Don't forget, Gannon did that pre-rule changes on Illegal Contact. It was much harder to complete passes back then. The rules were changed in 2004 and it's no surprise that Manning had a career year as a result (w/a staggering 49 TDs). Even Fumblepepper had 39 TDs in 2004, as just about any QB since has had a chance to do the same. Ever since the NFL decided to put handcuffs on defenders it's become common to see QBs with 25+ passing TDs in a season. Yawn. Additionally, in 2002, he threw for a whopping 4,689 passing yards (which would be staggering even today). He also lead the NFL in passer rating. In terms of intangibles, Gannon was a model QB. He possessed the necessary mechanical skills to post great numbers and he brought strong leadership to the position. He helped mold that offense in to something special. " it's a benchmark Peyton has never reached in his storied career. Raiders that year won 4 straight to open season, then had a 4 game slide. Sitting at .500 halfway thru season, many who had projected Raiders to do well, we're saying they were dead in the water. Especially going into Denver for 9th game of season v Broncos team that had their number and was 6-2. And Monday night no less. Gannon went 34 for 38 for 352yds/3tds on way to a 34-10 victory. He had several other great games as they only lost once more during regular season, went on to SB where they were beaten by the Bucs.
