"Strikeout" defined by Wikipedia

Recommended Posts

Roger Clemens has taken the "K" name to an extreme, naming his four sons Koby, Kory, Kacy, and Kody. (Koby was drafted as a third baseman by the Houston Astros organization at the age of 18).

god... i really hope clemens didn't intentionally name them while thinking of "K" for strikeouts... cuz if he did i'll have to up him on my list of giant douchebags

Maybe one of the biggest reasons, we are gonna trade Dunn. :headbanger:

His contract makes him almost worthless. If he gets traded, he becomes a free agent next year.

pimp.....any idea why the Reds would be after a 2B in a deal with the Angels. I'd rather see them go after a reliver and a catcher myself.

I have no idea. I hope it doesn't mean they're trying to move Phillips. But, if Phillips was included in a deal along with Dunn, then we might get something in return. Phillips only makes like $450k and we can cut $13 million from the payroll with Dunn gone.

Who cares how many times he strikes out? The guy is on pace for his regular 40HR, 100 RBI's, 100 Runs, 25-30 Doubles, 5 triples, and a slugging % of 515. His current average is .258 which is actually higher than the last few years. Plus, he's on pace to swipe 15-20 bases. I'm not sure what he makes but teams could do alot worse than picking up Dunn.

Yes, we could get more by giving phillips also, but I want him on this team, and if they are looking for a 2 basemen i could see phillips moving to SS.....I've heard rumors of us trading Dunn to the Astros for Lidge but I don't know how credible that is.

He strikes out about 40% of the time with runners on base and is also hitting ~.225 under those same conditions. Mr. clutch he is not and his defense is terrible.

If his salary wasn't as high as it is, he'd be ok. But he's as anti-clutch as they come.

It happened again yesterday. Reds were mounting a comeback only to have Dunn strike out with the tying runs on base to end the game.

And I'm sure he'd have around 10-15 less home runs if not for GABP.

I think jimmie foxx has been the league strikeout leader more times than anyone else and his avg is like .320+ with two world series wins.

Dunn has almost as many strikeouts in 7 seasons as Foxx did in 20.

Went to the game today....Dunn homered in the 5th to take a 4-3 lead but after Sosa's grand slam, Dunn comes up twice with 2 guys on base and watches the 3rd strike go by without swinging (both times). ....lose the game 7-6.

You're unreal. First of all, Dunn hit his home run after Sosa's grand slam, not before. Plus his homer did not give them the lead, it brought them within one run. Secondly,he wasn't up twice with 2 guys on base, just once. You sure you were at the game or are you just a Dunn basher? The guy goes 3 for 5 with with 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in and you act as if he lost the game for you. How about the fact that you wouldn't be in it at all if it wasn't for him? Yes, Dunn left two guys on base. Griffey struck out twice as well and left 4 guys on base. Gonzalez left 3 on base. Encarnacion and Philips go 2 for 9 with 4 guys left on base. But I'm glad you were at the game.

"that SO/ HR list"

i think the most amazing stat on that list is vlad's SO% i mean the guy swings at EVERYTHING... balls in the dirt... balls that should handcuff him... and still has the least SO % in every category compared to the other guys with 12 or more HRs

jets24, you need to go read some baseball theory of Bill James.

It's pretty clear you don't know jack shiot about baseball.

Wasn't Mark Bellhorn the starting 2nd baseman for the Red Sox team that won the world series?

523 at bats 177 strikeouts

Wasn't Bill James part of the Red Sox brass in 2004? Why yes he was.

OOPS

Instead of telling jets24 that he didn't know jack shiot about baseball, I nearly told him that he knew about as much about baseball as edger.

Not knowing shiot about baseball and edger are pretty much synonymous. I don't think I need to back that comment up any further.

In baseball, a strikeout or strike out (denoted by SO or K) occurs when the batter receives three strikes during his time at bat. Strikeouts are associated with dominance on the part of the pitcher and incompetence on the part of the batter, although for power hitters it is recognized that the style of swing that generates home runs also leaves the batter somewhat susceptible to striking out.

For some reason this made me

It's a conspiracy.

He's on a hot streak right now, but the Reds won't trade him because he's finally "reached his potential".

I bet he's hitting .300 by the all star break, we keep him, then he goes on a 1 for 60 streak with 59 Ks.

If your team is shopping for an OF/DH, Adam Dunn is the best player evah.
