The under hit last night. :pointstosky:

Anyone looking at the game tonight?

Ball State is a shaky favorite. They're headed in the wrong direction, having lost three in a row, including a 17 pt loss to Central Mich and a 14 pt whipping that stopped Temple's 20 game losing streak. Meanwhile, Miami O is better than their 1-9 record would indicate, with three of their last four losses coming by a FG.

I've got Miami taking the points, and likely to win outright.

I'm passing on tonight's ugly game.

Two rebuilding, young teams. Bowling Green will run the ball on the Miami OH terrible run defense. Bowling Green is an awful team that lost to Temple a couple of weeks ago. Miami OH sucks with just 1 win, but have played a couple of MAC teams close the last couple of weeks. Bowling Green gets healthier tonight with a couple of key players coming back, while Miami OH is missing a couple of key defensive players. You would think Bowling Green could take advantage of this, but the Bowling Green coach was questioning the heart of his young players as they have played awful the last couple of weeks. If Bowling Green doesn't get enought attendance tonight, they are in jeopardy of facing sanctions from the NCAA and possibly be ineligible for future bowl games and face other penalties. Weird situation, weird game. Pass.

Looks like nearly every MAC team is playing a mid week game this week. Interesting.

You are exactly right. With their two top tacklers out Miami should have trouble stopping the run tonight. I have to imagine that BG will try to take advantage of this. They actually have a good RB and a good running QB. Who knows, though. I am leaning towards the under, if anything.

I'm throwing 50 cents at BG.

I can't put money on a team with a 1 and 9 record.

But I gotta have some action on the game. Or I won't want to watch. LOL!

Taking what everyone said about Bowling Green's rushing offense and more importantly, Miami OH's poor rushing defense, to heart:

Bullock + Barnes Total Rushing Yards Over 128.5 (+120)

Good luck to all!

How did you get the Pistons at a pick? My book shows -7.5.

711 new orleans hornets 186.0 187.0 / 188.5 / 188.0 187.0 +280

712 detroit pistons PK -7 -15 / -7.5 / -7.5 -15 -7.5 -340

Not sure how it opened as a PK? But at 6AM that is what they gave it to me at!

For Thursday, I played

Ohio U (-4.5) for 3 units

I'll try to have a brief writeup tonight or tomorrow, but I've been swamped at work, and have baskets to follow tonight.

You guys ever see the movie "The Best of Times"? This game tonight reminds me of that game with all the mud. Now if only Reno Hightower could come in and score me 45 points.

WHAT THE FVCK?!? Seriously. Why is the quarterback stealing all the carries? Two long runs? Are the starting running backs that fvcking bad?

I admit, I deserve to lose betting on a game like this. But I'm getting porked royally here. Not to mention the one carry Barnes did get went for negative yardage.

That field is DESTROYED

Ugly game, for sure...

Hey, Miami TD. And missed the Xtra point.

I guess Bowling Green will have to go for a TD to win. It would be amazing if they could pull off a FG attempt.

Last night, we saw a game in the Glass Bowl. Tonight, we see a game in...do I really have to finish this one off....I guess I will...the Mud Bowl. :rimshot:

WTF did Miami just waste 2 timeouts??

Missed the FG, but still, you really think you were icing the kicker with those TO's?

Stanford down 24 the half. Pounding Stanford 2nd H with Air Force shooting 83% and Stanford shooting 38%...

Stanford 2nd H (-7) for 3 units

Parlay Stanford 2nd H (-7) and Ohio U (-4.5) (Thur) 2 units to win 5.2 units

Parlay Stanford 2nd H (-7) and Pitt (+11) (Thur) 2 units to win 5.2 units.

If I am wrong, so be it. It will be a tough loss. I still love this bet.

I am posting this in the football thread along with the Geek Club thread on baskets only because it involves football.

Good luck to all.

Locked in the following parlay for the weekend:

Michigan ML (+220)/Michigan-Ohio State Under 42 (-140)

Paid for the extra security of 6 full TDs since this still pays over 4:1 odds. I don't like bets like this though because once Ohio State holds a certain lead, I have no shot. But I can't see either defense bending much in this one.

Waiting for Yer Mom's picks and combining them with Ditka's for a final overall card.

Good luck to all!

What are we feelin for tonight fellas?

