The Big 12, err, 13....14

Recommended Posts

If you include what is known as the Chicagoland area, you're looking at about 10 million people. DC Baltimore is about 8

We can go back and forth as to the size of the metroplexes. The rest of my post was to the significance of the school within. Another factor is wealth within, which ridiculously favors DC/Balt. This is why the Big10 was high on MD. You guys act like MD pursued the Big10. In the end the result was symbiosis.

The Big Ten is the number 1 conference in football revenue by a large amount. They didn't NEED MD, they just WANTED more money. Chicago is the reason they were number 1. It is a Big Ten melting pot.

I'm just kind of perplexed why you think DC is larger than it is. Chicago is the third biggest city, metro area, tv market, no matter what way you slice it and the bars are packed with big ten fans from all over the midwest on Saturdays. I have only lived here a short time but I already see difference between cities like New York and Boston (which are pure pro sports town) and Chicago (which is both a pro sports town and a college football town). The DC metroplex that you talk about includes WV and VA. You are telling me that MD football is bigger than Va Tech and West Virginia throughout the metroplex?

Maryland moved for the money, have no doubt. But apparently, also for reasons that include not hosting any important games around DC for ACC tournaments. There might be other reasons.

I understand why they did this, but I FOCKING HATE IT. I have no issue with them not being a national contender in football, to do so means you have to sacrifice your soul. Adding themselves into the cesspool that is the Big 10 is something I oppose completely. This sucks, plain and simple.

Sure, the ACC will not likely have any meaningful contenders on the football field, so what..... placing themselves among programs with a lack of ethical fiver or academic integrity is not what we alumni have been seeking and hoping for.

bullsh!t on this, plain and simple....

All Big 10 schools are in the AAU except Nebraska and that's only because our med school is in Omaha.

If it makes you feel better, I don't want Maryland, either.

Sounds like we may want Georgia Tech, too.

It does not make me feel any better to be unwanted by something contemptible. Whoring themselves out to what is little better than organized crime, is something that I would have never thought my school would do, it makes me sick.

You misread that one, the Big 10 wants to get access to the DC media market, Maryland is one way to get that, and they immediately improve their basketball prowess. Rutgers is getting them some access to the NJ/NY medial market, and likely a huge boost to overall conference graduation rates, maybe even doubling it (sarcasm)
