OB1 33 Posted July 6, 2004 OK, I'll get the ball rolling. I ranked the teams from 1-15, both for this year, and then again for a 2 year outlook. Here is what I came up with. Tier 1 1. Orgazmo - Built to win now with a great RB combo in Ricky and Dillon. 2. JasperisOK - Similar story, Priest and Davis are a tough combo to beat. 3. Mark Buffington -The more I look at Buffy's team for this year, the more I like it. Davis and Garner are perfect backs for our scoring system, and his young WRs are excellent. Tier 2 4. Cornerback - His RBs will keep him in it this year despite weak QB/WRs. 5. TUS - Solid all around team, and mostly young players. I like the way this team was put together 6. windycity - Pass catching RBs, good mix of young/old WRs and a top QB. 7. Scooby - Deuce and Tiki should be a nice combo of RBs in this system, and the rest of the team is solid. 8. CMT - The WRs need to carry the squad, but they might be able to. Tier 3 9. BNF - Should probably be ranked higher, but I just think that there are too many questions at RB and WR. 10. Whoisjgalt - If he had any semblance of WRs that could produce this year, he'd be in tier one. Unfortunately his WR prospects for this year are UGLY. 11. grandpahoo - I swear ugly wasn't a segway! Similar to Galt, the WRs will be atrocious this year. Heny, Taylor, and Bell along with Bulger and Keyshawn (I said that?) should keep him in games though. 12. Emoney - Might get by with Wheatley/Dunn this year, but as early as next year(or midseason) this RB corp will be abysmal. With Manning, S.Moss and Gonzo, he'll win his share of games, but I just don't see the RBs and other WRs being consistent enough for him to contend. 13. Farmer Bernie - If McGahee or Brown gets a shot at full time starting this year, and McCardell actually plays, Bernie can compete. more likely he'll struggle this year and then be a favorite next season. Tier 4 14. ICEMAN - I don't see Hearst keeping the job all year, and Shockey's foot is a concern. Culpepper, Faulk, Horn and Shockey are capable of putting up great seasons and making ICE a surprise, but a whole lot has to go his way. 15. Wilzone - Clearly this is a team built for tomorrow. Wilzone will take his lumps this year. Fast forward two years from now: 1. whoisjgalt - With Tomlinson, and the two Joneses in tow, he SHOULD have a great RB corp. Pennington will be in his prime, and Williams/Jenkins could be a dangerous WR duo. This team will be a monster IMO. 2. Cornerback - He has a solid core now, and as Fitzgerald and Rivers mature, this team will only improve. 3. Wilzone - I'm betting that the Jackson and Foster picks will pan out by then, and along with Palmer, Holt, Westbrook and Reggie Williams this could be another stacked squad. 4. Farmer Bernie - McGahee promises to be a stud, and if that happens look out for Bernie. 5. TUS - The team will pretty much be the same. I think TUS drafted very well to make sure age isn't an issue. 6. grandpahoo - As the WRs mature, this team can be VERY good. The RBs could be an issue depending on how FA and McGahee affect Taylor and Henry. Bell could be the next Portis though. 7. Mark Buffington - The only concern is who will take Garner's spot? 8. windycity - The RBs will need to be addressed eventually . 9. Scooby - I just don't see a lot of young guys waiting to step in. The WR/RB depth will be a big concern. 10. Orgazmo - Ricky and Dillon should still be around, but the WRs and QBs might be hurting bigtime. 11. CMT - QB and WR will be fine, but will Staley still be a starting RB? If not, then who the heck will start there fro him? He is thin there now, in 2 years he'll have no one unless he gets lucky in the drafts. 12. JasperisOK - Again, who will be his RBs once Priest and Davis are gone or no longer studs? 13. BNF - Maybe i'm just to hard on this team, but I see a lot of areas that will be of concern down the line. 14. Emoney - RBs are going to be abysmal, and Manning, Moss, Gonzo won't be enough to perfume the stench. 