In the upcoming December issue of Men's Health, Denver is again named the No. 1 drunkest city — and to put a capper on it, we're the "most dangerously drunk city." Colorado Springs comes in as the third drunkest city. Aurora is the 19th drunkest city. "Today, Colorado once again leads the nation in its attitude towards alcohol — but now, the mandate seems to be 'drink till you drop.'" writes Men's Health. The magazine came up with the rankings by factoring in "annual death rates due to alcoholic liver disease, as well as who's headed there by regularly downing five or more drinks in a sitting. Next, we factored in drunk-driving arrests Drunk City, Colorado Discuss Men's Health Magazine's confirmation of Denver's long-held title as "drunkest city." and the percentage of fatal accidents involving intoxicated motorists. Then, after tallying the MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) report card on state efforts to cut down on excessive drinking, we had our ranking and, for the state of Colorado, a invitation to AA." "You can make statistics say anything," says Rich Grant, spokesman for the Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau. "I can show you statistics that say we're the thinnest city, with the most sporting goods stores per capita, and the largest bike and trail system in the country. And I'm sure there are more liquor sales per capita in Las Vegas than there are here." I mean it totally figures. Colorado is, and has been, the nation's largest beer producer for quite some time. (Take that Milwaukee!) and that part about more liquor sales per capital in Vegas? Wrong. There may be more drinks served, but the overwhelming majority of those drinks are free! wiffleball 4,797 Posted November 19, 2007 Not to throw cold water on my own thread, but this one accident alone was probably one of the worst I'd heard in a long time. - And probably helped anectdotally in the rankings: Trujillo has pleaded guilty to driving drunk, speeding through downtown Denver and killing 39-year-old Becca Bingham and her two children, 4-year-old Macie and 2-year-old Garrison, on November 10, 2006. Trujillo says he went to at least five places the night of November 10, drinking beer and hard liquor at each place. Trujillo says he does not drink often. He says it is rare he even has a beer in the fridge. According to Trujillo's attorney, Rob Bernhardt, five hours after the accident, Trujillo's blood alcohol level was 1.35. Trujillo claims he did not drink after the accident, so Bernhardt says that shows he was drunk enough to not remember the incident. Family was crossing the street (as I recall) near where I used to work. Guy came out of nowhere. Hit them as the mom was pushing a stroller. Demolished the strollers. Really farking horrible story. Was that the one where the father lived and the kids and mom died? I had a few of my employees go to that funeral, they knew the family through their church, it was a horrible incident.
