When you take out emotion and look at it rationally, Clearly Godfather.

1. Far more interesting characters
   
2. Far better Cinematography & Direction
   
3. I'm guessing won FAR more awards
   
4. Far more complex relationships
   

All things considered, technically, SR was a far easier movie to shoot, act, light, costume, cast and direct than a multi-generational, multi-charactered, multi-location epic.

 

A (very) rough analogy would be like comparing the LOTR to 'Raging Bull'. Both good movies, but overall...