2-0 so far this week, hit on both the unders, want to keep it going!

The issue tonight could be the weather once again. It is supposed to rain throughout the game, although I don't think it will be as bad as last night's game. In my opinion this plays into WVU hands. Their running game is one of the best in the country and Pitt's run D leaves a lot to be desired. The weather could also hinder Palko and Pitt's passing game. If that is the case it could force them to run and contrary to popular belief, WVU's run D is actually very solid.

I think this one could get ugly very fast. I will be taking WVU laying the points.

As for right now, I'm thinking about staying away from the WVU/Pitt game. I really don't know how that game is gonna go. I'm taking a strong look at Akron/Ohio though. I like Ohio and the under, but don't know which one I'm gonna go with. Does anyone have any insight on this game?

Once again weather could be an issue in this game. It is supposed to be raining all day down in Athens. This should play into OU's hands as they are definitely a run first team. Akron, on the other hand, would love to try and throw the ball all day with Getsy at QB.

With the weather the way it is and OU's stout D I would lean towards the under in tonight's game. I also will be looking closely at OU to cover, although the public is all over the Bobcats, which I don't like. Here are a few OU trends to think about:

Under is 8-0 in OHIO last 8 night games.

Under is 9-3 in OHIO last 12 games overall.

After looking at this game a little closer, the thing that worries me is that the line has gone down even though the public is on OU to the tune of about 60%. That usually means the big money is going the other way. I will probably wait to see what happens closer to gametime, but if the line stays this way, or goes down another half a point I will likely jump on Akron.

Giving up on baskets for a while, after Stanford left me thoroughly disgusted. I hope I can finish the college football year strong. A couple of quick writeups, as I only have a couple minutes for a lunch break today.

Thursday

Ohio U (-4.5) for 3 units WINNER!!!!!

Pittsburgh (+11) for 2 units LOSER!!

Ohio U is playing for a lot tonight: clinching their division and grabbing a spot to face Central Michigan in the MAC championship game. The MAC has been weird for a couple weeks now, as nearly every single time a MAC team, in or out of conference, has been a dog, they have covered. With an exception of Central Mich, who clinched their division last week and covered a 6 point spread at home, similar to Ohio U situation tonight. Ohio is playing with revenge for a 27-3 loss last year to Akron, and are coming into the game with tons of momentum, winning 5 games in a row, including wins over Illinois, and a couple of the better MAC teams in West Mich and Kent. Ohio features the #7 pass defense in the country, giving up 49.8% completions to teams averaging 56.4%, which bodes well vs Akron's best offensive weapon, QB Luke Getsy. Ohio loves to run the ball, and has a dual run/pass threat at QB with Everson. Ohio has ran for over 200 yards in their last 4 games vs MAC opponents this year, and they will do so again tonight. Akron won the MAC last year, with a late season push, and caught the frontrunners, started out the year losing competitively to Penn St and beating North Carolina St. Then promptly fell apart, losing 4 out of 6 games. Something about this team is just lacking, whether chemistry or something else. It's been a disappointing year for Akron, and I have been fading them most of the year. Akron is 1-5 SU on the road this year, the only win came in the 2nd week of the season. Further, even though Akron has won 3 of their last 4 games, they have come at the expense of the worst teams in the MAC in Miami OH, Bowling Green, and Buffalo, all home games for Akron. And they got blown out in Toledo in between. The recent Akron wins have kept this line lower than it should be. Akron has lost by an average of over 2 TDs in their last 3 road games. Lay the lumber.