15. ICEMAN - This team will be Culpepper, Shockey and not much else. OK, back to work for me. The Unknown Soldier 0 Posted July 10, 2004 Huh, I didn't see that there were any new posts in the league (per the fft software with the un-grayed out folders). I'll look back tomorrow to counter some trades (scooby, you know who you are...) and remark about the rankings. I don't think I could do this justice at 2:30 AM. Nice looking summarization though ob. The Unknown Soldier 0 Posted July 10, 2004 I am so pissed off. I just typed up a huge post, slipped and hit the mouse (went back a page) and when I went forward to the reply page, everything was gone. The gist of my award-winning piece was that OB1's right that I did go for youth/talent over just pure talent. This being my first dynasty league, I made it a goal going in to try to only take guys (at least early on) that had youth and some experience on their side. I wasn't going for the truly unknown rookies, but the guys that I thought had shown something against nfl competition, but were still in their early to mid-20's - guys that I thought would be in a position to make an impact for a while. That said, it will also be how I look at other teams. I like how OB1 separated it to the now and the then to rate the teams. Good idea. I don't think I will do it as well as he (since I'm so pissed off right now) but to outline the obvious (I believe): _____________________________________________________ Teams for this year: Top 2 Buffington: Brady, Davis, Garner, Johnson, and Smith are a nice core. Orgazmo: If Garcia is back to his talented metrosexual self, then this team should be solid. With Garcia, Williams, Dillon, Smith, Moulds they have a very good talent at every starting position. Something a little off Jasper: I don't like his qb prospects. Testeverde? Harrington? Not sure if either will be effective. If so, he's got Davis, Holmes, Boldin Iceman: CPepp, Faulk, Horn, Bruce and Shockey will all have to have decent seasons, but if they do, he's got a good core. If they don't... CMT: Got Green, Staley, Moss, Coles, Porter, Jackson. They all need to produce. I don't know if Staley will... Farmer Bernie: Needs *gasp* David Boston to come through. He has Favre, Alexander, *maybe* Brown, AJohnson, McCardell. If Brown splits carries or isn't dominant, he needs another weapon in Boston to come through. Needs more ghoo: Bulger, Taylor, Henry, Keyshaun(or Glenn) will make up his core. He needs more help to contend though. windy: McNabb, Green, Martin, Ward, Smith will have to come through like they have in the past. If Rogers or Thomas come through as well, he could contend Scooby: Brooks, McCallister, Barber should all be great in this scoring system (as long as the Giants don't lose faith in Barber). Mason, Robinson, Suggs, Galloway could round out the squad well for this year. Not sure if any will be game-breakers outside of McCallister though. Cornerback: Bennett, RJohnson, Portis are a good young RB core, but I don't trust that Burress will come through this year. ------------------------------------------------------------- I'll skip over the rest as I don't believe they have more than a few weapons for this year. I could be very wrong though as injuries always happen and surprises always pop up from nowhere. As for the future prospects, these are the teams that I think are set up well: 1st group: Cornerback: Bennett, Johnson, Portis, Fitzgerald, Davis are a good group with Dorsey, Rivers, Smoker as hopefuls to be the qb of the future. Farmer Bernie: Leftwich, Mcgahee, Alexander, Brown(?), AJohnson should be a good solid group. Buffington: Brady/Roethlisberger, DomDavis, SSmith, CJohnson, Stallworth are all young and talented. whoisjgalt: Pennington, Tomlinson, Jones boys, Williams. He's relying on a lot of unprovens to go along with Pennington and Tomlinson but it would be a great gamble if the rookies live up to their hype. Wilzone: Palmer, Henson, Westbrook, Foster, Jackson, Johnson, Holt. Holt is really the only proven commodity (though Westbrook and Foster have looked great in limited time). This team should be great if/when three of these young rb's are superstars. If they're not... 2nd group (will be lacking something): CMT: great wr's for the future. Lacking in RB and needs Manning to become like his bro. OB1: Edge, Jones, Hasselbeck (maybe) should be good. I'm not a fan of Robinson or Walker, but recognize their possible talent. windycity: McNabb, Green, Rogers, Ward will be around, but he'll need to restock with Jimmy Smith and Curtis Martin leaving. That's all I feel like going into now. I may have missed some, but those are the initial feeling I have after going through the rosters.
