edjr 6,594 Posted November 20, 2007 I agree leagues that allow pickups before Wednesday are completely lame. Not everyone sits by their computer all day waiting for an injury. I put a waiver wire claim in for him for 11 bucks and our WW starts Thursday morning. My league is a bunch of friends from my home town. A lot of them have families and lives, allowing pickups before everyone gets a chance to see what happend is totally unfair.
GrassyKnollSniper 0 Posted November 20, 2007 yeah, it sure is stupid to reward the guys who watch the game. WTF? I have never understood why you shouldn't be able to pick whomever you want whenever you want? I just picked him up in 3 out of 5 leagues. got beat by a minute in one and the other doesn't allow pick ups till the next morning. Which just rewards me anyway cause I will sit and wait for the moment to grab the guy... you play the game to win Mephisto, so why not let people win it? Why have an organized draft? Why not just draft whomever you want whenever you want?
Mephisto 15 Posted November 20, 2007 Part of the issue is that not all leagues are comprised of people who live in your household. In my case, I have league members across three of the four time zones across the United States. #1 - You prepare for the current week and make your roster adjustments accordingly. #2 - At least in my league, the week WW and FA period are in place just like a draft, giving the suckiest teams the first shot at improving their team. It's a commonly accepted theme. #3 - By having a WW period, you allow ALL league members to research, discover, digest information that results from this week's games and start to prepare to make roster decisions. My FA (free-for-all) period begins on Thursday during the week. The bulk of important and/or relevant information should be out by then. Further, to accommodate all three time zones, it starts at noon, thereby giving everyone a chance to be awake and ready to snag someone, should that be what they want to do. EST owners at noon, MST owners at 9AM. That's fair and accounts for people who have lives beyond hovering over their PC and watching every NFL game for a long run and that start pilfering free agents while people are at work, in bed, enjoying their families, etc. I don't mind leagues that DON'T have a WW (aka: weekly draft) process. It's ridiculous to have a FA process that is tantamount to a 24/7 quickie mart, where the loser jackass is sitting there all day and night with his finger on the trigger. If you're going to have a FA period only - some time should elapse so that ALL of us who are jackass FF losers to varying degrees - can login and be ready to all fight for the same MVP/1st-Ballot-HOFer within milliseconds of one another. Not only is it proper, that's a whole lot more fun for the league than the guy with a laptop strapped to his face like a feedbag 24/7. This... is the Gospel of Mephisto. Busted by the Feds 9 Posted November 20, 2007 Even a system of waivers until Thursday just ensures everyone who doesn't want to spend a waiver pick "hovering over their PC" as the clock turns to Thursday and it still becomes fastest mouse and keyboard wins. Wrong. Anyone who is allegedly worth anything to an owner will be gone via waivers before the "free-for-all" period opens. Additionally, as I already stated, a specific opening day & time of which everyone is aware gives everyone equal opportunity to be "hovering" if they so choose. If a player clears a waiver period of one (or more) days - then "hovering" really doesn't matter.

R8RMick 242 Posted November 20, 2007 Wouldn't be in a league that allowed ww pickups during games. I'm more interested in my league having some degree of competitive balance than making it a competition to see who has the fastest internet hookup. 24 hour period after the last game of the week concludes, with priority to worst record. First come, first served after that. Rewards those that pay attention, weighted toward teams that need the most help. NFL teams can't make moves while games are in progress, why should your ff team? Both my leagues now run the WW in this fashion. I was in a training wheels yahoo league a few years back that let you do mid-game pickups.
Busted by the Feds 9 Posted November 20, 2007 As long as the weakest teams are assured of getting the top waiver slots each week, that's fine. Are your leagues like that (just curious) ? I think it still won't work if the team that's undefeated happens to have a higher waiver pick than anyone else when a major injury to a player happens. However, we switched (late) to an auction format for the draft this year and will probably do several WW days with blind bidding against your pre-determined cap next year and do away with the worst-to-first WW. McPhreak 0 Posted November 20, 2007 I came in here thinking this was a 2-page discussion about Denver RBs. Boy was I wrong. I guess I'll go check the 19 other threads about Andre Hall.
idiotekniQues 0 Posted November 20, 2007 this method makes the most sense. should be a day or two after the games when waivers start, and there should be a priority granting method agreed upon pre-season.
wiffleball 4,790 Posted November 20, 2007 I feel badly. I traded S. Young to my friend for Plaxico Burress. At the time, I'm sure he thought he was being sneaky - Plax has been struggling with his ankle all year and it was reported that he may not practice the rest of the year. Sure he thought that Plax was on the downslide and Young was about to break out with T. Henry's suspension. Who knows? May still end up that way, but damn sure not this past week.
