Da Bomb 0 Posted June 4, 2009 You're not looking at the bigger picture if you think a Marion Barber or any other RB you're getting in the second round couldn't be easily matched at seasons end by a Marshawn Lynch, Pierre Thomas, or Moreno type of player that can be had 2-3 rounds later. BTW, i did consider this exact scenario looking at my 2.10 and upcoming 4.10 picks. and heres what i decided: 1) i did not expect one of those three RBs (or grant or k smith) to be there. and i was correct. there was not a RB left at 4.10 that i would have felt comfortable starting each week heading into week 1. 2) yeah i bet that 2 of lynch, thomas, moreno, grant, and smith DO end up landing up in the bottom of the top 10 where ive got marion barber. last year i made that gamble on thomas jones and looked like a genius. but do you know what else i did? i made that gamble in several leagues with darren mcfadden and ended up screwing myself permanently in that league. why take a gamble when i have a sure player? well... at some point, you do have to gamble, right? in this draft so far, i have basically avoided gambling on my draft board so far. i drafted 2 guys at RB that i have comfortably in my top 10. then i took manning who may not be #1 among qbs and may not be a mega value there but definitely will be a good top starter and someone to rely on. ditto with gates in round 5. i may not gain huge points on someone there, but i'll be gaining points on most teams at qb and te most weeks, and i certainly wont be losing games because of either of those two picks. at wr i only have 85 so far, a guy i took as about the #20 WR and feel very confident he'll finish in the top 20 this season. what that leaves me is an absolute mess at WR.... but the rest of the team basically done. i need a 3rd RB which, as youve said, i have aplenty to pick from over the next 3 or 4 rounds. other than that, i can just start throwing darts at WRs. you dont think if i pick a WR in the 6th, 7th, 9th, and 10th rounds that i can find two guys worth starting? or how about in the 12th and 13th as well? i dont even need to draft a backup qb or te, and i only need another mabye 2, 3 tops RB. so in the last 10 rounds, i can take about 7 more WRs if i like, and i only need 2 of them to score 100+ points. i like my odds on that. thats where i'll go ahead and gamble, with a team like that. and if, in one of my many later WR picks, i find antoino bryant 08 or eddie royal 08 or brandon marshall 07 or wes welker 07 or roddy white 07 or dwayne bowe 07 or ........ then heaven help the rest of the league as i add that player to peyton, gates, 85, and the RBs. and if i dont? well... i'll probably just trade for one then. To each their own and there is definitely more than one way to skin a cat. That's what's great about this mock...you get 12 guys who are all knowledgeable and you get to see the "why's" and "why nots" that go into the thought process. remote controller 143 Posted June 4, 2009 Thank you all.....for not taking the running back I really wanted at this pick!! I think Benson has great upside, new blocking back to open up holes for him, very little competition, a rookie who I don't think will take many touches away from him.....and he was excellent at the end of last season! I know, many of you will have issues with him, but that is based on his past and being in Chicago. IMO-a very good value pick at 5.10 to get a starting running back with no RBBC. I love Benson this year at this point in a draft. Great Value!

That's a great pic IMO robb... I was hoping he would sneak through to me in the 6th. I almost took in with my 5th but thought Benson had a better chance to sneak through than T.Jones. I agree with everything you said above about him. Having Palmer back this season should stretch the defenses more than last season too giving Benson more room to run, and one more year in the system. Da Bomb 0 Posted June 4, 2009 really think benson is an interesting pick. this is actually earlier than his current ADP but probably about where he'll end up. but tell me, what is so different between benson and a guy named rudi johnson that most of us happily took in the first round year after year? ok, so its not a perfect match. rudi put up 1300/12 every year on the ground and had a great OL, and i dont think anyone is expecting benson to do that. but if hes actually the starter (and why wouldnt he be on that team), why not 1100/9? at least? and its not like this guy isnt talented. after all he was once a top 5 pick. sorta like thomas jones sucked for a few years and then found his niche as a top 10 pick and still made good on all that talent. excellent pick. Ace08 11 Posted June 4, 2009 Likewise, for this format, I also think Larry Johnson is also a good #3 RB. Two good picks back to back for Vikings.
Da Bomb 0 Posted June 4, 2009 yeah, like LJ there too. he and benson would be my fallback 5th round RB guys if i had not been able to get a 2nd one earlier on. i was hoping to have a shot at one of the two at 6.10 but knew it'd never happen with all the RB needers out there. Vikings4ever 550 Posted June 4, 2009 RB depth is always important to me, and with the news about Westbrook, I really need a good RB3. I like LJ to have something of a resurgence this year. Not to his previous heights, but I think he can be a quality RB2 this year. he had a good YPC number last year (4.5). His biggest problem was not getting the opportunities when he was playing. I think the new coach will be willing to give him more this year.
remote controller 143 Posted June 4, 2009 Nice grab on Rivers. I mentioned 4 Qb's that I had on my board, 3 are now gone including McNabb. I didn't really want Warner for the reasons above (strictly vodoo), but really wanted to end up with McNabb or Rivers. Only 30 yards separated them last year, but Rivers did have 9 more Td's. Last year was 600 yards, and 12 Td's more, than Rivers had ever thrown for. I almost jumped on him for his toughness, and no game is ever over with him. I felt that he wouldn't repeat his feat this year. I feel LT scores more on the ground again. When I looked at the two of them, I felt that the improvements in the line and added weapons aided McNabb to increase his production this year. The 200 yards on the ground and 2 scores last year, showed that that was still available in his game when needed, now that he had his legs back. The addition of Maclin will really aid Desean and curtis. It was really close for me on these two, and I just wanted to lay out my reasoning. There is one more Qb left I could have lived with as my #1, and I will "sort of" regret my decision if he falls to 6.11.

I liked him better then Benson, and I thought Benson was a nice grab.
Da Bomb 0 Posted June 4, 2009 shocked that rivers went that late too. thought he and warner were the 4 and 5 QBs off the board, and thought both might be 4th round picks.