The Backyard Brawl. Make no mistake, this is a huge rivalry. We all know about West Virginia, as we see they on TV all the time. Rainy conditions. West Virginia playing for big stakes. So West Virginia will blow them out, right? Pitt is a talented team, will go to a bowl game, coached by consensus moron in Dave Wansteadt. And Pitt has lost 3 games in a row, including blowing a 14 point lead in the 4th quarter at U Conn last week, eventually losing in double OT. I suspect that Pitt was looking ahead to their rivalry game tonight by coasting late in the game to UConn, and paid for their lack of focus at the end. Prior to that, they lost by 10 points each to Rutgers and South Florida, two talented Big East teams going to decend bowl games this year, so no real shame their, even though Pitt was favored in those games. So Pitt's recent struggles can be traced back to losses to good teams, lack of focus last game, and giving up 268,190,317 rushing in those 3 games. So West Virginia will run the ball tonight. However, West Virginia has a leaky pass defense, and in the three games they faced a credible passing team, they gave up 276 passing to East Carolina, 354 to Louisville, and gave up an embarrasing 310 vs Cincinnati last game, even though Cincinnati can't really throw all that well. Every other team they played is basically a run first team. And since WV runs better than most every other team in the nation, of course WV won a lot of games. Pitt will move the ball up and down the field tonight. Remember, this is a rivalry game, with Pitt getting way too many points. It is true that WV won last year 45-13, but had a +4 turnover advantage. Two years ago, WV walked into Pitt as a -3.5 favorite late in the year, needing a win to clinch the Big East, on rainy night. Final score: Pitt wins 16-13 and wraps up the Big East the next week. Now, I am not saying Pitt is going to win this game, but getting +11? Come on. West Virginia, deep down, is all ready looking towards the Rutgers game a couple of weeks away. Pitt to keep it close. Take the points.

Good luck to all.

I like the under as well, but I'm contemplating whether to take Ohio or the under.

Good point. The more I look at this game, the more likely I will stay away. OU does have a lot to play for, but I hate to go with a heavy public favorite, especially in the MAC. About 67% of the public is on OU and 75% is on the under, which is kind of surprising.

If anything, it looks like I would take Akron in this spot, although all my football knowledge points to an OU cover. That, and I defintely want to see OU win big since I am an alum makes this a tough one for me.

Tonights Play:

Why must weather rear its ugly head in what would otherwise be flat out fireworks? If the conditions keep up then the play will be Pittsburgh. Im sure last night gave a pretty good idea of how effective pass rush is when the field is sloppy....non existant. This will give Palko all day to sit back and pick apart the weak secondary of WV. However, if the weather lets up which right now isnt looking to good, the over is going to be a very large play for me. White and Slaton will run all day on Pitts D. and whoever has the ball last should end up winning the game. Sorry for the indecisiveness, but game time is when the wager shall be placed!

Good Luck!!

I'm with you on Pitt. I also like the Over. I think the rain has actually let up a bit, in fact, it stopped for a while. I have a friend in Pittsburgh and he said it is off and on raining. He also said that there is a 40% channce of rain tonight and that it is pretty windy 15 mph.

Ahh...always nice to see a fellow respected handicapper on the same play! I considered that the winds may tweak Palkos passes a bit but I dont think those winds are strong enough to really effect the balls flight path if Palko is throwing darts, he has a great arm. The rain however should have both secondarys slippin trying to keep up since the WR's know where their going. I think it should be just wet enough to slow WV's rushing attack a bit since alot of thier big plays come on option cuts, should be some slippage.....hopefully. The points looked a bit too good to pass up, hopefully it pans out!

Good Luck!! :(

Tyler Palko (Pittsburgh) Total Pass Attempts - Must Play

19:45 ET Pass Attempts OFF OFF Under 29.5 (-115)

 The weather in Pitt isnt going to be a factor. It rained ALL fu(kin day, but has cleared up and is actually pretty nice. Its about 60 out! The news just said that there may be a passing shower, but rain should not be a factor! Pitt has been bad. They have Louv. next. WV needs this game baaaad. And they need to stack up some points. I think WV cover, but will play the OVER. WV D is pretty bad and Palko should be able to put some points up too. Philly thanks for the Ohio write up. Im on the wagon. Im already down some good $ thanks to Gonzaga and KY last night. Between last Sunday and last night, I forget what it feels like to be up money. :dunno:

I am definitely playing Pitt tonight. Some of the online books have it down to 10 at this point, even though the public is on WVU (78%). I love to see line movement like this. Very similar to the Ball State line earlier this week. I have a feeling the sharp $ is on the Panthers. Am also on the over.

GL to everyone. :dunno:

I'm with you, but going to play it safe: I'm almost positive WV will score first. I'll root for that first score and then nail Pitt during in-game live betting where the line will hopefully jump to 2 TDs or more.

May take that passing prop too if OLY or my other outs offer it.

I've been in my worst slump of the season so I hope your hunch is right, YM. Not taking the over, because, well, you've seen my luck with the over during the week!
