fantasymasterWalker 0 Posted December 15, 2006 Thanks, this is really amazing. Like others have stated I really hope we can't get in trouble for this b/c it has to be illegal. I was a skeptic at first but this really does work and there is no spyware or viruses that come with it. Thank You
ready5 0 Posted December 15, 2006 Thanks, this is really amazing. Like others have stated I really hope we can't get in trouble for this b/c it has to be illegal. I was a skeptic at first but this really does work and there is no spyware or viruses that come with it. Thank You it is flat-out illegal and you can bet that the cable networks will eventually crack down... but they can only really get at the P2P companies or the stream hosters... we streamers are relatively safe behind our anonymous logins and plausible deniability. ever since the betamax decision, the rule has been that copying technologies are not inherently illegal if they can be used in a legal fashion. the way they got napster (and a few other P2P companies) was to prove that they were profiting off of illegal use (vicariously liable)... and, most importantly, that they weren't doing enough to discourage it (contributory infringement). so going after the various P2PTV companies is possible... but since more and more of them are coming out of asia, that's just going to get trickier. so going after the stream hosters is another option, but since most P2P is now "anonymous" (not really, but more or less), finding them takes a bit of doing... subpoenaing ISPs isn't fun, but watch the ones that are owned by bigger media conglomerates (MSN, etc.)... or, for those of you on campus, realize that you're subject to additional usage rules. bottom line? feel free to stream away until the NFLN figures out a way to crack down on the P2PTV companies and/or the hosters. if you want to host a stream yourself, you may want to check out this site (or others like it) first. oh, and... to date there hasn't been a lot of malware associated with P2PTV... but it is P2P and you can bet VXers will eventually start their nonsense, so definitely do some research and be careful. ready5 0 Posted December 15, 2006 it looks like only 50 people watch these NFL network games on sop cast so i highly doubt that the NFL cares. ha... yeah NFLN has a way to go... but keep in mind that P2PTV is a lot more than just NFLN. if you know where to look, you can get just about anything... including local-only and pay-per-view. if you're into soccer, P2PTV is a godsend. ETA: i assume you were being hyperbolic with the "only 50 people" bit...

ready5 0 Posted December 15, 2006 You seem to be somewhat of a "techie." Others here have tried to help me. Can you think of any reason I get a runtime error when trying to install this. Any help would be hugely appreciated! hmmm... is there any other info with the error message? is it windows reporting the runtime error or sopcast itself? basic steps: uninstall sopcast completely (manually remove files and registry entries if necessary), make sure you have the latest version of sopcast and that it downloaded correctly, close all applications, switch off any anti-virus software, reinstall sopcast. other than that, it's a little tough to say... it's definitely machine-specific, though... something with either your environment or library. but i'm no programmer, so any knowledge i've got ends there. btw, there are some pretty extensive forums out there... including at sopcast.com itself. if you can't find a thread with relevant info, just ask your question... chances are someone's already gone through what you're experiencing. good luck! Let Da Big Dog Eat 40 Posted December 15, 2006 TY, will follow your suggestions. Am thinking that I still have '98 running on this box (yeah, I need to replace it) but moving to FL next Sept so will donate it and start over. Think "98 may be part of the problem. The thing I love most about this bd is that people are so willing to help others. You are evidence. TY. God, I didn't just post that smiley. I need my GF real quick. Or, a power tool. A real noisy one!

A real noisy one! oh it's win98? that's your problem right there... to the best of my knowledge, sopcast doesn't work on win98. ETA: actually, looks like i'm wrong... sopcast says their software does run on win98, although it also needs windows media player 9, which requires win98SE or greater. for the record, i've heard of a ton of people having problems getting sopcast to actually run on win98... Will download media player 9 if I haven't already but not tonight. Too tired and drunk. Will let you know if it works. This bd is just "too cool for school" with all the help. My Pack plays next Thursday and if I can get it to work, I know how to make my big screen TV into a monitor. A mega party will ensue. Am BFS as are most of my friends and none of us will work again until Monday.

GobbleDog 984 Posted December 17, 2006 How come the NFL network games arn't on in the US? It's on normal TV up here in canada Damn Canadians! I think it depends on the local cable providers. Some carry it, but most don't. Anybody read the declarations on Sopcast home page? Gives all the commie gobbledy-gook on not offending the People's Republic of China in about a dozen statements.
