that spectacular.

Marques Colston - I think he could be the real deal, but there is only one ball and he has to share it with Horn, Bush, and McAllister. I also don't think he's a big play threat. If you really need a guy, I won't make fun of you for picking him up, but I surely wouldn't drop any value to pick him up. After he has a good game against GB next week, the sharks will be circling, though. :ninja:

Bernard Berrian - This offense isn't a verticle offense, and Berrian is a verticle receiver. Sure you could pick him up, but he's not a safe enough bet to supplant most guys, so why bother?

Crotch-ery played the Titans.

Colston played the Browns.

Berrian played the packers

Common denominator? They all played three of the four worst teams in the NFL. (Oakland being #1) Enough said on those.

Reggie Williams is the best of the bunch there. Tennessee and Houston twice has to help. Plus, he is a system that is up for grabs. He could be #1 and he could be #3.

Rams defense might also be a nice pickup. Good schedule plus they looked good.

this is why I like him, the targets, especially the red zone ones. Yes, it was Tennessee, but the Jets will probably be needing to catch up a lot this year, so he could be a good gamble.

I picked up Jenkins and dropped Trent Green as I already have 2 QBs. I picked him up so that when I start Vick (which won't be for a couple of weeks) I will play Jenkins at the Flex with the hope of double points...

Of all the free agents in my leage, I thought Brandon Jacobs would be the darling, but no one has picked him up yet. I don't have room for him unless Droughns continues to be a zero.

I had a bad week this week and hope that everyone got their bad day out of the way!

T Green hurt, S Smith hurt, S Alexander nothing, Droughns nothing, Wayne nothing etc... My backups did pretty good though.

My concern with him is no matter his numbers, he was the 2nd best receiver on the Jets. Are they really going to have 2 guys with those big numbers every week?

Colston is listed as a TE on most sites and lines up as a WR. If nothing else he's a good pick up for when your TE has a bye or a poor matchup.

Crotch-ery played the Titans.

The uncommon denominator with Cotchery was 12 targets. Yes, the Jets played a weak secondary, but even against stronger teams the Jets will have to throw a lot and I think Cotchery is definitely worth stashing as a WR5 to see what happens. I read he was targetted on several red-zone throws.

Some of you guys are so stuck on the "he played against a bad team so he's not worth my time".

Point is, they were only in the red zone because it was against the Titans. How many times are the Jets going to be in the red zone against average or above-average opponents. Not many.

We're talking about a WR5, not someone to pick up and start every week.

Antonio Bryant

SF Primary will pass often

If you league doesnt already have Bryant drafted.....then IDK what sort of league it is...make a 6 man league Waiver Wire thread...

PS I started Bryant this week....and you want to pick him up..

PS again...Bryant had 1000 yds last year...if no picked him in your league that sad...sorry dude..

Dennis Northcutt may have some value as a reserve. With Jurevicious out for 4-6 weeks, he becomes the undisputed #2 in Cleveland. He had a decent pre-season connection with Frye, for whatever that's worth.

I just picked up Brandon Jacobs!

6'4" 264lbs beast with 6.8 average yards in 8 carries and a TD!

looks like they are going to try and keep tiki fresh.

Good call. Any starting WR is worth keeping tabs on, especially in 12 man leagues.

Yeah I was assuming he was already picked. He is better than every guy I listed.

I am in 2 leagues and Bryant was started in both.

No kidding! I own him in 2 leagues and started him in both as well. Bryant sure did better for me than Holt or Driver did!

This is why I am holding on to Zach Hilton. I drafted the punk as my 2nd TE and am stashing him hoping once he learns the offense he will play or actually be activated.

I drafted Bryant and started him. What is he doing on the waivers in any league? Maybe 8-team league.

Assuming your not in a PPR league....

Even so...."he sure did bette rthan Driver"?....didnt Driver have like 96 yds?...maybe 1 or 2 more pts than driver?

Before everyone passes judgement on a league that A. Bryant is available, remember that some leagues are set up differently than yours...

For instance, I am in a 12 team league that starts 2 wr. 8 total starters and only 5 bench spots. 5 bench spots makes it so there is still some available talent on the waiver wire. Not my favorite league, but it is fun. Most people try to carry 4 or 5 RB and that doesnt leave much room for wrs.

and yes, bryant is available in this league.

Nope, not a PPR league

Yes, Bryant sure did better than both Holt and Driver. Even 1 or 2 points is better last time I checked. Bryant was worth 13 and Driver 9 and Holt 8. Even so, this is more than 1 or 2 points. I think you are reading a little too much into the wording here killer.

Draft 4 WR/4 RB must start 2 of each

Draft 2 each TE/DST,K,QB must start 1 of each

Bryant also had a bomb of a TD that was called back for O holding or he would have been worth even more to me (bonus points for total receiving yards and for the long TD reception). Just to CMA - I am not sure if there were big play that were called back though on Driver/Holt

I'm taking a chance on

WES WELKER - WR Miami

If your league scores points for return yards, he could be a good pickup. He got a lot of targets from Pooper, too.

Not sure what you were quoting Merv. I made a comment about Hilton in this quote but you went on about Bryant.

I grabbed Bryant late in both leagues like maybe 14th round out of 16 or so and was excited to get him that late.

I grabbed Hilton in the 15th in one based off of his year end performance last year and TE lover Breese as his new QB. See how that worked out for me? I am hoping that once he learns the Jets O he will play. I also have Cooley (-3 yards ) so yes, I am worried about my TE situation now.

Bryant was projected as the 32nd best WR according to this site. Now I know there will be a lot of variation in projections. But your league is one of the smallest I have heard of (roster size) and I would have to assume everyone in the league would have at least 1 bench WR for byes. That is a minimum of 36 WRs taken. Granted Bryant may not make it in your top 36 but that few number of receivers taken is a very extreme case (each team only having 3 WRs). So I would say your league is in the minority as far as how many WRs are drafted.

I can see this being the case. I would point out, though, that the league probably isn't very competitive. Bryant is a #1 WR on a team that will be forced to pass a lot. I'm in a 10-teamer where only 32 WRs were taken, and Bryant went in the 10th round.

In 3 leagues, Bryant started in all 3. If Bryant is on the WW your league is a complete and total joke.
