TheNewGirl 1,475 Posted July 1, 2007 On the side of my laptop, there is a slot for an SD/MMC memory card. I insert one, and nothing happens. I would think that the laptop would recognize that something was in there and it would start to read it. Is something supposed to happen? Do I have to try and find the card via My Computer and view it that way?

If it's not you might check to see that the slot is enabled, either in the hardware manager in windows or possibly in the BIOS.

This would be true so long as the "device" of the port itself is not disabled in Device Manager, or the driver supporting it is not corrupt. It may have picked it up without announcing it. Look in Windows Explorer at the "drives" present. You will likely see one for c:\, perhaps a D:\ for the CDROM....but then if another exists it is likely your memory card... The best way to manage the drive is to right click my computer and select manage. click on disk management and look for the device\card. if it has a drive letter that duplicates another simply right click it and select assign drive letter. that will clear up your problem, if the drive doesn't show up at all then you have a driver issue or you will need to enable the device in the device manager which is located just above disk management in the same console. Good point. I've had that happen. If you have drives mapped it definitely could overlap with the letter windows is trying to assign to your card.
TheNewGirl 1,475 Posted July 2, 2007 Cool. I will continue to play with it, this gives me good ideas on where to look. Thanks!!!
TheNewGirl 1,475 Posted July 2, 2007 Found out what the problem was. I wasn't pushing the card in all the way. I guess I am a little TOO gentle when inserting things. Perhaps I should have just RAMMED it in there.
