Anything out of GB regarding the Grant/Starks split

Recommended Posts

Ok, I am not following. I agree that Starks played well last night but there are still issues:

1. He only got a slight majority in carries (12 vs Grants 9)

2. He didn't catch any passes & Grant only got 1

3. The offense obviously will spread the ball around a lot

4. He only had 57 yards.

Yet now you are comparing him to a back who had 1600 yds, 13TDs and was the only real offensive threat on his team last year.

You have a reason to be encouraged but at this point I am encouraged to the point I can start him as a 3rd RB in some weeks.

No, i'm saying 'IF' Grant gets hurt Starks have POTENTIAL to be a top 5 fantasy running back. The reason Grant never cracked the top 5 was his inability to catch and be involve in the passing game (ala Brandon Jackson).

Last year, Starks did get a chance to be a featured RB for GB. Here were his stats:

Regular Season: 29 rushes for 101 yards 0 TD's. 2 receptions for 15 yards and 0 TD's.

Playoffs: 81 rushes for 315 Yards 1TD. 1 recetions for 3 yards and 0 TD's.

And that was with Starks starting. He had a whopping 3.6 yards per carry average and doesn't catch the ball out of the backfield (ppr?).

Even IF Grant gets hurt, it's not like he's a monster waiting to be unleasahed. You people are funny. :overhead:

1) He was a rookie.

2) Playoffs games are substantially different from regular season games. Opposing defenses are far superior.

How many receptions does James Starks have in his NFL career. He's played like 7 or 8 games now (of decent playing time).

I'll give you the answer. Three.

He's more BJGE than Arian Foster.

My impression is Starks is the RB you want here. I just don't see top 10 numbers though, Rodgers is just such a good QB and they have so many recieving weapons they will be a pass first team (maybe late in season with poor weather they balance it out more but for now they will air it out). Watching the game it felt like Starks got the important carries and he was in a 2:1 split with Grant. The touches did not back up that impression Starks 12run/2rec and Grant 9run/1rec so actually pretty even, but I can't remember any Grant plays that stuck out.

Starks did all right in pass protection but that one play fake he tried to sell it so hard he was too close to the line to get back out and pick up the blitzer. It was actually kind of cool to see how much he cared, you could tell by his body language he was scared he got Rodgers killed and ran over to help him up and pounded his own helmet. Although if he keeps letting Rodgers get hit like that he will be the backup in no time.

Actually, the answer is five, not three. Again, last year was his rookie season. Last year, Brandon Jackson was the 3rd down back.

I'm not one that thinks Starks would be a top 10 back if Grant was out, but playing on a very good GB team, he'd be a RB2 with RB1 upside, IMO. And how about you stop acting like you're the only one that knows anything about football. YOU'RE NOT!

A. You're depending on an injury to Grant

2. Starks averages less than ONE catch per game. Fact.

III. Common misconception in fantasy football. "If player A gets hurt then player B gets all the carries". It doesn't happen that way. If Grant gets hurt, then Starks does get slightly more carries, but the third string guy steps up and gets carries. Kuhn would then get more carries in short yardarge and Alex Green would get burn too. That's how it works. RBBC is the norm now.

Not many rookie RBs set the world on fire. I would expect Starks to have a much better year in 2011, and be the top GB back. Perhaps he can crack the Top 15 - Top 5 seems a bit silly considering all the weapons GB has.

The guy was comparing him to Arian Foster. Who...ummm....was a rookie last year.

Don't get me wrong. I own James Starks in one of my leagues. However I just find it funny the delusions of grandeur people have after one game where he had 57 yards rushing and one TD with no receptions. After a season where he averaged less than 4 yards per carry.

Starks will never be a STUD fantasy football player (especially not in PPR). But, he most certainly can be very useful.

As it stands now, he's a flex option. On par with BJGE. If something does happen to Grant and Starks gets more than 20 carries per game he could venture up to RB2 status. That's his ceiling though.

Those thinking he is going to single handidly lead you to fantasy glory are..well...funny.

I'm not depending on anything. I'm simply saying "If" Grant were out, Starks value would be much higher.

"2. Starks averages less than ONE catch per game. Fact."

Although I know this to be true, your idea of fact isn't always 100% based on your total reception answer, now is it?

Why do you numbskulls post erroneous things on the internet, yet act like you know everything? Foster was NOT a rookie last year buddy.

So for your result to come true all you need is:

1) Grant goes down w/ injury

2) GB doesn't have another RB that would take some carries

3) GB only plays non-playoff caliber teams

4) Starks gets involved in the passing game even though he hasn't shown that skill so far.

Ok, I agree if those three happen Starks could be top 10. Of course the same could be said about a lot of RBs around the league.

You guys are so silly.

In 2009 Grant finished 8th overall and missed the top 5 by 21 points (150 yards,1 TD). This team is far better than 2009 and Starks is more talented than Grant.

If Grant goes down, i have little doubt Stark can put up top 5 numbers.
