What would you do with the 11th pick in the fantasy footbal draft?

Recommended Posts

12 man league, everything is standard. I really think I like McGahee at 14, but what sort of strategy can I use for the draft, and more importantly, what's the best RB I can get with the 11th pick?

According to ADP data you're probably looking at someone like Henry, Bush, Maroney, possibly Rudi Johnson. Assuming it's not one of those goofy PPR leagues. :ninja:

So, if I got Henry and McGahee, would that be ideal?

Also, what kind of picks for positions should I make the rest of the draft? Just best player available the entire time or should I have a positional strategy?

Aim for Rudi and then a one of the top five WRs. Rudi isn't sexy but he can be your cornerstone for a good team. I always go for best available payer at a position keeping in mmind you might have to ad lib if a genuine steal comes your way.

Rudi and then a QB. If you go rb rb, your looking at all 2nd tier players. 2nd tier rb's, then by the time it snakes back to you, 2nd tier WR's and QB's. Gotta accumulate studs if your to stay competitive.

I am in the same boat with the 11th pick.

I hope Rudi falls, if not i like Henry, Bush, Moroney (in that order).

I am unsure at this point what i will do with the next pick. Most likely another RB, but very possibly a WR or Manning if he's there.

I still think you're better off going RB/RB at that spot. Henry and McGahee are as good as any you're likely to get at that spot. Then take best available amoung the WRs and QB for the next time through, then best player available from there. Just don't set anything in stone and be flexible. I'd probably try to get a #3 RB in the 5th/6th round.

I do too, but I'd be hoping for Rudi Johnson and Ronnie Brown. In rounds 2 and 3, pick up stud WRs... Housh and Driver would be nice.

Unless you want to gamble and swap Brown for Chad Johnson and Driver for Cadillac Williams. I wouldn't.

gotta go rb/rb in that slot. If you don't, your 2nd rb is not gonna be good, unless you luck out with one of the 3rd rounders blowing up. One or 2 of them will, but its a crap shoot. As opposed to plenty of quality wrs available at the bottom of the 3rd, and qbs, well you can get one in the 3/4 or wait till the 5th. RB/RB, take the 2 best you like from that tier that are still available...

Alright, I'm definitely going to take 2 RBs followed by 2 WRs. I'm goin to draft the best RBs available, do I take T. Henry or R. Johnson if they both are available? Johnson has a tough schedule every year, but he still does great. Also, any other general advice would be great before my draft tomorrow, thanks.

Just for info.....i have the 11 as well and in mocks im going rb, rb....

Then if Gates, Jacobs, Benson, or Duece are there in rd 3 im grabbing them. (I can start 3 backs though)

If i get Gates....then i go WR on the turn.

So i start off with Henry, McGahee, Gates, Driver.......ill take that.

Because in round 5 and 6...there are still solid #3 backs, and a WR like Branch, Chambers, V Jackson, Coles, etc still there as your #2WR....on top of having Gates already.

RD7 im finding Kitna, Hass, types for qbs.....who will work just fine.

We don't have to draft a TE, we have 2 WRs and a WR/TE flex. Would I be better off drafting a T.O. or a Roy Williams or am I better off with gates?

No offense by this....really. But if you have to ask who your first 3 picks should be, then you really need to do some research. The first 3 picks are the easiest ones to make, after that is where you should have questions. Just don't be the guy who is taking players already drafted and looking at your magazine depth charts in the 5th round and asking other owners who you should take. Do some research, these guys have given you pretty good advice here so far - fftoday is a great place to learn about fantasy. Also - check out www.fantasyfootballcalculator.com and do several mock drafts so you can practice and get your style down. Good luck bro.

Ideal?

That tandem has a HIGH likelihood to both be major busts.

With WR in the state it is now, i'd consider locking down Peyton. at least you guarantee yourself the #1 guy at a position.

both mcgahee and Henry could finish the season in the low teens/20's as far as RB production.

I really doubt Peyton will fall to #11, especially in my league. Who would you end up taking at 14, and who would you take at 11 assuming Peyton is gone? What RBs can I get without HIGH likelihoods to be major busts?

Jesus....dont take Manning even if he is there. Only rookies or noobs would take PM in round 1....dont do it. You'll be a round behind everyone else at every position. Manning doesnt make up for that.

Honestly at 11 and 14....any back you get is a risk, but after LT and SJAX...they all are.

McGahee scares me more than Henry. Im starting to lean towards getting Henry, etc....then grabbing Harrison or CJ at 14.

To me theres not a great difference in Ronnie Brown, Maroney Portis and Deuce, Benson, Jacobs....as far as risk, upside, etc this year. there is a difference...but not a major one IMO

Despite being condescending, you're also wrong. While I agree with you that the middle to late rounds are the hardest to gauge, if you think the first three picks from the 11 spot are easy then you know something the rest of us don't know. Every year at least 2-3 of the RB's picked at the end of the first and start of the second rounds are busts. The third round often turns into a crap shoot, too. Plus, if people in this forum didn't talk about who they were planning to take rounds 1-3 then there would be about 80 percent fewer posts for people like you to pick on.

@ 11, My best case scenario would be to walk away from the first 2 rounds with -- 2 of Maroney, Henry, or Bush.

In ranking order:

Reggie Bush

Laurence Maroney

Travis Henry

If they are all gone by the 2nd round pick.. It's a really tough call.

It would probably be between Clinton Portis and Ronnie Brown.

With neither of, would I be extremely happy with. But the 2nd round talent, is pretty even throughout.

That's why 1st and 2nd pick have a big advantage this year. They can grab LT2 and Sjax, and still come away with a Edgerrin James, or Maurice Jones Drew, Cedric Benson, Thomas Jones, or maybe even Clinton Portis.

The just feel like the RBs that you can get anywhere in the 2nd, are pretty close in terms of value. They all have some weaknesses, but they also all have serious upside as well. Just so long as they all don't become a RBBC.
