phillybear 366 Posted December 22, 2007 College Bowls YTD: 1-1; -1.3 units Saturday Southern Mississippi (+11.5) for 1 unit WINNER New Mexico (-2.5) for 2 units WINNER UCLA (+6.5) for 3 units WINNER Waiting for lines since it looks like I am fading the public today. Might still upgrade a play or two. Cincy is seeing 74% of the action Nevada is seeing 63% of the action BYU is seeing 69% of the action. Quick summaries: So Miss is a strong bowl team recently. Features a balanced offense passing and a very good running game with Fletcher. Coach is pushed out the door, but well liked, and the kids are motivated to send him out a winner. Cincy quality wins this year were absolutely due to turnovers. They are a good team, but they let an inferior team hang around in a bowl game last year, wining by only 3 pts. Cincy wanted to be in a better bowl game, but were knocked down to this one, so motivation is clearly with the double digit dog. Ugly pick, but I think So Miss hangs around. New Mexico was 5-1 SU at home this year, and this is a home game for them. Both teams have good QB play and good offenses, but New Mexico has a very good defense, playing very well down the stretch, while Nevada's defense is awful. Nevada is an excellent team at home, but travel poorly. I will take the much better defense at home to win and cover. BYU lost to UCLA 27-17 earlier this year, despite outplaying them and outstatting them. This is not a good sign in the rematch. BYU is soiid defensively, but are not good offensively since losing John Beck to graduation last year. UCLA features an excellent defense that just helf USC to 17 points in their last game. QB Olsen returns for UCLA on offense, and that is a huge addition to the inconsistent offense. UCLA is being coached by their defensive coordinator this game, and is very well like by the players. If they want the guy to be their coach next year, they better play well, and I think they will. UCLA played the second toughest schedule in the country, and should be able to handle BYU. BYU only scored 17 pts vs Utah in the regular season finale, so realistically it's hard to expect them to score many today. I expect UCLA to win this game outright, but I'll take the generous points. Good luck to all.

Good luck to all. I agree with Southern Miss in this spot, 11.5 points looks pretty nice with a mobile QB, good ground game and playing for a coach getting ousted. I was at the UCLA/BYU game earlier in the season and BYU could have and easily should have won that game. If the Bruins didnt jump out to a (if I remember correctly) 20-0 lead they would have gotten smoked, they couldnt move the ball for shiit from about the 10:00 point of the 2nd quarter throughout the rest of the game. BYU moved the ball on UCLA's D with ease. They probably can today as well and im quite positive that Ben Olsen is not going to be playing, might want to check into that. Southern Miss +11.5 Good luck!! ETA: Whoa! Im confused. It looks like UCLA is going to go with Olsen. My cousin tutors a few of the Bruin players and he told me Olsen wasnt playing! And I can tease anywhere from 4.5 to 7 with 2 to 3 teams. Would like to understand how anyone could get that kind of line without it being a teaser. So who did Greyhounds tease with UCLA? A two team teaser buying 5 points typically goes for -125.

JT 137 Posted December 23, 2007 Bowls: ATS 1-2 SU 3-0 Well, that pretty much sums up my college football season. The only thing Cincy can do to screw up the cover after that 4th down stop is...a foolish turnover by a veteran QB in a situation where it was completely unnecessary to take any chances! Though truthfully, the way Mauk floated the ball around all afternoon, it's a miracle he didn't throw more INT's. Nevada +2.5 vs New Mexico: LOSER Guess Rocky Long's in-game decisions don't mean much if the other team is completely inept. Bowls: ATS 1-3 SU 3-1 BYU -5.5 vs UCLA: UCLA is in disarray. No coach, horribly disappointing season. UCLA whipped BYU head-to-head this season. Two other common opponents were Arizona & Utah. BYU beat both, giving up a total of 17 points in the process. UCLA lost to both, giving up 34 to Az and 44 to Utah. Even with a coach they're a disaster. The Bruins have athletes; they always do. It spooks me a bit that their seniors could come out and play the way they're capable, and the kids will play to try and impress. But impress who? They had multiple chances to step up in the regular season and failed miserably. They're lost. BYU cruises. Good luck to all!

