UFC 128

Favorites on the left.

Brenden Schaub vs. Cro Cop - Cro Cop hasn't looked good in years. Schaub is an athlete that improves each fight. I go Schaub all day.

Pick: Schaub 2nd round TKO.

Nat Marquardt vs. Dan Miller - This was Sexyama but he withdrew being from Japan and all. Marquardt is a choke artist but he beats guys he outmatches. Marquardt has way better stand up.

Marquardt by UD.

Jim Miller vs. Kamal Shalorus - This is a step back for Jim (Dan's brother) Miller. Shalarus is a WEC guy that came over. Shalarus is a decorated international wrestler. Strong guy that hasn't lost yet but has 2 draws. Miller has only lost to Edgar and Maynard I believe. Miller should basically be one fight away from a title shot, not Shalarus.

Pick: Miller 2nd round rear naked choke.

Urijah Faber vs. Eddie Wineland - This is basically a mismatch. Wineland is on a decent streak. But in teh 135 and 145 divisions the 7th best guy is so far from the top 3 or so in terms of skill.

Pick: Faber 1st round rear naked choke.

Jon Jones vs. Shogun Rua - Yet another good LHW title fight. Another one where you really could see anything happen. Jones will not want to stand with Shogun, if he does he will get KO'd. Jon Jones is going to look to throw Shogun to the mat and wear him down or drive elbows home. Problem is Jones has never faced a guy like Shogun yet. Shogun very aggressive BJJ and has great ability at getting back to his feet. I think Jones is the favorite because Shogun is coming off another knee injury. I could see this going either way. Shogun could KO him, could submit him, Jones could be too much physically, Shogun could not be totally recovered, Jones could be just the next big thing and a whole different level of fighter. All I know is Shogun has the experience and more ways to win. So I go that route.

Pick: Shogun 2nd round KO.

Thats not the greatest night of fights, but the main event is amazing.

Maybe this will be like the Lesnar - Carwin event. Great main event draw but terrible card on paper. Ended up being one of the best PPV's I have seen as all the undercard fights were entertaining. Just don't say there's a co main event here dana!

Only way Jones wins on 1 month to prepare for a legend like Shogun is if Rua is injured still. Shogun has the expereince of fighting ... well everyone worth a damn at his weight class and beating almost all of them. Jones while incredibly talented hasn't fought anyone remotley close to Shogun in talent and is still growing. Though I think Jones loses I still think Jones is the future of the division in a year or 2.

Yeah its usually these cards that look like crap that are the most entertaining.

Also....have you noticed there is an inverse relationship between the number of tattoos a guy has as compared to how good he is?

Typically....the more tattoos you have......the suckier fighter you are.

IMO though it's dumb to have a main event like this in the middle of the tournament.

I am really really looking forward to the Jones Rua fight.

People are actually writing Rua off. Are they crazy?

Yes, I understand Jones is a different breed of fighter, he can overwhelm you on the ground...but looking good against Hammil and The Janitor and Bader doesn't mean you will look good against Rua.

I see Rua chopping Jones down with leg kicks and defending the takedowns and taking this fight in a decision.

The only way Rua stops Jones takedowns is with a loaded shotgun and a 10 second headstart before Jones is told that the fight has started. I'm just sayin'.

Do you see how much Jones like to stick his front leg out during fights?

4 or 5 kicks into the thigh and Jones will not have the leg power to spring for a strong takedown.

Double :shocking: :shocking:

Well I don't think Jones has the power to knock shogun out. But Jones has a great ground game so why is a sub out of the question? If Jones stands with him he can't win the fight an will get knocked out.

I'm just pissed it's on during the games or I would order it for this fight alone - as it is I guess I go to BW3's again but I doubt they show it now. Would you know if BW3's is showing this one?

I don't know. Shogun is just a BJJ ace and Jones is really new to the game. I could see it if it is late in the fight and Shogun is worn out and Jones throws on a choke with his long ass arms. Sort of in the way Forrest was able too. But anything from a complete gassed Shogun, I don't see him getting sub'd.

If Jones were to win I see him TKOing from GnP. If Shogun were to win I see a submission or KO.

Key for Shogun is coming in healthy. I doubt we can bank on it at this point. A lot of people don't realize that Shogun was unhealthy for the last Machida fight. He ended it in the 1st so everyone believes he was 100%, but I believe he was close to pulling out of that fight.

Shogun is pure talent. Few guys have talent like him in this sport. Jones really doesn't compare with him at this point. If Jones wins it will be just a phenom show. Superior athlete, size, physical tools, health, and good enough not to get caught. It is weird. UFC has some big 205ers, but small guys have dominated recently. Rashad, Machida, and Shogun could all make 185, Shogun being one of the smaller 205ers in the UFC.

- Shogun Rua's kick registers at 2749 lbs of force (39 miles per hour)

- Shogun Rua's kick was the hardest single strike they've ever recorded in the lab

A few of those, Jones will not know how to use that leg.

