It's time for another summer of Look-Alike Player threads...if you're new to the Board, every few days during the summer, I will try to post a thread that lists two players who are very close in value in redraft situations. Simply vote for the player you feel should be drafted first and then add comments about your selection if you would like.

This is non-PPR for Look-Alike matchups that involve RBs, WRs, or TEs. Just standard point for every 10 yards and 6 for TDs.

Our 5th Look-Alike player matchup of the summer is: Brett Favre vs. Jay Cutler

Previous Results:

Pierre Thomas over Knowshon Moreno, 21-16.

Steve Smith (Carolina) over Steve Smith (NYG), 20-10.

Brandon Jacobs over Felix Jones, 11-7.

Calvin Johnson over Brandon Marshall, 13-11.

Thanks for your participation!!

I'm taking Cutler....Check out 2009 passing only stats

CUTLER 555 attempts 336 completions 3,666 yards 229.1/game 27td 26int

FAVRE 531 attempts 363 completions 4,202 yards 262.6/game 33td 7int

call me crazy, but I see last year as the peak of what Favre can do. Only 7int's - - that's too good to be true for consecutive years. I see his attempts being similar, but a bottom line not as pretty 3,900/27td's/15int

on the flip side

Is it possible Cutler throw's 26 interceptions again? Possibly, but I don't think so. I like his receiving corps, and we'll see what o-coordinator Martz can really bring to the table. I like the upside with Cutler this year 4,100/32td's/15int

I'm taking Cutler for his 2010 potential and offesnive scheme, and thinking last year was Favre's upside in the numbers category.

very close though

They may be close but I will take Favre. He can still chuck it and put up good numbers.

How the hell are these guys look alike players?

One is a 40 y/o QB who just came off the best season of his career, and is therefore likely to be over valued.

The other is a young QB who lead the league in interceptions but still put up top 12 fantasy points at his position, and now has Mike Martz leading his offense. Thus, Cutler is likely under valued like crazy.

The only thing these two have in common is that they could both easily put up top 10 QB numbers this year, but they are both still very cheap on draft day.

The "look-alike" moniker refers to their values looking about the same. Most people look at Favre and Cutler and see similar value even with the disparity in upside/downside.

This belongs on the dumba$$ board.

To your point on Martz: Martz has a way of getting Qb's killed so that might help or might not.

To your point on Brett: The team hasn't changed and his skills are still intact.

In 2006, Jon Kitna in a Martz offense put up more fantasy points than Tom Brady. Sure, he also gets QB's sacked, but his ability to turn really horrible talent into fantasy production is undeniable.

Sure Warren Moon made the pro bowl at 41, but he ain't the norm. Favre has skills, but you have to admit the two following things:

1) Favre's performance last year was one of his best, and he's more likely to come back towards his career averages in 2010.

2) His age puts him at a higher risk of being injured or falling off than a younger player.

Apparently reading the first sentence of people's posts and ignoring the last part is your strong suit? I realize they have similar ADP's, hence why I remarked on it as the last sentence in my post. For someone who talks so much trash, you'd think you'd be better at it.

For me, it comes down to scoring system. In leagues where interceptions DONT count, i'll take Cutler all day. In leagues where they do, give me Favre. Seems like alot of leagues these days are not penalizing turnovers. I don't get it but I am in 2 such leagues, 3 if you count the June Mock No Hassle :music_guitarred:

now before you all start saying Favre is a gun slinger and he cant have only 7 picks again, I ask you what has changed in Minny? ADP is still the main show and will still put up monster numbers and the team as a whole is still a top contender. Brett can play it just as safe as he did in 2009 and poach those 5 yard td passes you all ###### about :D

Cutler on the other hand, I expect to throw a high number of picks again. Especially with Martz having him air it out even more. Idk what there is to love about the Bears WR group. Looks like the same bunch that featured a new "sleeper" guy every few weeks. So while I expect him to throw alot of td's and for high yardage, i still expect the turnovers.

This was a great Close Call. I have to go with Favre. I feel favre will be more consistent weekly as he has a much better supporting cast, Cutler might have to knock a few out, but won't be able to keep up with Brett's consistancy. This will be colse but Brett will be the better Fantasy QB to own, and they will cost close to the same in a draft.