phillybear 366 Posted December 23, 2007 Don't get to comfortable! Their offense sucks! True. I realize that I probably need a D/St TD in the 2nd Half to have a chance at a cover. Yer mom 2 Posted December 23, 2007 The question: At what point does one throw in the towel? Have you ever been so discouraged you wanted to cry but you say to yourself I aint goin out like that? So I got under 23.5 in the first half of the UCLA/BYU game and throw a decent amount of coin ($500) because im feeling extremely confident in it with no Olsen and 2 very good D's. I've got a few folks over for a little UCLA bowl get together since my family runs deep in UCLA alum. Im a bit buzzed and taking a brief overview at everyone like, I wonder what theyd think if they knew I had $500 on a bet here, not that its a ton of cash but it does kind of signify a problem. That covers dads, moms and at least one of my brothers gifts Im way too fockin riverboat, I dont use a conservative, intelligent monetary wagering system because im so fockin arrogant that I truely expect to win every bet. Funny thing is im not joking I expect to win everytime. My system is deposit $500 initially, bet $500 on the first, second and third bets then pump the brakes at $2000 and slowly choke out my book over the course of the season. For the past, shiit I dont know how many yeaars ive always won the first 3 so im on cruise control before I take it down to $200-$300 a bet. Then when I get far ahead, which is just about always, I may thorw a G on a game I feel 100% certain on and usually hit it. Anyways... So its 17-6, UCLA punting with about 27 seconds left in the half, just want to be sure that catch isnt botched on BYUs end before I go break the seal. Fair catch with under 20 seconds left....sweet! I go to the bathroom and not a minute later the house erupts... Not possible. BYU fair caught the ball inside their 10 and UCLA has no timeouts, BYU is taking a knee and going into the locker room.....hmmm...FOCK! Could they have botched the snap, fumbled and UCLA recovered? Please say no! I walk out to find out these no drinking, no sex, no gambling, no breathing non-Utah air mother fockers decided to run a FOCKING PLAY!!!!! WHAT!!! EVEN HAWAII WOULD HAVE TAKEN A FOCKIN KNEE AND GONE TO THE LOCKER ROOM WITH AN 11 POINT LEAD WITH NO POSSIBILITY OF SCORING FROM INSIDE THIER 10 AND UNDER 17 SECONDS!!! I must be dreamin! SIGH Anyway, sorry if I GFIAFP'ed there for a minute, just cant believe some of the shiit that happens in this game sometimes. The money isnt a killer its having to grab ankles when I wasnt in prison to begin with. Im drunk. I''l probably still thrwo tomorrow, but if not, I hope you gentlemen have a Merry Christmas! JT 137 Posted December 23, 2007 Bowls ATS 1-4 SU 4-1 Those who did well yesterday must be living far cleaner than I am. Two clearly superior teams (Cincy, BYU) each commit one stupid mistake that costs the cover. Ah well. Last bowl game until after Christmas. Maybe I should welcome the break. Boise St -10.5 vs East Carolina: Boise does everything better than East Carolina. Common opponent in Southern Miss, who Boise thumped 38-16 and Carolina lost to 28-21. Boise made the Hawaii trip earlier this season, and the players essentially selected this locale as opposed to staying home in Boise for their bowl appearance. The ECU defense has struggled mightily against every good offense it played, especially in the passing game. Boise is a good offense, though I'm a bit spooked by the suspension of their top receiver, Childs, from this game. Still, they have more than enough weapons against a really bad Pirates pass defense. The only place the Pirates excel is the turnover battle, an area in which they ranked 6th nationally. If Boise protects the ball, I can't see ECU scoring enough to keep pace. Hopefully, Boise isn't so disappointed by dropping down to this level bowl game that they lose focus. Hopefully, the Boise players haven't enjoyed their hand-picked locale so much that they come in without focus. That's a lot of hope, and it had me wavering on this game after yesterday's debacle. Boise will win this game regardless, and I'm going to count on their superior talent and experience, plus the notion that I can't have such sh!thouse luck in yet another game. Good luck to all! phillybear 366 Posted December 23, 2007 College Bowls YTD: 4-1; +4.7 units Sunday Boise St (-10.5) for 2 units LOSER Boise St is seeing 80% of the action, which makes me nervous, and we still haven't seen an underdog win a bowl game SU yet. However, Boise St owns the better offense by over a 100 yards per game and better defense by over 100 yards per game. That is a dominating advantage on both sides of the ball. I really don't think Boise St is going into this game too disappointed, as they lost very early in the year so they knew they were unlikely to go to a BCS bowl game. Since Boise St has a recent history of running up the score, I don't mind laying double digits. East Carolina is an OK team, but they are from the dreadful Conf USA, and despite So Miss getting the ugly cover for me yesterday, I feel like I must fade their teams this year in the bowl games based on principle. The WAC is a much tougher conference, especially at the top. Earlier this year, Boise St beat So Miss by 22, back when their first year starting QB was still trying to find himself. East Carolina is a run oriented team, but Boise St is ranked #25 in the nation vs the run. I can't see East Carolina keeping pace with one of the best offenses in the country. While Boise St plays in Hawaii every other year, this is a new experience for East Carolina and their focus is questionable. East Carolina is lucky to be in a bowl game at all. Lay the lumber. Good luck to all. Edit: College Bowls YTD: 4-2; +2.5 units
