A Different Take on Tebow.......

Recommended Posts

I don't believe in Tebow because I think defenses will learn to stop his running and force him to pass- which he clearly is inept at. Until then, he will get away with doing what he's doing as long as the Bronco defense can keep games close and give him a chance in the 4th quarter.

While I am not at all into religion, I do not hold that against him or even factor that into his success or possible demise. With that said, I do not believe for one minute that his faith is at all related to his success. That is my opinion, just as the contrary is that of many other football fans. However, I would argue that MANY players in the NFL are religious. Perhaps not to the extent that Tebow is (unless they just don't get portrayed as he does), but plenty other players have 'faith' and we're not talking about their success/ failure. And yes, I understand that Tebow is the hottest topic right now...but he's not the first player to openly reveal his strong religious sentiments.

If and when he fails, what will the explanation be...God wanted it that way?

If he somehow continues to be successful (yes, obviously I doubt this), how will this be explained? That his faith, not his own innate ability, strength, intelligence and hard work led to this?

Disclaimer: I have not had my coffee yet, so if I didn't articulate this quite the way I should have I apologize. Also, I have been refraining from saying anything because I do have strong feelings about this and I am really not looking to offend anyone.

Sperri40, I think you did an outstanding job of articulating your position, and I tend to agree with it. This may be of interest since you say you are not at all into religion, and I personally am a person who is defined by his faith (Patmos is the isle of Patmos, the island where the Apostle John was sent to live his final days, and where he transcribed the amazing Book of Revelation).

In the brief messages posted here, it is difficult for me to tell whether people are sincere, sarcastic, or trying to be funny (remarks like Tebow is the antichrist, etc.). What I do know is that people are turned off by insincere religious folks, and I don't blame them. Many people turn to religion to "get God's help/blessings." This is a very selfish motive and both God and people see through this. The true believer is grateful for Jesus dying on the cross and providing the way to spend eternity with Him - they then spend the rest of their earthly lives serving Jesus as their King. This is true belief and commitment, and it is a small percentage of people professing to be Christians who truly are. I don't know Tim Tebow, but he appears to be the real deal. I don't see him as a professional QB, but I do see that he is being provided a stage to live out his faith, and the name recognition he is receiving now will enable him to be an effective communicator of the gospel to many throughout his life. The Bible tells us that God will use His people to forward the cause of His Kingdom, not to simply reward individual believers because they believe.

True... if nothing else, he has been given an opportunity to spread the gospel on a national stage. Whether it annoys the non-believers or not isn't really an issue. Although, If I went on a national stage, peddled Satan and sacrificed goats... It probably wouldn't get the same warm response. I'm fresh out of goats anyways.

I think most people are some combination of 'sincere, sarcastic, or trying to be funny.'

And yes, you are right in that people are turned off by 'insincere religious folks.' I guess the obvious reason is that these people claim to have faith in God, live a certain way and then do something illegal, immoral, etc. It's hypocritical. I am not claiming to be perfect by any stretch, but obviously when you publicize the fact that you are a person defined by religion, I think people will hold you to a higher standard.

Anyway, I digress! Haha...

I respect Tebow as a person and I don't think he will be one of those aforementioned religious-types who ends up caught doing something illegal/ immoral. Of course anything can happen and the way things are developing, I wouldn't be surprised if someone intentionally attempts to defame his character somehow. However, as I previously stated I think he will have to learn how to throw or defenses will rip him apart.

Exactlyyyyyyyy well said...i cant determine if people here are trying to be funny..,sincere or whatever ..,what i do know is the bible says "my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge" & at some point in everybody's life every knee will bow & every tongue will confess Jesus is Lord ..,and from there it's heaven or the lake of fire...,people can make fun of Tebow for being a virgin or whatever else ...,i got much respect for the man..!!!

So I'm sitting on my porch after watching the end of the Jets/Bronco's game. Having a cocktail and trying to figure out WTF is going on in the NFL lately. We have the Ravens sweeping the Steelers then laying turds when the play the bottom feeders, the Lions and the Bills look afire early and now look like an entirely differnt team has taken their places, the Bengals have a good record and I really can't find any of them to loathe since they cleaned house. then we have this Tebow thing. A freaking option QB with the throwing accuracy of chimp on crack winning games and a fan base that is starting to resemble an NFL Jonestown singing his praises.

Then it dawns on me, couldn't be any more obvious but that what makes it so hidden. 2012 is right around the corner. The end of days are upon us and nobody sees that Tebow isn't a cute sports story with just a touch of that "magic" that people sometimes speak of. Oh no folks, its much darker than that. Tebow is one of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse. The first one to be precise. That he came to play for the Bronco's was no draft day misstep. He had to go to the white horse team. It is all as foretold.

“I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest.” This first horseman likely refers to the Antichrist, who will be given authority and will conquer all who oppose him. The antichrist is the false imitator of the true Christ, who will also return on a white horse.

Actually this realization makes me feel better about things... Otherwise I have no freaking idea what is going on.

Now we got John 3:16. This guy was onto something. :o
