Musings on the election

Recommended Posts

Romney was a phony. We can debate the rest --his business record, his tenure as governor, etc.-- but you can't honestly say the man was genuine. Shifting positions and so forth is, unfortunately, quite common in politics, but Willard Mitt Romney really took the cake.

compared to O Blah Blah ????

Not a chance Nancy

Romney may be a bit of a nerd, and wear funny undies, but the man is beyond decent unlike the hoodlum that occupies the white house.

Maybe he is. Unfortunately, once he realized he had to cater to the extremists and nut jobs currently controlling the GOP in order to get the nomination, we never got to see who he actually was.

Romney goes through more personality/belief makeovers than heels turned babyface turned heals in pro-wrestiling. Romney would have a revelation and begin to gladly sing the glorious benefits of Marxism-Leninism if the polls showed it would help promote his poitical ambition.

And you guys all know this. It's the reason why during the primaries there wasn't a soul in this forarm than wanted Romney.

Americans are so enamored of equality that they would rather be equal in slavery than unequal in freedom.

The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.

+

When the people find they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.

I know. We read him extensively in college (pol. Sci major.)

Tocqueville is good. I'm more a Machiavelli fan myself.

Of course. That is why he is probably the easiest political scientist to apply to the real world.

Even if you have scruples and choose NOT to follow maxims like "It is better to be feared than loved" you will eventually work for someone who does follow them.

Machiavelli invented realpolitik. Meaning political philosophy based on reality, not ideals.

I was raised to assume that everyone around you was always trying to fock you over. Most of the time, that is true. Machiavelli, like Sun Zu, Nitsche, or Clauswitz, should be required reading for everyone... even if you are not amoral (as distinct from immoral) people around you are. You damn well better understand how the fockers think so you can protect your cornhole.
