mambokings 0 Posted January 12, 2010 I do not remember that. Dude had a nice little run for a few years. 26 Passing TDS won MVP? 12 QB's had 26 or more TD's this year. Back in 2002, 26 TDs was good. Don't forget, Gannon did that pre-rule changes on Illegal Contact. It was much harder to complete passes back then. The rules were changed in 2004 and it's no surprise that Manning had a career year as a result (w/a staggering 49 TDs). Even Fumblepepper had 39 TDs in 2004, as just about any QB since has had a chance to do the same. Ever since the NFL decided to put handcuffs on defenders it's become common to see QBs with 25+ passing TDs in a season. Yawn. Additionally, in 2002, he threw for a whopping 4,689 passing yards (which would be staggering even today). He also lead the NFL in passer rating. In terms of intangibles, Gannon was a model QB. He possessed the necessary mechanical skills to post great numbers and he brought strong leadership to the position. He helped mold that offense in to something special. He was first on the field and last to leave. A real "lead by example guy" and truly one of the most underrated to ever play the position.

Not only should they take away the illegal contact penalty, they should take away pass inteference entirely, offensive and defensive.

KSB2424 3,085 Posted January 13, 2010 Not only should they take away the illegal contact penalty, they should take away pass inteference entirely, offensive and defensive. The XFL failed for a reason. HTH
gocolts 300 Posted January 13, 2010 He also had like 10 games of 300+ yards passing. FF teams that get bonus points for 300 yards passing had a gem that year.
NAn 39 Posted January 13, 2010 He also added 3 rush tds that year. He had 4600+ passing yds, to put that in perspective... " only 5 times since 1999 has a qb had more than 4600yds. " it's a benchmark Peyton has never reached in his storied career. Raiders that year won 4 straight to open season, then had a 4 game slide. Sitting at .500 halfway thru season, many who had projected Raiders to do well, we're saying they were dead in the water. Especially going into Denver for 9th game of season v Broncos team that had their number and was 6-2. And Monday night no less. Gannon went 34 for 38 for 352yds/3tds on way to a 34-10 victory. He had several other great games as they only lost once more during regular season, went on to SB where they were beaten by the Bucs. He was at top or near the top of every key passing category that year: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/years/2002/leaders.htm I miss those days

enis_44 0 Posted January 13, 2010 He's from the era that created the "Don't ever draft a Qb early" myth. That was before 5-6 guys started jacking up 25+ Td's every single season. Now, you need one of those 5-6 guys or you are losing ground to the field.
