phillybear 366 Posted December 21, 2007 Refs missed the false start on 3rd and 1. Â Â The refs have missed about 5 false starts on Navy. I am starting to belive that the fix is in. Like how they called back the big run by Mack on the last Utah possession on a questionable call, and Utah refuses to pass it. Drive was dead in the water. art schlichter's bookie 0 Posted December 21, 2007 Taking Fla Atl minus points for two units today. Â gl to all
JT 137 Posted December 21, 2007 NCAA Regular Season: 61-53-3Â Bowls: 0-0 Â Utah -7 vs Navy: LOSER Â Bowls: ATS 0-1 SU 1-0 Â Utah's conservative early approach cost us the cover in that one, but it's just the start of bowl season. Here's my pick for tonight: Â Â Florida Atlantic -2.5 vs Memphis: Not a lot of difference between these teams, though I think the Sun Belt offered better competition top-to-bottom than C-USA this year. Neither team will do much defensively, but Memphis is even more inept than Fla Atl on that side of the ball, ranking 110th vs the run and 83rd in pass efficiency defense. Â Fla Atl's motivation was mentioned earlier, and that's always a big factor in bowls, especially those where the teams are so evenly matched. Another strong determining factor the last two years has been performance vs common opponents. Yes, home/away, when games were played all enter into this equation. But last bowl season, the team that performed better vs common opponents was 8-2 vs the spread. In this case, Fla Atl beat Middle Tennessee St 27-14, while Memphis lost to that same squad 21-7. Â Â ETA: Got a busy morning, so thought I'd add my pick on the early game fwiw. Â Cincinatti -10.5 vs Southern Miss: There are always a couple bowl games, especially early on, where the difference in the quality of the teams seems glaring. This, to me, is the first of the bowl season. Cincy contended for a Big East title (and the bowl season will once again show the strength of that much maligned conference) well into the season. Southern Miss rebounded after a home loss to Rice to win just enough to get into a bowl game. The Eagles were expected to contend for a league title. Little was expected of the Bearcats. Southern Miss coach Bowers is leaving after 17 years on a sour note. Kelly has taken over at Cincy, turned things around, and is one of the hottest young coaches in the country. Kudos to those on this site that pointed out how good he was early in the season. Â Southern Miss can run the ball, but Cincy boasts a Top 20 run defense. They also do a very good job pressuring the QB, and have some DB's that play with a real swagger. They'll flat out hit you in the mouth. Southern Miss just doesn't have a strong enough passing game to keep up here. There's always the fear that the Eagles may come in with a "win one for the gipper" mentality, but that only carries you so far. This is a lot of points, but I think it's the first blowout of the bowl season. Â Good luck to all!
kcBlitzkrieg 29 Posted December 21, 2007 Bowl Season (ATS) 0-1 Â As was the case with the Utes last night the signs are all there for FAU tonight....lets hope for the correct result this time around. Â FAU -

Yer mom 2 Posted December 22, 2007 Greetings gentlemen, Â No write up tonight. Looking at the numbers here im getting about a 42-38 type game so I wont bother trying to go with a side, FWIW FAU is the team scoring 42 here. Hopefully I can be a bit more accurate tonight since I dont see either team trying to establish a run. Â FAU/MEMPHIS OVER 67 Â Good luck!!
greyhounds 0 Posted December 22, 2007 For what it's worth, I've seen each team play around 5 or so games this year. I will be really disappointed if Utah doesn't cover, but it's a long bowl season, so let's see what happens. Â I like Flor Atlantic tomorrow. I'll try to put together a writeup tonight or probably tomorrow. Â Good luck to all. Â Interesting.......No Play for Philly Bear Tonight??? He liked Fla. Atlantic yesterday but a No Play..hmmmm Good Luck to All!!!
