7th Round Commentary

Wow...surprised at love for Leinart pick.

I'm going to justify my pick of Romo and play devil's advocate with the Leinart pick.

ROMO

-12 games played, 205 ff pts.

-pro-rated 16 games, then 272 ff pts...would have finished 7th in last year's rankings.

-Did have the huge Thanksgiving game, but still if looked at each game, not alot of real down games...mostly mid-solid performances

-Will be full year as starter (or is that the concern with the b/up QB they brought in?), so more chemistry with offense/skill players

LEINART

-11 games played (took out game he didn't start), 161 ff pts.

-pro-rated 16 games, then 234 ff pts...would have finished 11th in last year's rankings

-Cards already 7th in pass atts, 10th in pass yds last yr

-Also 26th in rush atts, 30th in rush yds

-So if many of us agree they will run more...we also expect the pass yds to increase?

-One could make arguement that offense OVERALL will improve, but I just don't see with new staff, OL (better but needs to mesh), etc. for that to happen right away/significantly/at all

-Admittedly the 3500/24 Bomb mentions is definitely realistic, especially with those WRs, but for me that's likely high end considering all the above

i basically have 3500/24 for both of the two. homo gets a slight edge from rushing stats, but ever so slight. i went with leinart because of better all around upside due to his team going in the right direction, improvement on the line (and a backside protector now), and an awesome schedule. really though, they were neck and neck for me.

The QB run is ON!!!

Really wanted Leinart ,but will settle for Little Manning. He is on the hot seat in NYC, and seems to be everyone whipping boy. That's OK, I think he will bounce back just fine. only 2 years ago he finished as a top 5 QB and the sky was the limit, I'll take that at the end of the 7th.

There are many different runs in a draft but the mid draft Qb run always seems to be the most frantic to me. You just got to love it. I really wanted Vince Young as a 2nd qb, and would have likely done it this round. He might die trying to carry the Titans this year, but he will do what it takes to try to win.

I was high on Leinart too, but only as a starter and I had one of those. I think he is in the same place people put Eli a few years back(or last year). The difference is, I think he has the meddle to pull it off. I feel he will be a consistent performer. Never way down, and capable of swinging with the big boys on any given week. Romo is suffering from the stigma of the snap some, and will likely end up neck and neck with Leinart by seasons end. The Boy's are always full of peaks and valleys though. I had them about equal. I had Young slightly ahead due to at least 6 rushing td's :dunno: He would be a perfect #2 Qb in my estimation!!