Does it say somewhere that Jones has to let Rua land a few? I mean, if it were the way you were speaking the "strikers" would just KO wrestlers before the wrestlers could take them down.

If Jones likes his chances better standing, he'll keep it standing unless he gets KO'd.

If Jones wants the fight on the ground, it'll be on the ground. He may get subbed on the ground, but Rua doesn't have a choice whether it goes to the ground or not. It's basically up to Jones.

I'll take Jones by 1st round stoppage, on the ground.

The more I watch the less I like Jones. He and Evans are both from Western NY, so I have tied to back them. But Rashad is a homo and Jones has this weird cockiness too him that is pretty annoying.

The more I think about it the more I want Shogun to win.

Like I said before, I have no clue what will happen in the fight, and wouldn't be shocked with any outcome other than a boring fight.

Schaub via 1st round TKO...Cro Cop just doesn't care anymore.

Marquardt finishes Miller in the 3rd, first guy to do it.

Jim Miller wins via a Fitch-like decision.

Faber wins via late 1st round stoppage after feeling Wineland out for most of the round.

Jones via however the fock he wants. But I say him and Rua dance around for the first round with Rua throwing some kicks til Bones gets his timing down for his takedowns. Jones takes him down a minute into the 2nd and finishes him either with GnP or some weird choke.

Yup, no way he could win a standing battle with a 10 inch reach advantage...INCONCEIVABLE!

Most likely what happens is what I said will happen where he times a Rua leg kick, takes him down and it ends a minute or two late and Shogun has a few extra bones in his face because the existing ones have been seperated. Shogun is vastly overrated and has never faced an athlete like Jones.

Striking you could say they are egual but Jones has the God given gift of his reach.

Clinch, yeah Shogun has good Muay Thai but Jones has already shown his propensity to use Elbows and Knees in every situation not to mention his outstanding Greco-Roman throws.

Wrestling...don't even go there.

Jui Jitsu...I'll give this one to Shogun but Jones won't be in positions to get tapped out, instead of being able to look for an armbar or anything else he'll be covering up from the HELL-bows raining down on him.

Conditioning, Rua has shown up out of shape to fights before (Coleman) and used injuries as an excuse, sounds like a convienent one for this fight meanwhile Jones has been "in-camp" for months ever since he started prepping for Bader.

Shogun fanboys will make excuses based on injury for their PRIDE-era hero while Jones continues on his path of potentially GOAT.

Rampage , Overeem , Lil Nog , Coleman , Machida, Lidell might disagree with his being overated. Few MMA fighters can boast they beat 6 people of this caliber and I am sure I am missing 1 or 2.

Jones has beaten noone close to caliber of people Shogun has beaten already.

Striking you could say they are egual but Jones has the God given gift of his reach.

damn you really said this huh. Umm Shogun is equal to or a better striker than anyone in the UFC not named Anderson Silva. Jones doesn't have nearly the power to stand with Rua.

Jones continues on his path of potentially GOAT.
let's let him actually beat someone of consequence first shall we before we crown the guy..

Rampage turns down this fight because he's content just making money and co-headlining fights...no heart.

Overeem...really? A guy who ballooned from Middleweight to Heavyweight in 3 years time fighting solely outside of promotions that tested strictly for steroids? Guys a focking roidhead coward.

Lil nog...should've lost to Brilz and did lose decisively to Bader who Jones man-handled.

Coleman? He was 45 YEARS OLD WHEN THEY FOUGHT!!!

Liddell...40 YEARS OLD WHEN THEY FOUGHT!! Not to mention the fact that this was obviously during the time period where Chuck had gone 1-3 prior to this fight and was wayyyyyy past his prime.

Machida...nice win, but he couldn't put it away the first time and needed 25 minutes to get his timing down to win the second time. Jones won't give him almost a half hour to get his timing down, he'll finish the focking job.

Nice try putting up Shoguns "resume" can't wait to hear the excuses due to injury and the long layoff on Sunday morning.

Although Jones has a good shot of winning, you are a UFC hype donkey. The way you talk you would think Jones has held titles and beat the likes of Rampage, Machida, Overeem, Lil Nog and BJJ titles...er wait thats Shogun.

To say Shogun is overrated is laughable when he is actually underrated. Besides Jones who would you say is better than him at 205? Shogun gets no pub while Jon Jones gets parades for beating Ryan Bader...

"Stand up you could say they are equel" funniest thing I have ever heard. Because Jones throws some weird strikes? And has had to take down wrestlers with no stand up. Hasn't finished anyone in the UFC standing....thanks for the laugh..

No Rampage didn't want the fight on 1 months notice against a guy that beat him already. I really doubt he is content with "co" main eventing - I will say it pissed me off that Rampage didn't take the fight as he is my favorite fighter.

Overeem might be roided up I don't know - coming to UFC will show that though. He has been pretty dominant lately.

Also Shogun has one of the best "resumes" out there in the UFC - Jones has done nothing yet..

