edjr 7,114 Posted October 2, 2007 Ok. couple things. Why do you have to be over 18 to view that? Why a suspension? Was a completely clean hit. WTF????
Eagles Green 34 Posted October 2, 2007 No clue about the over 18 thing. He did leave his feet on that hit. 20 games is excessive, but I think that was a pretty bad cheap shot.

It's not like he stuck out an elbow or a knee. I dunno, I don't see it as cheap.

Thin Spirit 0 Posted October 2, 2007 He left his feet, it's illegal, deserves a suspension. The league did the right thing in putting a stop to it right out of the gate, Steve Downie is an insanely aggressive player with a mean streak in him. He is super competitive, and absolutly hates to lose... he needs to learn to channel his emotion on the ice, or else he is in for quite a few suspensions in the NHL. A buddy of mine played hockey with him, I have met him and he is a super nice guy, however on the ice he is a complete animal. He was suspended 5-6 times in the OHL, including once for fighting his own teammate in practice. The NHL needs to lay down the law quickly with this kid. TommyGavin 790 Posted October 2, 2007 Steve Downie was sent Downie to the Minors .

sanders 0 Posted October 2, 2007 I haven't seen the hit but my guess is the 20 games was more due to all the head shots from last year. The NHL has to start doing something to get players to quit head hunting. A 20 game suspension will do it. While I don't think the hit itself probably warrants a 20 game suspension I believe the NHL has to do something to start protecting players or we are going to a lot of good careers ruined. Mephisto 15 Posted October 2, 2007 Devastating hit, but illegal. He led with the shoulder into McAmmond's face and at top speed, too. As bad as the contact was, the problem with McAmmond is that as he helicoptered - his head jammed into the boards, too. He left his feet which has been illegal for a long, long time. Thing is, in my opinion, had he NOT left his feet, he was coming so fast I think that they both would have broken right through the boards and probably right through the bleachers and out into the parking lot. Downie was focking FLYING.

I have seasons tickets for the Kitchener Rangers, and got to watch him play quite a bit last year... hell of a fire in the kid.

BMoney 0 Posted October 3, 2007 Steve Downie was sent Downie to the Minors . doesnt the AHL have a decision to make as far as letting him PLAY in the minors? he cant serve the 20 games unless hes on an NHL roster.... it was a bad hit..although i didnt find it to be bertuzzi-like dirty...just wreckless and not needed for a preseason game..he couldve still delivered a wallop without leaving his feet.. thats 1 difference between the nfl, mlb and nhl... in the nfl..starters rarely play... in baseball...games are played while guys are jogging in the outfield... in the nhl, guys are playing for their lives and beating the fock out of each other..clasic scene to see a brawl after that hit..and the guy is lying there motionless...they were kicking him around like a toy on the ice.. yeah, we are coming to the aid of our boy..never mind that we will step on him during this scrum..GB hockey
