Jeepz 0 Posted September 14, 2010 BJax will do great this year. No need for the packers to find anyone else but backups. They were grooming BJax to replace Ryan Grant anyway. See, I don't know this to be true. I suspect he was serviceable backup to a steady Grant. I just don't know if they were expecting BJax to be anything more than that. Look, I don't know, I'm just questioning for the future. For the now I do think BJax is serviceable and they'll just continue to throw the ball.
Sho Nuff 720 Posted September 14, 2010 Rebuilding at RB (not the team, obviously). They have the firepower to keep things moving with an aerial offense and an attacking DST. But if Grant is done for the season, and Brandon Jackson hasn't done much the past few years to challenge that, I suspect they're not looking to him to make the next step. I know nothing of the ATL guy, an undrafted rookie?, but it seemed like an odd move, so was wondering if there was more to it. I think they are looking at him to take the next step. Coaches have praised him big time this offseason. I think they want Jackson to step up and take the role. If he stumbles...I think they look for a different move in a few weeks when they can cut bait on Nance and let Jackson go back to the 3rd down back and backup. IMMensaMind 462 Posted September 14, 2010 Ted Thompson nearly never gives up draft spots to go get proven players; he builds from within or pulls players off practice squads. I suspect that Green Bay is pretty confident in Brandon Jackson (and he has looked decent when playing). I think they're very high on Starks, and are willing to plug the gaps until he comes off PUP. This Dmitri Nance may be such a player - they've very good at pulling players from other squads, and do so alot from the Falcon's squad (even as far back as getting Favre in that manner). I don't think Nance is going to be anything special, but they really don't need anything special in that role (and I believe many GB fans didn't think Grant was anything special himself: he wasn't elusive or fast - he was utilitarian). I think an average back can look pretty good when Rodgers is his QB. I think many fans believe that Jackson is an upgrade to Grant. I believe that this is the last we'll see of Grant as starter for Green Bay.
mambokings 0 Posted September 14, 2010 Brandon Jackson will be the man for this year. He's been in the system for years and can play every down (excellent pass blocking, pass catching). The Packers will bring in a body to rest him, but a Marshawn Lynch or anyone else they sign won't supplant Jackson in 2010. Next year and beyond? That might be a different story, depending on how well he does. But for now, he enters the starting role, knowing the entire offense, and the Packers don't even miss a step. You can't replace that intangible right away which is why I wouldn't even sweat Starks if and when he comes off the PUP.
Sho Nuff 720 Posted September 14, 2010 I believe that this is the last we'll see of Grant as starter for Green Bay. Why? Think Jackson will step up enough to make Grant expendable? Think that this injury will end his career or make him not ready by the start of next year?
IMMensaMind 462 Posted September 14, 2010 Why? Think Jackson will step up enough to make Grant expendable? Think that this injury will end his career or make him not ready by the start of next year? I do think that Jackson will be at least the equal of Grant, and I also know that Grant has escalators in his contract that kick in next year that Green Bay will not be willing to pay. By that time - combined with his age (which IIRC will be about 29 at that point) - will make him expendable. I think we hit the draft looking for RB again next year, IMO - along with some corners and D linemen.
Knowsome Bobarino 0 Posted September 14, 2010 I already have Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson, Adrian Foster and Javid Best as my backs. I have the #1 priority and if I pick Jackson up, it would only be for a defensive purpose only because the Grant owner has the #2 waiver and he NEEDS him. What do you think? PS, The SOB beat me this week too. I'd probably do this. Defensive moves are what separate the casual fantasy players form the elite. I presume this guy is in your division (Grant owner) since you played him in week one? Definatley do it if he's on your division. If nothing else you grab him and immediately ship him to some overzealous owner who might overpay and fill a void on your squad. Do it. Grab Jackson, IMO. Foghorn Leghorn 0 Posted September 14, 2010 This is VERY interesting. You have to also look at like Lynch, Larry Johnson, and possibly FWP here. Anyone else? Any chance they bring back Ahman Green, like they did last year?
Sho Nuff 720 Posted September 14, 2010 Any chance they bring back Ahman Green, like they did last year? Again doubtful, with signing Nance to take Grant's roster spot for at least 3 weeks, they would have to cut someone to sign Green. I just don't see that happening right now. Will be interesting to see if they then keep Starks and Nance, or if Nance just ends up being a warm body to bridge the gap. Either way B-Jax is the guy and the rest will only have value if he is injured.
fanfootballtn 33 Posted September 15, 2010 Id probably do it to block him Or hold out and hope someone more valuable comes in next few weeks Ive got #1 waiver and the Grant owner is sitting at #3 and he beat me this week. Unless Floyd and Mathews have Foster like halfs im going 0-2 and will be 2 games behind in my division already so im not letting him get his hands on Jackson I'd probably do this. It's a done deal after the out for the season report. I'm weak at WR and I am going to drop a defensive player to pick him up and offer one the my backs for a #1 WR. Also for those who are thinking about picking him up. I read an interesting article about Jackson. McCarthy has supreme confidence in Jackson. No longer the deer-in-headlights disappointment he was during his rookie campaign, the fourth-year rusher flashed increased assertiveness throughout training camp and the preseason. The Packers’ head coach was so impressed with Jackson’s maturity, he remarked four weeks ago the vice-back could handle the load if needed. From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel: "Brandon Jackson to me is an every-down back," McCarthy said. "(He) is a good special teams player, too. He's a complete football player, and if we had to play all three downs with him, I wouldn't even blink." This offseason, Jackson revamped his workout program and changed his diet, cutting out all junk food, and reported to training camp in the best shape of his career. That combined with the experience he has gained has boosted the team’s confidence in him. That’s a change from last season, when the Packers re-signed veteran Ahman Green off the street halfway through the season to back up Grant while limiting Jackson to third-down duties. “Obviously, there’s been some water under the bridge, and I like what he’s done,” offensive coordinator Joe Philbin said. “He’s been a reliable player, very steady, and he’s had some productive games carrying the football, albeit not frequently in the last couple of years. I thought he did a good job (on Sunday), and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can do.”

He is a late round rookie pick....he missed all of the preseason...do you really think the Packers are going to bring him up and put him in now? I highly doubt he contributes this season at all. Agreed. The Packers may bring him off the PUP when he's ready, but it's not as if he'll be able to contribute much this season after missing so much time and he won't be a factor at all if Jackson manages to provide decent production. Sorry, I didn't think I said anything about Starks contributing? I said he had no value at all unless B-Jax was injured. Anyways my main point was that I really don't see the Packers making any additional moves for the next couple weeks.