Jones might win and is a really good young fighter but to act like Shogun is some overated bum is just stupid

That's right...except two of the fighters Shogun beat on his immaculate, superdeduper resume, were guys past the age of 40 and nowhere near title contention...FACT. The FACT that he fought Machida for 25 minutes to get his timing down and only then was he able to beat him, the FACT that he fought Overeem before he miraculously packed on 80 pounds of solid muscle in 3 years while going through the calorie-incinerator that is professional MMA training, oh yeah and the FACT that the 6th guy mentioned was lil Nog who got dominated by Bader who was subsequently dominated by Jones. Not to mention the FACT that lil Nog got thrashed by a fringe top 15 LHW Brilz for 3 rounds and somehow managed to pull out a decision victory.

But hey go ahead and tug on Shoguns nuts some more, I can't wait to hear how it was the long layoff that led to his loss on Sunday morning, I'll make sure to log in to read that.

Most of the facts you try to bring up are opinions or just totally untrue.

Rampage for instance. He didn't accept the fight because he needed to shed 45 lbs in 6 weeks. Why would anyone do that vs. a guy like Shogun? Jones was able to take the fight because he was in shape. His camp most likely brought him down a little rather than anything close to being off weight by close to 50 lbs.

Only 23 but have been watching non-stop since the Chuck/Randy trilogy started, plus I was a pretty good wrestler and have been practicing BJJ/Muay Thai the past year so I think I know what I'm talking about. But hey you're the only MMA "expert" here on the board and are wrong on your predictions all the time, figured I'd give it a shot.

If you can't see the similarities between guys like Jones and GSP then that's your fault. Writing is on the wall and I guess we'll see who's correct in about 20 hours.

My whole opinion on MMA is this... there were the Level 1 guys like Royce and Severn who were great at one thing and nothing to brag about at others. Then came the 2nd generation with guys like Matt Hughes, Vitor Belfort, big Nog, Lil nog, Randy, Chuck, and a whole slew of others who had one thing they excelled at and were pretty good at a bunch of other disciplines. Now we are entering an era where guys have been studying this game for a long time and while they might have an extremely strong base in one era (i.e. Jones with his Greco Roman Wrestling, Anderson with his Muay Thai, Cain transcends this with his extreme proficiency in wrestling and kickboxing etc....) there are a ton of strengths to compliment those invulnerabilities(is that a word) now is the age of the true Mixed Martial Artist and I don't see Shogun as one of those people.

His wrestling is too suspect, his striking is good but honestly how do you compete with a 7 foot wingspan? And while he might go for a bazillion leg kicks...his wrestling is so weak that only a fool could see him not being taken down in the process.

Now here is where my opinion enters, Jones is a gigantic LHW and someone who I don't think will be able to stay at 205 for very long. I don't see ANY scenario here Bones gets swept or submitted from the top position and only see him raining down knees to the body to soften Shogun and elbows to finish him from the top position.

There you go facts and opinion all rolled into one conivenent package.

There is no where to even start on your posts when you don't even know where I'm coming from to start with.

I picked Shogun, but I said it is basically a pick'em fight. You are the only one here calling this fight lopsided in either direction. I'm fully aware that Jones has a good shot of winning. If he doesn't win tonight he will hold belts in the future.

How you compete with that wing span is taking shots to give shots. Other than a spinning elbow that landed perfectly on Bonnar, I can't recall Jone hurting anyone standing. His reach is impressive. But this isn't boxing. Shogun has the style to counter any reach he lacks in this fight. Leg kicks for starters. Then his aggressive nature ables him to get on the inside. I know that Shogun isn't afraid of Jones' stand up in the least. He would go through wars just in practice at Chute Boxe Academy. Trust me, Jones may stand for a little bit to test the waters, but his and Greg Jackson's plan is to take it to the ground as quickly as possible. From there who knows what happens. Jones has never faced a guy with Shogun's BJJ.

You love to discredit Shogun for no good reason. You act as if Jones is the best fighter in the world...without being tested. If Shogun isn't that goo and is overrated what does it say about the division? A division that has been labeled the best division for years.

Shogun's advantages: striking, BJJ, experience.

Jones' advantages: athletic ability, physical frame, wrestling.

It should be a good fight. Either guy could dominate or it could be a close one. But to act like Shogun is a bum of a champion is ridiculous. Perhaps Jones' is the next big thing. But i'll wait to crown his ass and I'm not going to act like everyone else in the division sucks.

Also to act like multiple blown knees are "excuses" is quite a wild idea. No one bats an eye when a RB gets even 1 blown out knee. Everyone just expects him to never be the same. Now look at Shogun who ok doesn't need to run and cut, but he only needs to slam his leg into heavvy bags during training and drive leg kicks home during fights. He isn't full of any excuses. He was robbed in teh first Machida fight and then proceeded to just KO him in the first round of the rematch.

I would say Jones is going to be another Spider but I thought that about Machida when he looked unbeatable able the Rashard fight. I will say I can't after this see Jones losing to Evans or Rampage.