phillybear 366 Posted December 22, 2007 Interesting.......No Play for Philly Bear Tonight??? He liked Fla. Atlantic yesterday but a No Play..hmmmm Good Luck to All!!!  Back on page one of this thread, I have a writeup on Flor Atl and a play on them for 2 units. I posted it last night.  Friday Florida Atlantic (-3.5) for 2 units  Florida Atl is seeing 59% of the action.  The two teams are fairly even in stats Flor Atl gains 413 yards per game, gives up 417 Memphis gains 447, gives up 440 but I am troubled by Memphis giving up 5.2 yards per rush. The Memphis defense sucked this year, partly due to injuries to several starting LB who will miss this game as well. Memphis also gains 5.7 ypp while allowing 6.1 ypp. So while they have outgained their opponents barely on the year, they are more susceptible to the big play. Memphis won their 6 games vs Div I opponents by a combined 29 pts, with one of those wins by 16 points. So they have been very lucky to win 5 games which put them in a bowl game. They have been lucky to be +9 in turnovers on the year as well. Mephis played a Sun Belt team earlier this year, blowing a huge half time lead to fall to mediocre Arkansas St 35-31. And trust me, Flor Atl is better than Ark St.  Flor Atl leads the nation in turnover differential at +19. This does trouble me as the have been a bit lucky this year as well. But I am convinced that the Sun Belt is as good as Conf USA this year, and possibly better, and a number of Sun Belt teams have either won or come awfully close to beating BCS teams this year; this is a conference that is rising quickly. Flor Atl did beat Memphis and put a big scare into So Florida. Flor Atl played a tougher schedule, including games vs Oklahoma St, Kentucky, South Florida, Florida, and Troy. And don't overlook the season finale of Flor Atl as a 15 point dog beating Troy to win the Sun Belt. Troy is a very good team, and would be very competitive in any BCS conference. But Flor Atl played them even in stats and beat them 38-32. QB Rusty Smith of Flor Atl set Sun Belt records with his season of 3,352 yards passing, 27 TDs, and only 8 INTs. Flor Atl is comfortable as a favorite this year, going 4-2 ATS.  In these early bowl games, you have to look at motivation. Being this is Flor Atl first bowl game ever, you can bet that Howard Schnellenberger will have the kids fired up. Based on my observations this year, Flor Atl looks like the better team, even though the stats are close. Memphis is below average defensively, but Flor Atl only allows 5.5 ypp to teams averaging 5.6 ypp. Memphis beat a bunch of horrible teams in close wins to get here. I suspect Memphis is a fraud and will lose this game by double digits.  Lay the lumber. Good luck to all.

JT 137 Posted December 22, 2007 Bowls: ATS 0-1 SU 1-0Â Utah's conservative early approach cost us the cover in that one, but it's just the start of bowl season. Here's my pick for tonight: Florida Atlantic -2.5 vs Memphis: WINNER Â Bowls: ATS 1-1 SU 2-0 Â Cincinatti -10.5 vs Southern Miss: LOSER Â Good luck to all! Â Bowls: ATS 1-2 SU 3-0 Â Well, that pretty much sums up my college football season. The only thing Cincy can do to screw up the cover after that 4th down stop is...a foolish turnover by a veteran QB in a situation where it was completely unnecessary to take any chances! Though truthfully, the way Mauk floated the ball around all afternoon, it's a miracle he didn't throw more INT's. Â Nevada +2.5 vs New Mexico: This one could be a grinder. NM should throw with a bit more success, Nevada should be able to run the ball effectively. They have two common opponents (both beat NM St and UNLV), and New Mexico actually handled them with more ease. But I have a hard, fast rule in bowls. Any Rocky Long coached squad will make the worst in-game decisions of any team. Clock & game management, play selection: honestly, he must be a better coach during the season when I don't see him or he wouldn't have a job. So for that reason, along with Nevada's superior running game, I'm on Nevada plus the points. ETA: ENDED UP BUYING THE HALF POINT TO GET THIS AT NEVADA +3 Â BYU -5.5 vs UCLA: UCLA is in disarray. No coach, horribly disappointing season. UCLA whipped them head-to-head this season. Two other common opponents were Arizona & Utah. BYU beat both, giving up a total of 17 points in the process. UCLA lost to both, giving up 34 to Az and 44 to Utah. Even with a coach they're a disaster. Â The Bruins have athletes; they always do. It spooks me a bit that their seniors could come out and play the way they're capable, and the kids will play to try and impress. But impress who? They had multiple chances to step up in the regular season and failed miserably. They're lost. BYU cruises. Â Good luck to all!
