The NBA Draft Thread

Sullinger is great since you have Garnett there to replace him when he retires.

Fab Melo is a 7 footer with no offensive game, no foot speed, who has only played zone and doesn't rebound well. Doc is a very good defensive coach, and there are plenty of vets to help him learn, but the kid is dumb as a sack of assh0les. He isn't/wasn't ready to come out, but he had no choice because he'd have been ineligible if he went back to school.

Best case is you replaced Perkins and Big Baby Davis. Worst case is you drafted two guys who aren't playing basketball in three years.

For what your roster needed, the guys on the board, and where you picked, I'd give it a D+.

Lol Sullinger is nba ready and was BPA. PJ3 is an athletic slasher with questionable IQ. Jeff Green healthy already fills that role. Melo worst case is defensive specialist of bench, likely Perkins 2.0.

B+ grade. Got top 10 talent for a bargain and got a big man w upside.

cant agree with you here. Im not expecting the world of either player but given their needs (rebounding, size, jump shooting) I think the Celtics did pretty well. As i've said, Sullinger is an NBA ready player with a high IQ whose health concerns are far less than Jones. Fab Melo is a big shot blocker who will get to improve his rebounding skills under the mentoring of Garnett.

It's not like either player will be asked to start. Unless they want Garnett back at the 4 and Melo starts to guard the rim. Or they let Bass go and Sullinger fills his role with better rebounding. :dunno:

You are certainly entitled to your opinion and you know your basketball but I definitely can't agree with the comment about their team needs. IMO the only need they didn't fill was a shooter to replace Ray Allen. But you can't do it all. They could always go after a free agent now that KG costs them less.

I didn't like Sullinger last year. He's not nimble and quick like Davis was. He bulled through people...and then decided to lose weight and become less of a bull. He's slow, he's not agile, he's short, he's useless on defense. He has added a nice jumper, but if you want a guy with injury concerns to stand and shoot jumpers as your 4 man, at least Perry Jones has upside and talent.

Fab Melo is garbage. He has no basketball IQ whatsoever. He doesn't rebound. He has zero offensive game. He's not strong. He doesn't run well. He's tall and blocked shots in the middle of a zone. With a guy like Festus Ezeli on the board, if you're after a 7 footer, you dont take Fab Melo.

It just feels like they wanted to make one last big push with these picks, and it's not there. They had two prime spots in a deep draft to get solid pieces for the future, and punted them.

Thought OKC should have taken Teague at 27 as a capable, NBA ready backup who can defend and attack the rim, but PJ3 there is hard to pass up. Teague going to Chi town to fill in for Rose while hurt and learn from him when healthy is great. Two Cal PGs on the same team. Should be a good fit.

Perry Jones III is the replacement at power forward for Serge IbaKa if the Thunder can't resign IbaKa at a discount price.

If they were going to draft a replacement, they should have traded Harden for Beal and future picks. Beal + Ibaka > Harden + PJ3

"power" and "Perry Jones III"

What are words that will never belong in the same sentence?

Jones is a nothing as a pro. Soft as they come, mentally and physically.

I dunno...Chris Bosh has had a nice career being about the softest dude on the planet. Frame wise....he reminds me of him.......now im not saying hes chris bosh.....but he certainly has the skill set to develop into that kind of player.

Could be, though when I've watched Jones he appears way too willing to try and initiate his offense 25 ft from the hoop. Haven't seen any evidence of a turn around shot, or enough ability with the ball to get to his spot. Not a good rebounder for his size and length.

The guy just seems a bit lost on the basketball court way too often; sporadic scoring outbursts, but no consistency to his approach. A guy with his athletic ability shouldn't disappear for long stretches vs college competition. To me, that doesn't bode well for his future.

As always, time will tell.
