Vince Young top five QB?

Recommended Posts

horrible analysis imo.

he's got zero proven tools around him. this isn't basketball. you need decent teammates to generate points.

Isn't he on the cover of Madden08. If he survives the jinx I still think he is a couple of years away from top five. Titans obviously need to give him some big time help at wide receiver and running back before that offense opens up. Football is a team sport and without any support Young cannot be a one man wrecking ball.

Exactly right - no supporting cast in Nashville. Let somebody else draft him as QB1! The only way I'm taking a chance on him is late rounds as QB2, but he won't be around. I know somebody in my QB-happy league will reach for him way too early.

He's projected pretty high in MyFFToday customized scoring setup but with the Madden jinx and the lack of quality players around him I'll let the rest of the league take him as a QB1 or early QB2.

Unless Eric Moulds resumes his form of a few years ago, Young just doesn't have anyone to throw to.

But I think he'll do great in a short run for FF, like weeks 13-16 (14-17) for FF playoffs...running, running TDs only.

Mcnabb didnt have much to work with back in his early days either. I think Young is going to be a fantasy stud soon. Hes gold in dynasty leagues, especially if you have another viable starter to go with him while he develops

he doenst need help he is going to run for over half his FF point production, and anything passing is a bonus

I like him and try to get him as my backup (taking him a little early to do so)...he basically is a running back and any passing stats he gets are gravy...think he approaches 1000yds rushing and 10 rushing TDs...

Yet another fabulously insightful gem on fantasy sports from ESPN.

Can't wait until their fantasy "draft" when Suzy Kolber takes him as the overall #1

Mike "puppy power" Vick never had weapons around him either, and he is ALWAYS a top 10 qb in my league.....now this year he wont be obviously, so make room for the new and improved vick.......V.Y.!

if your league offers 6pts for all td's......and 1 for every 10yds rushing.......why not

he has that going for him

i assume he will put up 150-200 yds passing per game.....and 75-90 yds rushing a game.....with 2-3 total tds per game.....in my league that is roughly 34-47 pts per game.....not too shabby

If you think Vince Young is a top five QB then you probably lose your league every year and pay hundreds of dollars for crappy fantasy magazines.

The thing is you don't have to pay Top 5 QB price to get him...If you think he has the potential to be a top 5 QB, why not spend your 8th round pick on him?

Was with you until the 2-3 TDs per game and 34-47 ppg... a tad (ok a lot) on the high side, me thinks. But yes, much like Vick -- VY may not be the best real-life QB, but will probably be more than serviceable in FANTASY FOOTBALL. This is even more true in leagues where QB passing TDs are weighted less than rushing and receiving TDs. Keep that in mind folks... talking fantasy football here. Now I'm not suggesting to put all your money on him as your starter, but if you can get him as QB2 with a decent value-pick, he could pay nice rewards. Although with all the hype surrounding him, he'll probably go early as people have already mentioned.

75-90 yards a game? So he's really gonna get between 1200-1440 yard for the season? He can run, but he isn't better than Vick. Vick didn't even put up those numbers.

if he put up those stats in rushing alone he'd be the best QB in fantasy football

He has rookies and scrubs as RBs on his team, and he has no reliable recievers. His O-line is average at best and the Titans Defense is horrible. Pick him and get QB who will not be top 10. THere are so many better options and drafting VY is going after name recognition. Commercials don't do jack for fantasy football. There is also the Madden Curse, which basically means guys are pissed he is on the cover and will be gunning for him. Guys will try to injure him due to jealousy since that is in essence what the Madden Curse is in real life. VY is overrated and should not be considered a starting QB :dunno:

It vastly depends on the scoring system as well I guess. If you get 4 points for passing TD but 6 for rushing and he rushes for 4 TD's that makes up for 6 passes. If he runs for 6 now we're talking 9 td passes. Also if he gains 40 yards a game rushing thats 4 points right there. Basically Vick has proven that rushing can make you a lock top 10 QB fantasy wise no matter how crappy your passing numbers are, and I bet his exceed Vick's of the last few years. So in short top ten is basically a lock, but no way he catches top 5. I mean Peyton/Palmer/Brees/Brady are going to put up huge numbers barring injury.

First, there are seriously lame leagues that only give you 4 points for a thrown TD? I have never played in a lame league like that and a TD is worth 6 regardless. Second, He will not be a top ten QB regardless.

are you serious??? most standard scoring has Passing TDs as 4 points and more people would probably lean toward 6 pts for a passing TD being lame...to each his own.... :dunno:

From Dodds at FBG's:

Vince Young (ADP = QB10, 75th overall) - Here is a situation that I hated projecting. Vince Young has a horrible team. His WRs are bad. His RBs are bad. Yet no matter how I slice it, I still think Vince Young will outproduce the projections I have for him. The team believes in him. He is one of those special guys that every player rallies around. I saw it last season. I saw it the year before as the Texas Longhorns went undefeated with Vince at QB. Vince Young is a winner. Forget the Wonderlic, his ability to read defenses, his awkward throwing motion, etc. His teams play much better because of him. So despite lackluster players at the skill positions, I see Courtney Roby, Eric Moulds, Roydell Williams, Bo Scaife and Ben Troupe somehow catching more passes than they should and vaulting Vince to elite levels again. I am only projecting Young to average 167 yards and a TD passing per game. If his legs yield the yards I suspect they will and he gets even modest help at WR and TE, he could be fantasy gold again this season. I am not betting against him.

--------------------------------------------------------------

This is the way I see it too.

In leagues where passing TD's are only with 4 points, I think Young has a good chance of being top 5. In my league last year, Vick was the 3rd best quarterback despite throwing for less than half the yards of the only 2 quarterbacks who finished above him. Young is comparable to Vick in the running game and has room to surpass Vick in the passing game. I know he doesn't have great weapons, but he didn't last year either. I think it's only natural to expect him to improve on how he did last year (which was very good for a rookie QB with little talent around him). Also, looking at his schedule, it isn't too difficult. He plays a lot of mediocre to poor defenses.

And for those who said that Tennessee does not have a good offensive line, think again. From what I've read this off-season, Fisher saying that this offensive line is the best that they've had in a long time. Out of their 3 rookie RB's, I think we should be able to expect at least one of them to step up to balance out the offense a bit. But know that Young is the guy that will make this offense go.

His team will not put him in a position to score enough TDs. Bottomline. Maybe next year but his value is way way inflated right now.

c'mon guys....way too early to tell. Is he the best 2nd year QB in the league? I'd say yes.

Was he drafted in 2006 with that expectation? yes.

will he be top 5 this year? No....but he can be top 10, and if/when he gets more games under his belt, he might be top 5 in a year or so.

Give the guy a friggin break, he has a better gun than Vick ever had, and he's more of a leader than 80% of the starting QB's in the NFL.

VY will be a bust. Def should line up to tee off on him every down. Bring the heat. No running game, no great WR, and everyone knows he will run the ball instead of throw.
